For issue #1, bad smell due to condensation after AC usage, I think EV has more condensation problem than ICE car due to lack of engine heat . What I would do to avoid/minimize condensation issue is to turn off AC , roll down windows, and turn on fan speed to high (8 or 10) to dry up condensation at the end of my trip. This works very well for my 2019 Model 3, no AC smell at all so far.

Fix For ur 1st issue - turn ur ac fan blower up full (no need for the AC to be on) put all you windows down ... From the outside of the car where the windshield bottom is, spray some Lysol disinfectant spray into the AC air intake on both sides ... Do this for a while and let ur car windows be down ... It clears and kills all the mouldy smells in the vents ... Hope it helps

My issues over 20k miles were: - windshield wiper was making loud squeaky sounds. Was fixed on my driveway by the mobile person. - one side cam got fogged (once) on the inside. Fixed when I took it to service center to have my HW3 upgrade done. On the Autopilot/Self driving front, the most annoying ones are: - car still can't handle blinking yellow lights properly. After I confirm that it's Okay to pass through, it asks me again to confirm, probably because a blinking light turns itself off and then back on, then again... and again... Hope they fix this soon. - Navigate on Autopilot is generally great except for actually merging into the highway. I find it scary and I almost always do it manually. - Auto parking never worked for me. It needs major upgrading before it can be useful. - Same for summon. Other than that... still the best car there is. By far. Until the Cybertruck comes along, at which point the Mod 3 is likely to either go to one of our kids or be traded in.

My question to you is these repairs on them or on Tesla? Who pays?
@Astke4 жыл бұрын
Best car there is? For a group of people yes. The type of people that buy Tesla for three things: the Speed and the Screen and (if paid for) Full Self Driving. But somehow I just can't make myself like this brand too much, especially the Model 3 and Y just feel awfully bland to me. And while knowing that there are so many hardware faults in the car, ordering one would be like going through the jungle with shorts knowing that there is a high chance you'll get poisoned by something. I would feel remorse and dread at the same time.
@arthdenton4 жыл бұрын
@@Astke Actually, there aren't 'so many hardware faults in the car'. I could be wrong but I am unaware of any recalls for Model 3's. Add to that that they seem to be the safest cars around, according to stats. My Mod 3 is an early unit with VIN in the 50k range and the only issues I had are they ones listed above. I suspect that the more recent ones are even better. Mine is still 'as good as new'.

Nice to see honest criticism. This stuff will only serve to make Tesla better. I never understand why Tesla cultists hate on this type of content. How do they expect an agile company to improve without real feedback? To those that have been turned away from Tesla because of this video, I think that's unfortunate. The car will get fixed. Will it be annoying to get it fixed? Absolutely. Is the driving experience and lack of emissions worth some annoyance? I sure hope so. Ryan Shaw Tech did a video on the AC smell. He replaced his filter system with an aftermarket option. That and some frigi fresh should help. I have a used Audi A4 that has this problem. I hate it. The previous owner covered it up by wearing heavy cologne while I was buying the car. The dark tint causing the white trim to reflect feels self inflicted. Have you considered wrapping the white trim in matte black to at least double down on aftermarket solving the whole problem (which I believe started with the sun being too bright)?

My Chevy Volt gets the moldy smell from the AC. Running the fan with the AC off to dry the AC coils helps. My car has a feature to automatically do this but you have to talk the dealer into enabling but I have not got around to asking them yet. I heard they can charge or even refuse to do it.

I hear a lot of people complain about the service stations. They will make an appointment and the vehicle won’t be taken in for weeks or they won’t get their car back in a long amount of time. For me that would be a turn off and I would sell the car lol. My cars when they go into the shop I make an appointment and they get serviced same day and then returned within a reasonable amount of time. All depending on the issue. But I’m hearing for minor things it takes Tesla years to fix lol exaggerating of course, but for the customer it’s inconvenient and most jobs will tell you to take a hike if you aren’t able to show up. I want a Tesla but not 100 percent just yet. Still shopping around. Great content keep up the great work!

