Elon sees ads as a dated way of making people aware of your product and he's right. We live in the information age where if someone needs or wants something they look it up on the internet for reviews so the best way to advertise is to make a superior product and let the customers do the talking.

Engineering driven design, as redundant as it may seem, is what you have here. Other auto companies like Volvo have some data, but what you are seeing here is the result of a great ecosystem that Tesla is for engineering. You have the focus on safety, product quality and talent engineers that Tesla culture has. The focus on creating the best product for the least amount of money. Even if you don't want to have autopilot your Tesla still have all the sensors needed for that, driving down cost. I can give you much more examples of great design decisions, but it all comes down to the mindset embedded on Tesla culture. You may have enough data to do this on other automakers, but the inovation culture and safety mindset inside Tesla is not present there. Give all that data to the "Tesla killers" and wait for this kind of application that you see here...

@mydutube
@mydutube 2 жыл бұрын
@@em0_tion I like Right To Repair as an ideal but it's a nuanced subject. Who is going to be liable if an amateur repairman introduces fire or safety issues in the car during repair? Certainly the OEM should not be liable for that. Same goes for software - if a hacker screws up or introduces software defect in a critical competent the OEM should not be held liable for damage or warranty or future OTA fixes. Even if the repairman or DIY person is ready to take up the liability, the company still suffers bad publicity in news media if something bad happens because of the faulty repair or software tweak. Is the repairman gonna pay for the damage to the brand caused by an incident? I feel bad for the mechanics and repair enthusiast but the reality of the time is that cars are getting more complicated, and the sophistication required for post-repair testing and validation can't be democratized without added costs, which most repairmen can't afford, let alone the ownership of liability.
@em0_tion
@em0_tion 2 жыл бұрын
@@mydutube It's not a right we're just getting introduced to, it's a right we had and lost because of corporate greed under the *pretext* of personal safety and our silence. Speaking of liability, how is Tesla allowed to falsely market and sell a *beta* option for $10K as a "full" feature, yet when idiots crash into a tree while drinking in the car with autopilot on, we're all fine and dandy with those news? It's tech made by humans for humans, and not sharing knowledge that affects safety is only hurting us from poorly made fixes, not preventing them.

In the meantime old legacy automakers do just enough to get the safety rating for a particular category of vehicle. Sad thing is a high number of people will never really why they survived an un-survivable crash and put it down to luck. @@DoughnutsInspace And you do know Volvo invented the 3 point safety belt, there was no regulation in place at that time but innovated in order to save lives. Companies started developing airbags since the 70s in use in cars for safety, only became mandated in the 98, all Fords has a driver air bag basically in 1990. Automakers have been thriving to make cars safer for decades... Look at Volvo! Been doing crash tests and the head of automotive safety since forever. Regulations got better because customers and the industry needed and demanded it and all the automakers have innovated and evolved since. All the legacy auto companies have developed basically all the safety tech we see today... You talk like automakers do just enough to meet government regulations but yet pass them and beat more stringent iihs and eurocap regulations. Stop acting like Tesla is doing something special here by building a safe car. The only thing their doing is able to tweak parameters OTA... The computer then takes all this information and “dynamically updates” how it would deploy the airbags in an accident. And it does this all in real-time, and in fractions of a second." @DoughnutsInspace
@DoughnutsInspace 2 жыл бұрын
@@FusionBoost2.0 Yeah they might monitor, but do they look at crash data from the cars to get a better understanding of real world crashes compared to whats required by lab testing? By doing that you can tweak passive and active safety systems on a regular basis and push out updates to keep the car safer. No other company can do this that I am aware of, also other companies that claim they can do OAU's are stretching the truth as any update that's major needs to go to a service centre for it to be done, a Tesla doesn't. Tesla can do a OAU on any system and do so on a regular basis. Take the Jaguar I Pace, that's meant to have OAU updates and only rolled out 3 in the last 3yrs. Even VW with their ID rage are still having software issues and treated Teslas as a joke just a meeting because they now know how far behind Tesla they are and are currently panicking. Also the VW Passat built in China has one of the worst safety test ratings due to the lax safety laws. Oh and because some African countries don't have high safety regulations or emission controls you will find VW send out polluting unsafe cars there and then there's the emission cheating and conspiracy to try and low emission standards by the big German auto companies have been caught out doing. Even the American auto companies are trying to lower emission regulations. So sorry no I will not give them any slack in any regards as they don't deserve any or respect.

Just showing that Tesla's key element is safety above all else and the data gathered will help get these simulations so exact it predict crashes before they happen or try to minimise the injuries of a crash if it was to happen. Data is key, with neural nets, cameras and over the air updates will make the Tesla's just get so much better and safer over time. Tesla will eliminate people manually driving their car and once we get to that stage any other car manufacturer either gets a licence to Tesla FSD or risk going under

@@mikeberg22se Alumni of Volvo Safety Center maybe? I would also add the videos premise presentation is little bit disingenuous _previously the best way to design a safe car was for industry standard crash testing_ ... Ahemmm... No it wasn't. Places like Volvo Safety Center have existed long time as there has been internal crash facilities pretty much at every big car maker with the money to run such facility and the money to run preproduction models through internal crashes of various scenarios. Throwing cars on their roofs, colliding two moving cars in various scenarios, even driving cars down cliffs as I seem to have some development team done to test _car drives into the ditch at the side of the road_ scenario. The standard tests have always been about _outside validation_ , _comparison_ and _outside feedback_ . Not about actual design and development. Company does it's own way more extensive design and testing most likely involving lot of scenarios it can think of and lot of modeling (now in time of powerfull computers, when it is possible). Then when all that is done and car ready, it gets send to standard testing to have outside validation and also *comparable* standard data to compare against competition. Also everytime people start acing the tests... they turn the knob little more by adding some new test. The standard tests are not meant to catch every possible scenario. Those are meant to be comprehensive enough set to establish decent overall safety _comparison_ benchmark.

I’m curious as to how the floor surface plays a part in this test. The Model Y can easily slide on the smooth concrete, thereby reducing damage taken as the vehicle moves easily. On an asphalt/road concrete surface, the increased friction would doubtless play a huge part in how the collision impact is absorbed.

@steveseeger 2 жыл бұрын
@@John_Doe742 Intuitively, yes but once you overcome the coefficient of friction between tires and surface the resistance is constant. In this case at the speeds in question you could have it on ice and it would give similar results in terms of damage and forces to the car. If it was on a rubber surface the car rotation would be shorter once you pass by the coefficient of friction. It's the scale of the forces involved. If you are talking about a light weight go kart then your observation would have more impact on results.
