I’ve got a red M3P with the white interior and you’re right, for the money and running costs nothing comes close. And the brutal acceleration never, ever gets boring. It’s borderline uncomfortable it’s that fast.

Got a 2019 M3P with ~50k on the clock for £25k in Sept. 2023 and very happy with it. It's blue, with upgraded wheels and black interior, all additional cost at time of original purchase. There are good deals to be had it seems. Very nice car.

Good video. I recently bought a 212 M3P which had extremely low mileage. If you ignore the noise from Musk, the crazy delivery process, the cars are very good and I've enjoyed the past 4 months of ownership. I think the problem is that once you are in the Tesla ecosystem, it could be hard to get out of, ie value of 6 year old Model 3's will be interesting in a few years.

I collected my M3P at the end of June this year and sold my 212 GTI Clubsport. Zero regrets. The Tesla is the best car I've owned for so many reasons! One massive plus is that in 8,500km I've spent €201 on electricity... Amazing car for the price! And if you ever get withdrawals from the lack of engine noise, take a trip to the states and hire a muscle car for the weekend!

On my 2nd M3P in many ways its improved noticeably in almost all areas since 2019 what a phenomenal car. Never managed to fill mine up there's so much storage space. My 2019 car cost £60,840 todays car in exactly the same spec is £66,890. Obviously the inventory cars that are now available or what Tesla now call Pre Configured cars were much more keenly priced and have skewed the pricing. Again obvious but I got an inventory car and Tesla let me transfer the software over so it was a lot cheaper they have stopped that now though. I expect maybe a price bump with Highland

Have a 222 LR. Alternates between effortless cruising and insane fun, as mood demands. A few basic niggles (auto wipers and headlight dipping could be sharper) but these are easy to live with. The big gripe is depreciation, as somebody who bought near peak prices, and it makes me wary of owning another Tesla.
@NobbyOnCars Жыл бұрын

@Bbronson Жыл бұрын
The way I see it is with their typical depreciation you’re better off buying a used model around 2-4 years old. You’re still get a very modern “brand new” car but maybe 20-50% less with tax incentives included.
@blower1 Жыл бұрын
Btw for those who don't know, like a lot of EV's but particularly on performance models like this Tesla, the acceleration and power you get is dependent on state of charge - on this generation of Model 3 Performance, there is a significant drop off in max acceleration below 50%...in fact the peak performance starts gradually dropping off below 90% on these LG batteries, and this is particularly more noticeable when accelerating at higher speeds (like planting your foot down when already doing 60mph+)
@GreenTorque Жыл бұрын
Wrong. This was the case a couple years ago but Tesla fixed this with a software update. Take at Bjorn Nylands KZbin video on the software update, I believe the update was released 2nd half of 2021. Acceleration times are consistent down to 10% battery.
@blower1 Жыл бұрын
@@GreenTorque That was with a panasonic battery, not the LG....plus his video showed a gradual drop off of acceleration below ~70% (which is the case with the Panasonic). The drop off starts at 90% with the LG. Bjorn's video was to do with a cold gate issue that was fixed in a software update, however even after the update there is a gradual drop off in acceleration as SOC lowers. The difference between the 2 batteries is the LG has a higher internal resistance - this causes voltage sag under high loads and this becomes more of an issue as the SOC drops as the output voltage drops with SOC on lithium battery technology. The acceleration drop off is noticed less at lower speeds (0-60, although it is still there, just not as big) as output voltage is less critical at lower motor RPM. However at higher RPM, i.e. higher speeds, it plays a greater part in the maximum motor power output and hence when the SOC is lower you really feel how much weaker it is when you put your foot down at a higher speed.
@NobbyOnCars Жыл бұрын
VW group 295bhp dual motor cars are similar - even battery temp plays a part.
@blower1 Жыл бұрын
@@NobbyOnCars Yes, battery temp is very important, especially on the performance models where the battery is very much the limiting factor to power rather than the motor(s). The worst case scenario of a low SOC and low battery temperature can cut effective output power by as much as half on some models.

Mark, it sounds like the autopilot settings are messed up. Not surprised with a press car but AP shouldn’t behave like that on a motorway. Especially with cars in adjoining lanes.

Maybe it’s my older car with USS that behaves better 😂😂 Very good review and you’re correct it’s not a car to compete with bmw i4 etc, it’s a mass produced cheap saloon with great tech and great performance. It reminds me of the old days when we bought a Civic Type R for its performance, and ignored the threw together car as a whole. The refresh will be a real test to see if build quality has got noticeably better.

@@TheBronx_911i find it a bit odd aswell. I drive a 23 long range M3 and rarely need to correct autopilot. Do you have the uberturbines Keith? How do you find them for comfort?
@TheBronx_911 Жыл бұрын
@@GreenTorque I have the original 20” Performance wheels. 2020 car. I prefer them to the Uber turbines to be honest, so much so that a new owner asked me to swap for his brand new 221 set. I said no. I don’t like the stretched tyre look on the Ubers and I feel that if you added 245 tyres instead of the 235 they would look better. Comfort wise they are the same. They are grand on normal day to day Dublin roads. I wouldn’t like to own one in a country lane or back roads that are not maintained but they are no worse that my previous cars. 21”, 20” on 530e, 19” on 535d etc Sports oriented suspension will make it harder than the average car but as Mark says in the review, that’s part and parcel of owner a sports/performance car. Would I change them? Not a chance!

Depreciation on earlier models? I sold PCs for donkey's years and had to explain that the next PC would be cheaper and faster - but if they want and have use of the PC now, buy it and use it. Separately: Performance model? Is there really a valid use on Irish roads? In fairness, the same applies to a Golf R.

It's a pity we can't buy T-Sportline 18 inch alloys wheels in Europe which fit over the performance brakes. They're only manufactured in the US and are nigh impossible to import due to customs duty. I think we need to get out of this mentality that we can't compare EVs with ICE cars like the M3P and the BMW M2. Yes the M2 makes a nice noise, you can get a manual transmission, and some tail happy fun out of it, but the M3P still beats it round a circuit and in a straight line with technology that far exceeds that in the M2. There are countless, well known motoring journalists and petrol head track dayers that have been torn between both cars on driving them back to back. If the cars fun to drive, it's fun to drive, the power source is irrelevant, it's about how the car makes you feel driving it and the way it drives. This whole "EVs are souless" BS is getting boring, they're both still cars and both offer fun on a level far above most generic cars in the market. Stop treating EVs like they're inferior to petrol cars just to get subscribes from ICE fanboys and learn to love both cars for their merits.