At home AC heat exchange coil has uV bulb to kill germ and mold which cause odor, likewise can add uV in car AC system if we know where and how to. Otherwise try the followings. Switch off only AC compressor 10min before destination, by setting temperature set to neutral and keep circulation fan at high with one window open and watch cabin begins to warm up, once warmed up continue so for anther 5 minutes or so. This will allow trapped moisture to vaporize from exchanger through window. Swap out the first driver for another one :).

The rear window Can't go down any further due to the door shape. You can replace the Cabin air filter yourself. Plenty of YT videos of how to do it. There is no fixing the water in the tail light, it just gets replaced and you hope it doesn't happen again or the new unit was manufactured with changes to prevent it happening again.

the air conditioning filter that hes referring to is the cabin air filter?
@WeHoGuestHouse4 жыл бұрын
I've had my Model 3 since September of 2018. I've had none of these problems. Cabin air has no smell. No condensation in the taillights. And the paint (blue) has been flawless. I have the black interior and it's held up very well and cleans easily. I haven't had the software problems, no ping-pong. It does, however, drive too close to the lane line while in Autosteer, particularly when the line is filled with marker bollards (like ones that stick up between HOV lanes and normal lanes). Same problem when I'm in a construction zone and there is k-rail right on the lane line. I take it off Autosteer when I'm in that kind of situation. The useless sun visor. It's not wide enough to block the morning sun. I have to wear a hat to fix that problem. It's annoying because I'm often driving east early in the morning and I have at least an hour of sun glaring in my eyes. Another complaint is the terrible rear visibility. The backup camera is great, but you rely too heavily on it with little ability for visual confirmation. I've compensated, but still annoying. I'd buy the car all over again, without hesitation. However, I might get the Model Y to get a bigger back seat, higher seating position and more cargo capacity.

EVlectric I should add that my car has a little over 27k miles. What else to complain about? I’d like a native SiriusXM app and not have to deal with streaming from my phone. I’ve had trouble with phantom braking on Autopilot. This phenomenon happened to a prior car with adaptive cruise, so it’s not unique to Tesla. There are times when the Autopilot speed resets itself after a curve on the highway. Rather than accelerating back to the set speed, it jumps way down to a new speed I didn’t set. I’d like the blind spot monitor to emit an audio tone, not just show the car on the screen in red. It would be nice to have a power open/close for the trunk. Model Y has it. Seat coolers would be a welcome option given I’m in LA and have a second home in Palm Springs. The cup holders could be better, but aftermarket inserts fixed the problem. I would like to see the Sentry Mode video on my phone. I’d pay a monthly subscription fee for that - like Nest or Ring.

