That's the idea but this version is not interplanetary ready. The TeslaBots that go on other planet will need a kind of suit to protect them because the dust from the Moon and Mars can get inside their gears and actuators and other important pieces and mess things up and would need radiation protection for their computer brains.

@thundavolt
@thundavolt 8 ай бұрын
He didn't try. He pointed out some serious issues and all I saw in this video was something that was achieved by Honda over 20 years ago. I also think humanoid robots are not the smartest design. It's much better to have purpose built robots. There are too many issues to consider when trying to replicate a person. We are not the optimal design for so many tasks. This is just an exhibition piece. It looks cool but that's about it.
@magua73

@@thundavolt With all due respect, I have seen videos criticizing in a constructive way the first prototype from Tesla, and ThunderF00t wasn't one of them, he never acknowledge that it was a prototype and he constantly comparing it the Boston Dynamics bot, which is like comparing apples and pears. And humanoid robots has definitely its niche, for obvious reasons.
@billybobmonroe3166
@billybobmonroe3166 8 ай бұрын
@@thundavolt The thunderfoot video was complete BS. Just like the fanboy crowd gets things wrong from bias, so does the "hate everything Elon does ever" crowd. Designing task specific robots is much easier from an engineering and software perspective, but the creation of an all in one tool in a humanoid form factor is a multi trillion dollar market. The human form built and designed the world we live in so having a humanoid robot that could perform many of the repetitive tasks we pay minimum wage to get done 24 hours a day consistently would be a revolution in the labor markets. Optimus is also being designed to be manufactured rapidly and cheap. Neither Boston dynamics, or Honda have created a cost effective robot that could be easily manufactured in the millions. Not to mention the state of the art vision based self training neural net that is being designed to break down tasks in real time.

Using Tesla's Visual AI, and manufacturing a pair of gloves that record the haptic sensors on your hands, and a pair of glasses that record perspective you could literally act out actions and it could mimic them eventually. These things are gonna replace us all for remedial labor. Its gonna cook for me, clean for me, with a language model it can be a tutor, a friend. Tesla is the perfect company to make something like this for so many reasons and its so exciting to see how fast they are progressing. Atlas was for the military, Optimus is for the people.

It may not be doing back flips but in every other way it seems way ahead, it has fully functional hands with tactile feedback and is able to manipulate fragile objects placed randomly around it without prompts like QR codes being attached. Also the manufacturing costs are orders of magnitude different. Optimus is designed for mass production costing tens of thousands where as Boston Dynamics robots are hundreds of thousands to millions.

The walking gait is a cause for concern. With dynamic balancing, and neural net optimised locomotion, we would expect far more elegant and naturalistic walking. It should be able to walk on uneven surfaces and recover from a push. This is walking like Asmio from 23 years ago.
@bjarnesegaard5701
@bjarnesegaard5701 8 ай бұрын
Wrong - this movement in all its joints are far more realistic and natural. The walk still is improving. Asimo would use half a day to cross a normal stage. The degrees of freedom for the arms and fingers and now the neck has 2 DoF. Amazing. Tesla is far ahead in robotics with a brain, as they already have million of robot on wheels. :)
@glynwilliams4204
@glynwilliams4204 8 ай бұрын
@@bjarnesegaard5701 Can it jog? Hop? Be pushed and regain balance? The gait being shown here is a characteristic of statically balanced locomotion where it is having to transfer its centre of mass above a placed foot before being able to lift the other. Effective bipedal locomotion is about constantly falling and then catching that fall by placing a foot to compensate. Tesla putting so much effort into aesthetics rather than fundamental engineering is a tell.

Valid concern and questions. Though I wouldn’t be surprised if all of this is demonstrated in the gen 3 bot. @@aleksvarfalomei I don't understand. You're saying they are building robots to reduce the population? The point of these robots is to be a general to do most labor and some social takes as a human. It can be both good and bad and I'm not concerned about the ones who wish to control all in the future sense they are falling apart slowly though. Robot will like take over most simple takes like working in the kitchen of a McDonald's or putting body making panels on a car In a factory, because robots can work for extended periods of time without complaining or feelings pain means most things will be a lot cheaper to produce because you pretty much have infinite labor without useing humans for most of it. on the bad side most basic jobs will taken by robots and that means that young people can't get a job as easy and will likely have to seek out more professional or creative jobs or they can buy their robots and computers to do work for others to earn money. Eventually robots will become sooo capable and advanced that the economy will likely need to be redesigned because labor is no longer a problem. I don't think Skynet is coming anytime soon ether. The education system will also have to improve a lot as people must seek out more creative jobs and when the new children see the robots, a lot of them will be interested in how it works and will want to study engineering and programming.

10 years hahaha Such a stupid statement 😂, Boston uses theirs as only a testing platform whereas tesla is making one to sell commercially, completely different end goals, not to mention it took Boston over a decade to get where they are yet optimus has got this good in 2 years, you just a hater.
