Cannot believe the progress TESLA has made on FSD in the past 6 months. FSD is arguably the greatest technical accomplishment of our lifetime. I thought AI was just a glorified encyclopedia -- now I see what is really possible with AI -- Elon is showing is the future.

"arguably" huh? mRNA vaccines GPTs and DALL-E Quantum Computing EVs themselves 5G, The internet, Cloud computing. Genome Editing/CRISPR Blockchain Heck, even reusable rockets from SpaceX are more impressive than some cameras using neural networks and moving a wheel. Also all the above had actual impact on lives. Self driving cars are, let's be honest here, a piece of toy that rich people show off on KZbin but never use in real life.

Excellent! Good Day for the Advent of a near perfect FSD. :) Notes: Great lane discipline at 5:31. (Throughout the run, in fact). Hesitancy at 13:12 perhaps but always better safe than sorry in a busy car park! [Possible, triggered by human 'unusual' activity the other side of the road, as per another recent test]... Out of the park overall! BRAVO TEAM!!!

Did you watch the same video we just did? It's incredibly patient when needed. Drastically improved in the last few months alone. Impressive, I remember test driving the first version of of Autopilot in a very early Model 3 on I205 in Portland, when at about 70mph it suddenly made a suicide dive for a concrete exit divider and other cars had to take evasive action to avoid being run off the road as I veered into the exit lane to avoid crashing into the barrier. That and other dangerous wild things it did on that short test drive turned me away from Tesla's, until now.
@Btt82 ай бұрын
Can you provide a link with the data for this?
@jackoneil39332 ай бұрын
@@Btt8 Sure, I Don't think Google links are allowed, but I'm pretty sure it was Exit, 23B, I-205 Northbound Portland Oregon 45.55504864 N 122.56672125 W It lunged from the right lane about 150 to 200ft before and made a bee-line for the barrier. Looking at the exit on Google Earth, at the street view level, It may have mistook the Concrete apron between the freeway and exit as lane. Now that I see the exit again I vaguely seem to recall it disconnecting when aimed at the divider but that may have been from me hitting the brake and grabbing the wheel. I also seem to recall the concrete divider had some larger concrete blocks, but many of those I recall appear to have been removed at other exits

As a 52 year old, I‘m amazed at the high number of comments about „abuse“ or „dad yapping“. Must be all GenZ people, because to me, neither is dad yapping (he‘s a bit nervous maybe, because he knows it’s recorded) nor is the driver abusive or snappy. Pretty normal family conversation between the generations here. 🤷🏻♂️

The game changer for FSD and all drivers would be smart traffic lights that communicated with the fleet and GPS services.
@Station2Station-du2gh2 ай бұрын
My biggest problem with FSD is that I have to take over constantly because of the group-established speed of traffic (often being much greater than the sign-indicated 40mph, and I hold drivers up as they pass me and give me the stare - EVEN when I have the setting for overage maxed out. So unless this update improves upon this, I can't see myself keeping my Highland FSD subscription. It's novelty until it will flow with traffic patterns in Denver at reasonable pace, which it won't do as of today. One other problem is that I live in a neighborhood community with about ~150 homes and whenever it drives me home and enters my neighborhood, it drives with the right tires in the rain gutter all through my community. Will try again with 13.2. But I won't throw it completely under the bus: There is a pothole on a road I often travel (which is basically an over-recessed manhole cover which is 2-3" deep and jarring) in the road where you wheel would hit if you drove normally. It must be crowd learning because the FSD system gently veers about 2 feet right inside the lane and misses it every time. It must be pattern learning from other Tesla drivers that have taken the route thousands of times. Fascinating! Thanks for the video.

Ah!!! I see FSD actually backs up now. That is cool. With the little driving I do around my town and being Retired, I still do not need FSD for my driving needs. I will save my money for other things for now. For me to get FSD, If I should become somewhat disabled to drive myself adequately, or they give us FSD for free for everyone, I do not need this feature. Yes, I did try the 30 day free FSD trial period, it was interesting to use, but there were things I did not like when car was driving itself. Thanks for the video.
@nickmcconnell12912 ай бұрын
Would be interesting to see if FSD would just keep at speed and follow cars in front and behind over a cliff? Maybe Tesla should test that and simulate that situation in a simulator if they haven't thought of that. I mean you do live in CA and the big quake could hit one day while you are driving. Don't want your car driving off a collapsed overpass.

I agree that speed sign recognition needs more work especially in Oregon where we have somewhat frustratingly unique signs like "End 45 mph"...... which means go to the state default speed for the road type. To make matters more difficult for the AI, much or most of Oregon roads are rural with little traffic. In other words no other cars in front or behind to gauge speed off of. I don't yet have v13 but up till now FSD (HW4) has gone super slow on roads even when marked at 55 mph. I understand that Tesla's first priority, from a stockholder point of view, is to optimize FSD for inner city robocabs. However if they actually want FSD to be a generalized solution it will also have to get better at rural, twisty roads and differing states' one-off signage.

3:21 That broken speed recognition is baffling to me. I experience the same here in Germany where it clearly detects the correct sign and shows it in the visualisation but does not update the "detected speed limit". Any ideas why that is the case? Is it still that Mobileye Patent that it isn't allowed to purely use camera recognition to detect speed limits and so it uses primarily map data. In this case it might be the immediate second 25 sign but i often see that with no other sign around.