You can try to calibrate the windows by simply holding the window switch down for 15-30 secs as the window goes down and the hold the button to close it for 15-30 secs and it should be ok. I would never buy a tesla because of these things: 1. They are only a steal in the US, in europe we pay way more for them. 2. They are constantly connected to the web/gps. (not safe, plus you can in theory get hacked when you drive in the future) 3. I find it amazing not more people mentioning that, when you have a Tesla, you do not in fact own it after the circa 5 year warranty. What I mean by that is that, it is only allowed that you then pay Tesla to fix the car and only Tesla can provide the parts. This may sound sweet and innocent, but it means that you end of paying at least 2-5x more for repairing it. 4. It has so many moving/modern parts that you will have to go like 2-5x more to get small bugs fixed that do not get fixed with the update. 5. Tesla and the government can't track where you are and where you drove the car. (no privacy) 6. If the screen get's black or does not work, you do not have AC and you cannot see how fast you are going. 7. I do not trust the car card/key solution, it seems like something that easily can be hacked if you really researched it. 8. Teslas are also known for having really cheap interior that looks cool and it comfortable, but simply doesn't last like a normal car. Expect wear and tear of seat within like 1/3 of normal seats in normal cars. 9. Also what happens when the battery dies out after the warranty, most electric cars cost about 10.000 dollars to fix that, some even 30.000 dollars. I would not want to have to deal with that. So all in all, yes it is a fun/cool/practical car. But having an EV myself, I can tell you that, when you recharge at these fast rates, you have to expect the battery being killed 2-3 times faster. 150-250kw reharging rate is seriously going to kill a lot of batteries. I only recharge at 50kw with my car, and I can already feel after 2 years how it reduces my range. Also it has to be mentioned that, if you have any EV car and you fast charge it 1-3 times everyday, and you have a very hot climate, that battery is just toast within the first 5 years, absolutely guaranteed. And yes many do cover that. But also a really problem is that most manufactors only cover up to 100.000 miles battery guarantee, this is horribly low. My personal experience is that the tesla 3 is a good car for people in the city that recharge at home in the US, yes if you are in that category and like most people in the world do not care about your privacy and want all the newest functions, then fine the car is a good purchase. I just want to enlighten people and tell them that, what the tesla is doing with the tesla 3, is basically what has happened going from old to new laptops. We lease, we have cool features and we get rid of the car around year 5, which actually is pretty bad for the environment. So personally living in europe, I just use my nissan leaf car because I know from several owners that it will last for a much longer time.

Hopefully I won't or won't have to do this for every one of the 15 issues you're going to reveal, but, for #1: Often times when the air conditioner is smelling bad that is because the (user serviceable) cabin air filter needs to be replaced - it gets mold/mildew on it from being wet. This is a routine maintenance thing that needs to be done on all vehicles when the AC smells bad when the air conditioner is on. So, not a Tesla problem but rather a user education issue. More legit issues/nice-to-know tod bits... I understand the issue with the rear window not going down all the way. This is a function of physical space inside the door and it not being able to go down any further because of the shape of the bottom of the window glass relative to the shape of the door and specifically the wheel well intrusion near the back bottom of the door. This is pretty common in lots of cars. It would be interesting to learn how in some cars, I assume there are some cars that do not have this issue, deal with that. My guess is the part of the window that does not go down, toward the back of the back door, is much larger.
@bobrae54844 жыл бұрын
I’ve owned many cars over the years and maybe one had the stinky ac issue, so I don’t agree it’s a user or maintenance issue. It’s a design issue that was solved decades ago by almost every car manufacturer. Condensation is a fact of life in AC systems, it’s the product of dehumidification. It’s a question of how the car deals with the condensate. If it doesn’t drain it out completely it will stink
@jonathansage21474 жыл бұрын
@@bobrae5484 agree completely. The stinky ac problem is common for Model 3 owners. It's non-existent for Model S owners. It's a design flaw. They'll fix it, but what a terrible issue to have. This would piss me off and I own a Tesla Model X.

I was concerned about the roof, but really haven't had any problems with it. It blocks sun and heat surprisingly well, and is actually more resistance to damage than metal. Overall, I prefer the glass roof.

The glass roof is never going away. It's critical to their safety proposition. It disperses impact energy better than sheet metal.

15 issues, it sounds like American cars of the 1960’s. Consumer reports used to report this number of issues all the time. It didn’t change until Japanese cars came on the scene in the 70’s and 80’s. Tesla should step up and improve their cars.

Wow. I'm at 34,000 miles Model 3 SR+ purchased June 2019 and have NONE of these issues. Even the stock 19" Continentals are good, just checked tread depth and they are on border of green to yellow. Expect to get at least 40K out of them. My biggest complaint was position of seat belt no matter where adjusted rubbed on my neck. Fixed that by adding a seat belt tether. Tesla was awesome until it had 3 motors go out, the touch screen went out, the door handle came out and kept coming until it dropped to the floor, not to mention a buffer sound Tesla can’t figure out. Paint is horrible and doors don’t shut with the same solid sound and other cars at a quarter of the price, don’t bring down the window when going down the highway because there maybe an air gap sound when you roll them back up, but besides that…..
