The nav does take into account the elevation change when calculating the amount of charge remaining. If you look at the energy/trip tab you can see segments where it expects to regain some range due to regen going downhill (it’s not just a straight line slope). It’ll also show you how much you’ve deviated from the expected energy output over your trip.

When you are doing these longer road trips, it would be nice to see a summary of total distance traveled, how long you drove until you needed to stop to charge, how long your stop was to charge, etc. If others are like me and thinking of getting a Tesla it would be nice to see what these differences are compared to a gas car. Most gas cars will need to stop around 250 miles in (maybe more) and getting gas takes about 15 mins so comparing these would be good to see.

Another fun road trip video, and I love seeing different parts of the US. Hope to see more of these! And what you saw with your miles display is why I prefer using the battery percentage display instead. It's less hectic and you can still see a more accurate measure of your remaining miles when you look at the energy screen that shows the usage for the last 5, 15, and 30 miles. And on the trip tab, you can see how much energy it expects to use based on your speed, outside temperature and elevation changes. This bar will drop or raise depending on your speed, so if you go faster, it drops down. But if you go slower, it'll raise up.

Let the navigation/trip planner tell you what charge%/miles you will arrive with, it takes elevation etc into account. The "battery bar %/miles" display is based on "default/EPA" driving like 250Wh/mi, not the 300-400 you used uphill w/ load :) Just set display to %, and plan to arrive 10-20% at next supercharger..

This might seem petty but I have to ask. So, I test drove a model Y and was shocked at the lack of visibility through the rear windshield. The Tesla only has a slit to look through. It’s almost non existent. I’m used to a huge rear windshield. Now, I realize that the Model Y has a camera, but I don’t like that I’d have to push a button and look at the screen in order to scan behind me, rather than a quick glance in my rear view mirror. Feels unsafe. What do you think about this?
@Dawsomesauce2 жыл бұрын
It's an adjustment for sure. I was going to buy the camero when they refreshed it when it graduated highschool but said hell now once I drove it and saw the lack of visibility in the rear windshield. @cgamiga3 жыл бұрын
Yes, it takes elevation into consideration, possibly some temps.. but initial calc is more typical driving, not your exact driving style/speed & weather conditions (headwind, rain, maybe temps.. and extra weight).... the nav system will update arrival battery estimate as you go, but the best thing to do is use the "Energy" app , Trip tab when navigating... it shows the Projected as well as Actual charge curves, so you can see if you are doing better or worse than initial estimate, and maybe adjust your driving (speed) or charging plans in case... before it gives you warnings like "stay under 70mph to arrive" etc. This curve is VERY accurate. Trust it, and the overall nav warnings! (and, sometimes best to set your destination to next supercharger, so you know you will arrive w/ enough! Plus, then it pre-conditions battery.) Also, you can pre-plan trips w/ special circumstances (weather extremes, more load, as well as multiple stops) with ABetterRoutePlanner app/website (works on Tesla screen browser!) It can connect live to your car, and update its projections as well, and is also very accurate (if a bit more conservative) abetterrouteplanner.com/
