With all these cameras, wouldn't it be awesome for Tesla to allow the end user to plug in a DVR system? So you don't have to install the aftermarket dash cam system. But there again, I don't know what type of cameras they are, are they on the normal spectrum that we like to see?
@TeslaInventory7 жыл бұрын
Based on the videos Tesla has released, they record just like a normal camera. Everything is processed through the AP system though. It would be wonderful if Tesla could incorporate this though.

Autopilot does not work AT ALL until the December update comes out. So if you have an AP 2.0 car you are twisting in the wind until then. In fact it doesn't even act like a rev 1 autopilot car. (information per my neighbor who just got his.)
@TeslaInventory7 жыл бұрын
Currently autopilot doesn't work. They are using the new AP 2.0 cars just like the original 1.0 cars and they are collecting data to help with the software development. However writing the new software will be MUCH faster and should be out soon to match the same abilities of the 1.0 cars.
@station2station5447 жыл бұрын
So are you saying the AP2 cars do have the capability of AP1 cars TODAY? Maybe my neighbor is high. (the pot store being next door to tesla as we discussed)
@TeslaInventory7 жыл бұрын
LoL. They don't have the same ability quite yet. Elon tweeted it should be out in December, but we are talking Elon time. I would think it would be out fairly soon though since the new cameras and computer specialize in learning and I'm sure they can use some of the code from the AP 1.0 software. I guess we will see how long until it's out!

DÆrik Yeah I know, that's what I'm talking about, there's a ton of cup holders, who's going to use them all.
@dlwatib7 жыл бұрын
It's not Elon that has the obsession, it's the customers. It's the one convenience feature that customers complain about first and most frequently if things aren't just exactly right. It's got to hold their cup no matter how big or small the drink, and be close at hand but not in the way, be strong enough to not flop around at all and ideally there has to be one for each passenger. The original Tesla Model S fell far short of expectations. There were cup holders only for front seat passengers, they were in the way in the center armrest, and they only securely held one size of cup.
@Bimmerx537 жыл бұрын
The smaller caliper is the parking brake/handbrake. Maybe tesla just uses the main brakes for parking brakes now. Often cars use the main brakes as parking brakes when the car is on, but once you turn the car off, it switches to the smaller caliper for parking.

It is hard to tell from the video. but it seems like your car has the 21 inch rims where as your friend has 19 inch which if I'm not mistaken in theory is easier to stop, I think that is the actual reason why he doesn't have the addition brake support and calipers.
@TeslaInventory7 жыл бұрын
Actually my car has 19" rims also (T-Sportline rims). However both our cars were ordered with the exact same tires/rims. I just switched mine right away. My understanding is Tesla changed the brakes for all their cars. Big brakes aren't really necessary due to the regen braking power.
@shenkers7 жыл бұрын
Oh, ok. It also could be that they had those extra brakes, because they weren't 100% confident about that regen braking power and reliability so they added them for some extra safety until they were sure that they weren't really needed even for the most extreme braking situations.
@nonconsensualopinion7 жыл бұрын
Dāvis Kalniņš the second caliper was for the parking brake. the new design has been reduced to a single piston caliper with a built in parking brake. supposedly their testing revealed the rear brakes were unnecessarily powerful and it added cost while not actually helping braking distance.
@shenkers7 жыл бұрын
Yeah that totally makes sense! Thanks for the clarification! In the excitement I usually have discussing everything Tesla :D I forgot the fact that rear axle actually doesn't need as much of braking power as the front axle. That being said - does the different center of mass in a Tesla makes the rear axle to have bigger impact on stopping the car in comparison to an ICE car?

+Eivind Hasle Amundsen that's what I thought, but I heard it was liquid cooled. Bummer.

The board is also modified; the inputs/outputs are placed differently than the default board from nVidia. Sensor inputs are on the left side towards the center of the car, and the CAN and ethernet are on the right towards the door - I guess this is a custom order. This is all according to the schematics and I could of course be wrong with the cooling, but it looks as if there's a slim box with two conventional fans on top. It could of course be that these are cooling a radiator for liquid cooling, but because of the size of it I doubt it.

