Thank you for this. Great find. I suspect that the film is caused by treating the dash with a vinyl protectant. This is a typical issue that causes a film to build up on the inside of car windshields. Thanks again!

@mitchlewis535 Your welcome! Yup, I have also read it's likely from the off gasing of the interior materials over time. Wish they had a better way to seal that area around the cameras.

Thanks for making this video… I plan to clean mine soon. My Model 3 is only 7 months old and the front camera is noticeably hazy. I suspect the off-gassing of the interior materials is worse when the car is new and should level off over time. Question: why not clean the camera lenses themselves (using an appropriate lens cleaner & cloth) while you have access to them? I’m guess they have some of the the same film/haze on them that is on the windshield.

Tesla could have made this process so much easier by having a separate plastic cover that pops down to access the glass in front of the cameras. I noticed my '24 Model Y (Purchased in Mar '24) already has fog on the glass in front of the front-facing camera.

Yes, for something so critical to the proper functioning of FSD, should be much easier.

Maybe they did not expect this to be a issue ? Who knows

Same, I bought my car like 6 months ago and started seeing the fog recently. Probably due to the cold. Still a bit painful to clean though.

I have a Nov, 2023 MYLR built in Texas. Unfortunately it did not have the T20 Torx Screw. It was a twist off version. I guess the ones built in California are T20 Torx screw? It takes a lot of hand strength to twist 1/4 turn and pop it out. I had to get help. You cannot grab the rear view mirror itself without breaking it off, you must turn the stalk that attaches it to windshield. Turn the Passenger Side of the Rear View Mirror toward the Driver Side Headrest, or the Driver side of the Rear View Mirror toward the windshield, to remove the mirror. Again, you are actually grasping the stalk and rotating it in the direction that would turn the mirror, not grabbing the mirror itself. Also, if you are unsure which version you have, the Perplexity Search Engine told me that my year and model of Tesla was the twist off version.

Interesting, my 2023 Y was a March Fremont build. So the 2023's must have 2 different versions. Thanks for sharing that information!

Does anyone know if Rainx Fog reducer would help prevent this from happening?
@TeslaMatt65013 күн бұрын
Would like to know as well. Only thing I would be afraid of is if it would leave a residue that over time became visible.

Interesting, I did not know that was an issue.

Yeah it doesn't show up right away. For me it took about a year and a half to need cleaning.

@@TeslaMatt650 I looked at my 3 yo Model S front cameras yesterday and the glass looked perfectly clean to me.
