I just ordered a dual motor on Saturday after a 50 minute test drive. Found my no compromised driving position pretty quickly which is a big deal for me as I'm 6'2 with somewhat large feet. I drove a pre refresh and still thought it quiet, punchy and felt that using that big screen came pretty easily. I was impressed! My angst over buying a Model 3 has been going on for over a year because of quality issues and I'm pretty much sick of should I or shouldn't I line of thinking. Should be delivered before end of month. The best battery tech and charging network and the fact that everybody loves their 3. Those are the three outstanding reasons I purchased.

So to open the glovebox on a Tesla you touch the car icon to come out of satnav (1 Action) (annoying for the driver who is using the satnav) touch the glovebox button (2 actions) go back to the satnav (3 actions). Every car other than Tesla you pull the latch on the glovebox and it opens (1 action). To turn on the heated rear seat if you are a rear seat passenger you just grow yourself a nine foot long arm, then stretch to interface on the dashboard, touch the seat icon to come out of the satnav (again!) (1 action) select your seat to be heated (2 actions) go back to the satnav (3 actions). On the Polestar 2 you push the button in front of you (1 action). Seriously, to operate the lights or windscreen wipers manually you have to take your eyes off the road and look at the touch screen to see where you’re placing your fingers!? I never look at the switches on my car! I feel them. And each switch operates with one action. So how do you operate the horn? Do you have to come out of the satnav, select the horn button and return to the satnav again or is the horn operated by the rear seat passenger? Or do you have to ring up your wife at home to activate it? Was this car designed by Viz Comic? Please advise me. I clearly misunderstood.

Very true. Allegedly you can "use voice control" but from our own experience and what others (mostly) say on Tesla groups, it's not exactly effective. Only yesterday someone on a Tesla Model 3 group was talking about how often they end ups straying into a hard shoulder trying to adjust the windscreen wipers manually. The Model 3 is a brilliant car in lots of ways, but these are its flaws and you have very accurately described them.

@WhichEV4 жыл бұрын
If you like that mode of operation. If you talk to actual people - which we do a lot on social media - they don't want to operate everything by voice. This also forces all control through the driver. However, having to constantly jiggle the steering wheel rather than having sensors to detect your hands are in place on the steering wheel is an issue. Someone was recently arrested for sleeping with their seat reclined while using Autopilot. That should not be possible.
@Lesiba24 жыл бұрын
@@WhichEV I want to quote unquote what NCAP says here. "According to the NCAP, even though Tesla is a pioneer of self-driving technology, its “Autopilot” system does little to keep the driver engaged. Its distinct steering strategy gives the impression that either the car is driving itself or the driver has full control, and the system is more authoritarian than cooperative". The main reason Tesla invented this technology was for the specific reason to improve driving experience and reduce driver fatigue on the road. A system that alerts the driver to keep the hands on the wheel at all times and stops when the driver has ignored all the visual and audio warnings by the car's autopilot system disproves the notion that the system is not cooperative. If NCAP had made thorough research on the Tesla's autopilot, they would have made it a benchmark of automotive safety for all other manufacturers.

@@WhichEV took me a while to get used to it and I understand the concerns but it's the same with any revolutionary technology. Lots of people prefer push button mobiles as the battery lasts ages and easier to use. Not nearly as useful as smart phones and quickly date though. Look at old tesla interfaces and 5 years later they have new swanky ones with tons more features. I would rather an upgradable car interface that's always improving. I do agree that it can take some getting used to. That's where voice commands help a little. Evs themselves though are a whole new way of working. Also remember the long term aim is autonomy. That screen makes more sense when the car is doing most (hopefully all soon enough) of the heavy lifting when driving.
@WhichEV3 жыл бұрын
@@madonemt There are a few things you should just leave as separate buttons, like windscreen wiper speeds, lights, screen demisting, and aircon controls. Sure, put the fine tuning of climate control on the panel, but basic things like windscreen defog need to be accessible without thinking. Voice control is another thing some people really hate. Remember, Teslas are expensive, and (particularly in the UK, where they're even more expensive than the US), the main buyers ARE middle-aged or older because younger people can't afford them.
@madonemt3 жыл бұрын
@@WhichEV might agree to a point on the climate control but demisters are still just one button along the bottom. I'm an older millennial (just turned 40 this year) and no disrespect to older drivers intended but many just dismiss evs (and even smart phones) off hand as they can't seem to get around the adjustment. On the whole I think the one screen is a better option in the longer term as if something isn't quite right (I think the speedo should be slightly larger and perhaps coloured red if you go over the limit). It's how tech is now and will be expected more and more especially as millennials mature and have more money to spend in their 30s and 40s.

8:18 shamelessly stolen from Mercedes? This is a car from the USA, where this kind of ‘shift’ stalks are very common. I wonder where Merc came up with their idea then? Yes, I know Merc used this in the 70’s, but it ain’t exclusive. And the comments on the keycard and the cumbersome chair controls are laughable. Anyone who drives this car daily will have a smartphone connected. Which comes with the user profiles option. So you have to set all your options just once. Get with the program please. Or just go for the Polestar I guess.....
@WhichEV4 жыл бұрын
I own a Mercedes and the stalk for the auto box is EXACTLY the same as on the Model S and X. They are literally Mercedes parts: forums.tesla.com/discussion/46331/how-much-mercedes-is-in-a-tesla I also own a Tesla Model 3 and I don't use the smartphone option because it's much easier to clone the entry key with that.
@Dumdadum764 жыл бұрын
@@WhichEV you literally say in your video: “the right hand steering wheel stalk, a SYSTEM shamelessly stolen from Mercedes.” So not the actual part, which isn’t Mercedes anyway in this particular model, but the chosen system for engaging the drive modes or shifting as you will. And with regards of the use of the keycards; you really should’ve chosen the Polestar, which seems better suited for people who can’t decide between being an early adopter and the feel of their ICE.
@WhichEV4 жыл бұрын
@@Dumdadum76 The steering wheel stalk on the Model S and X are Mercedes parts. Tesla has then carried on the same system to the Model 3, which uses the same method but a Tesla part. Not sure why you're being so argumentative about this keycard business either. Are you in the US by any chance? In the UK, Teslas have a high insurance premium because they are very easily stolen, due to the ease with which their keyless entry can be cloned. Someone in a nearby street had his S stolen last year precisely in this way. Personally, I've chosen not to use the phone because it minimises the threat of this happening. Nothing to do with ICE. The VW ID.3 has a system to prevent cloning happening. In this area, they are ahead of Tesla.
@Dumdadum764 жыл бұрын
@@WhichEV the keycards work with NFC, which is easily clonable. Which is well documented. The keyfob for the model S can also be cloned just as easy. The app communicates via bluetooth, which can also be hacked in 2 minutes. So, all solutions are equally unsafe. This is bc of the Tesla implementation. Why didn’t you just choose a Polestar?