Oh, wow... No anti-dazzle lever on the rear-view mirror??? On our current (13-year-old) fossil-wagon (and just about every other car I have driven in the past twenty or thirty years), there has been a little lever underneath the mirror which tilts it so that when a driver is behind at night and causing dazzle, I can flick the lever and change the way the mirror reflects (bouncing from the glass surface rather than the silvered backing). I use it frequently. This seems to be quite an oversight for such a high-spec car. Or.... are they using technological wizardry to perform the same function?
@TeslaInventory7 жыл бұрын
+Beith Air Ltd ya, everything is automatic dimming mirrors. Including the side mirrors!
@beithairltd23817 жыл бұрын
DÆrik - That's good to know. Thanks for the really rapid response. What causes the dimming? Is it just the fact that it is night-time or does it respond to potential dazzle situations?
@TeslaInventory7 жыл бұрын
+Beith Air Ltd I think just when it's dark outside, from the light sensor.
@beithairltd23817 жыл бұрын
DÆrik - Ah... :( Not the solution which for which I would have opted given that when it is dark we need MORE light to be able to resolve detail, not have our vision dimmed. With the regular anti-dazzle mechanism, once the offending car is no longer causing a problem, the mirror needs switching back to regular mode to be able to see properly again - Then, my car doesn't have a reversing camera (which on the Tesla seems pretty good). I guess that from your uncertainty, the actual attenuation is probably not that severe (which could be good for situations where there is no dazzle but possibly not so good in the very situation we'd wish to mitigate). If you're bored and find yourself in a position to be able to test this out, I would be interested to know what you discover. If/when I finally manage to reach the stage where I am driving an electric vehicle, I intend to make a VLOG channel in which I will recommend other related channels - your channel would certainly be on that list (as I've watched a fair few of your videos already and enjoyed them) - however, a little help on the correct pronunciation of your channel name wouldn't go amiss... Would it be accurate to say "D. A. Erik" ?
@beithairltd23817 жыл бұрын
DÆrik - One of the things which I did ask the nice man from Tesla a while ago (which surprised him because no-one else had ever asked) is, "What is to prevent someone from parking in my driveway after I have gone to work and using my charging point to steal power for their own car?" His reply was... "Urm... Nothing." - another unfortunate oversight, I think. I will be fitting a breaker inside the house to prevent this.

@TeslaInventory7 жыл бұрын
No need to even take it to their service center. Everything can be updated via an over the air update. All cars have cellular signal and can connect to a home WIFI too. Most updates (such as battery size; example: 60-75, adding auto pilot; if you already have the hardware on your car, etc.). Unfortunately, the cars built without auto pilot or with auto pilot 1.0 can not upgrade to a more recent auto pilot system. Retro-fitting the auto pilot sensors/cameras is more expensive than just buying a new car.

And this is the problem with Tesla. They are updating their technology too fast, like Apple does. I was about to purchase the powerwall 1 but now there is version 2. The Tesla salesperson tried to talk me into version 2, but I told her I will not be purchasing as they will probably release version 3 next year, which will be bigger/better etc. She said they won't be as this is the comment from just about everyone she rings. The same seems to be happening with the cars.
@woooweee7 жыл бұрын
Eh, all car makers do this to some extent, its just less noticeable. If you actually look at the factory repair manual, models do change from year to year, just in a more superficial manner. Tesla had to go from zero to 60, building cars against companies which had refined their processes for decades, if not a century, ford is 119 years old at this point. Not only did they manage to catch up, they went past their competition. So no such thing as too fast, the others have been too slow.
@DFWsCars7 жыл бұрын
even with Apple you get an entire year. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@TeslaInventory7 жыл бұрын
While they are developing the cars and adding continuously. I think it is necessary for them. Every quarter they need to have something new to continue to drive sales and improve upon what they have already built.. All small companies do this. If you want to buy a Tesla and go in with the attitude that you always have to have the best, you will either A) keep upgrading every year or B) never buy one. Same thing with any other kind of technology. All the above said; I don't think that any new Autopilot hardware updates will be out anytime soon. If anything it will be just a standard 100 kWh battery. But even then I'm not sure when that would come out.

@TeslaInventory7 жыл бұрын
Actually they have started releasing the update and the 2.0 car now has auto headlights. The issue, as I see it, was that Mobileye gave Tesla an ultimatum and Elon/Tesla said no. From what Mobileye was demanding, I don't blame them and I would have told Moblieye off if I was Elon. That pushed Tesla to expedite their own Autopilot hardware and install it on cars before the software was ready. But the fact that an over the air software update can add new features like auto high beams, adaptive cruise control, and even full self driving is simply amazing. No other car company can accomplish that. The updates are constantly rolling out and its only a matter of time until all 2.0 cars have the same capabilities or exceed the current capabilities of 1.0 cars.

