Tesla Light Show World Record - Finland

For anyone wondering, these cars are not communicating with each other for this event. On the center display in each vehicle, the owner scheduled a time for the light show to begin. Because all of the vehicles were scheduled to start the show at the same time we have this event. If you are wondering where the audio is coming from, it is coming from the external speaker, which is located under the hood of the vehicle. This speaker is used for light shows, customization of the horn sound, and to admit a soft hum at low speeds to alert pedestrians and cyclist of a silent vehicle (required by law in some jurisdictions)

They are triggered by rapid changes in contrast, not brightness. 2:50 is more likely to be a cause, but even then this video isn't that flashy. Also, you wouldn't need to warn people of this... it's literally a light show, meaning there will be flashing lights.

I still think Teslas are boring cars, and I'm on my second Model S. 😄 It's just that after my first EV 5 years ago, I never wanted an ice-car for my daily driver again. And as for EVs, Tesla just still has the lead in ease of use... All my toys are gas/petrol or diesel. Nothing beats the rumble of old V8 when cruising through the countryside with the top down.

I am curious how all the Teslas were all in sync cuz usually you tap the screen and then get out of the car and it would be pretty hard to sync them all unless there's some other way that I don't know about. Could you explain more in detail how this worked?

You can time the start of the light show. And as all cars sync their clocks to GPS anyways, they will be in sync when you set the same start time to all cars. At this event we had a tiny local FM-station to broadcast info to the drivers to set their light show start time. Naturally all had been given the programs on USB-sticks to upload to their cars too.

The cars play the music from the car stereo speakers, loud. That's why the windows are down. - For the video though, I did overlay the music onto the video's soundtrack. You can hear the original soundtrack on the background though.

Unfortunately I don't think you can. It was specially made for this event and the licence (for the music) doesn't include distribution. Also this is actually not one whow, but there were over 60 slight variations of the show (depending on the car's position on the lot.)

Yes, it was a great show! Actually there were 66 (slightly) different programs playing in sync!!! Each row has it's own and each row has three different variations of that. Really amazing work! They are all synced by show start time. As all cars sync their clocks to GPS, they start the show at the same time. The cars also play the music, all together from their car speakers, in sync. Absolutely unreal to see them all do it live...

@giezioba7214 in a Tesla light show the music is played from the cars' speakers. That's why the cars roll the windows down at the beginning of the show and up again in the end. No external sound systems are used. For this video, I added the soundtrack on top of the video's own for the music to play better. You can still hear the original on the background.

I know the comment is a joke, but unfortunately there are folks out there that don’t understand physics, nor basic maths: If the car would take about 1000 W of power playing the show. (Pretty good stereo setup.) That would equal about 2 % battery used, in a 1 hour show, for the smallest battery Tesla. This show lasted about 4,5 min, which equals about 0,17 % battery used…

You choose the time you want to start in each car and the car chooses at that time. Each car’s time is in synch automatically so this has the desired effect of people able to do multiple at a time.

Theres an option to set the start time in the Tesla, I'm sure they all set it for the same time

It not synced per se, you schedule the light show I’m the interface for a set time for example 9:00 and since all the cars are on the same time, they go off in sync

How do they sync all of the cars together perfectly?

I don't know exactly. But I would assume that the clock on each car is already synchronized to the world clock down to a small fraction of a second. If that is the case, then I would assume that it would be rather straightforward to make each car individually run a light program at a very specific time. They would not necessarily have to be networked together. They could each do it independently at precisely the same time.