You have a back dashcam? And where do you save the videos? to some cloud? cause it must use a lot of memory storage. PS: I love the restyling of the front. Much better than the black piece of plastic.
@TeslaInventory7 жыл бұрын
Yes. It is a Blackvue 650. Dual camera, one in front and one in rear. It has an SD card but can also upload to a cloud.

Would have been nice to see the auto pilot 2.0 as is in action. Nice video and coverage.
@TeslaInventory7 жыл бұрын
I have another video showing what the 2.0 car currently displays. Since the 2.0 software hasn't been pushed out yet, it is a little anticlimactic, but you can check it out and see what you think. Thanks!

Check Bjorn Nyland videos from Norway...
@TeslaInventory7 жыл бұрын
The car is excellent in the snow! Its AWD so no issues with that. If the battery is cold, it takes a little time to warm up to have full regen or to charge the battery. But over all it isn't bad.

i believe you will have the answer to this my question that i seem not to find an answer to, AP1! am aware that Mobile-eye designed AP1 and now they are no more with Tesla but, who now supports AP1? and AP1 is still in Beta state that brings me to the last question, since its in beta state is there any hope of having some what improvement of AP1 like going off a ramp without disengaging autopilot? PLEASE DON'T IGNORE THIS MESSAGE THANKS.

Tesla should make a rear view camera that pulls up into the car when in drive so it doesn’t get dirty while driving

Great video. Do you know if they fixed the seal on the doors? It seems like every video I've seen of an S it has an uneven door seal on the B pillar. Just curious.
@TeslaInventory7 жыл бұрын
I don't recall seeing any issue with this one and haven't had an issue with mine. So I think that they have fixed any seal issues.

MowizosCrib it's a dash cam :P the "360" part is due to it having 2 channels (a camera facing forward and one facing backwards)

Just like the others have said, it is a Blackvue camera model #DR650S-2CH. They are GREAT cameras and provide a peace of mind since they will record 24/7, can upload to the cloud, motion & movement activation, etc.

Great video! I'm guessing the 'b' pillar cameras in the Model X must be located in the door.
@TeslaInventory7 жыл бұрын
Actually they are located in the very thin piece of door trim on the body of the car, not the door. If I can find a Model X I will take a video.

Arghh ...David didn't get the Glass Roof canopy. I ordered that sight unseen - car should be here in Jan. Dying to see more videos of it. Ive seen a few in the forums. And I'm seriously annoyed by the fact that the lock button is no longer on the screen. I use that lock button 3-4x a week when I'm circling the block in cherry creek and picking someone up. Another change in the 2.0 cars, if you get "premium package" you get the Model X seats in the Model S. They're perforated seats with adjustable headrest. I drove a Model S at Park Meadows that has the new upgraded seat and they are definitely noticeable relative to our 2015 Model S which has the original "Next Gen" seats.
@TeslaInventory7 жыл бұрын
Ya, he want'ed his to open. As soon as Denver gets a full glass roof I will be sure to film it. So far my contacts say none have come through... Hopefully soon. Congrats on the car! I am replacing my refresh 1.0 car with a 2.0 with March delivery. Can't wait! Are you getting the new perforated seats also? BTW, the lock is now back on the screen. Its place was only being used for headlights temporarily until they became automatic. But with the update the just came out, they are now. Check out my new video!
@station2station5447 жыл бұрын
Oh good news on the lock! I'll check your vid. Yeah I loaded up a 90D with glass roof, pearl/obeche matte, Premium (with perf/moveable headrest seats), SubZero/Audio/Suspension.

+Station 2Station sounds like we'll have twins! I got carbon fiber in mine though. Mine will be just like my current one but with the new seats and AP 2.0.
@station2station5447 жыл бұрын
I mentioned earlier today that the new perforated premium next gen seats have the structure and moveable headrest like the ones from the Model X. I sat in the Pearl Model S P100D they have over at Park Meadows in the underground parking on Friday. It had these fancy seats. I'm HOPING that the headrest being moveable isn't a P-car thing, and that I (we) get those simply by the fact that we ordered premium. Did you get glass or sunroof?
@TeslaInventory7 жыл бұрын
Yes, The Tesla design studio for the Model S shows that they have the moving headrests! So we should both get that. I go the sunroof. I just like to open it and get some fresh air on mountain drives. What color seats did you order? I went white. I wish grey was still offered though.

I order my MS last July with grey interior. Since it was backorder (grey) and couldn't have mine before april 2017 I change my order for a tan interior in october. So I have all the hardware of AP2.0 but I decided not to activated them so far. Can you please tell me if I have all the same thing as the old AP1.0? I do take AP1.0 as an option.
