Mike Barnard 570s quarter mile time is recorded at 10.7 -11 Seconds (depending on conditions). How you got 11.6 on a sticky surface dragstrip is beyond me - possibly by not using launch control and early shifts.

570S driver was setting up launch control, and honestly in a real race reaction time counts so the Model 3 won. Model 3 doesn't need to fiddle with any launch control, it just goes. I bet the 570S would actually lose if it didn't use launch control as then the turbos wouldn't be spooled up.

@n s till then where will be tesla ? in 2012, the model S was doing 0-60 mph in 4.4 secs, in 2020 in 2.4 seconds, and the tesla 2012 S is the same price as the tesla 2020 S, the quarter mile went from 12.6 to 10.61 seconds, the top speed from 210 kmh to 261 kmh, all that in 8 years. Range went from 265 miles to 373 miles. Imagine what it will be in another 10 years. Meanwhile, porsche is trying to catch up, they invested big time and their taycan 2020 is gonna be 215 miles range and slower than the tesla and also two times the price. of a model S, 4 times the price of a model 3....

Both cool cars, but what you always see with Tesla drag races is how quick they are off the line compared to ICE cars. I've never yet seen an ICE car get off the line like a Tesla due to the more efficient traction control you get with electric motors and near optimum weight distribution with AWD. Not surprising the McLaren was a little quicker over the 1/4 either. Having a single gear is a bit of a compromise at higher speed. But what a car the Model 3 is for a daily driver!

Like others have written - yeah, that reaction time on the 570s was near sloth-like. Quick search shows it should be able to do a sub-11 second quarter mile. I'm a 2nd time Tesla owner, and love the look of the 570s. Would like to own one eventually. Can't wait for the days when nearly every car will have the option of being fully electric. That would be the best of both worlds - the look of the 570s with even better performance and drastically reduced carbon footprint.

So the McClaren won. It's built for one thing and does it very well, speed. The Tesla is built to commute back and forth to work, get groceries, hall the kids around, go to movies, and generally be used as an every day vehicle, without using any gas. And it's pretty fast also.

The McClaren won, but the Performance Model 3 was ahead at the 1/8th mile. Meaning the EV had quicker acceleration off the line, but the McClaren had more acceleration after 1/8th mile. Thanks Erik! Did you get a 0-60 time? Under 12 second quarter mile is very quick.

People making comments about how slow the 570S runs is that they don't understand at elevation it's a huge hit to the horsepower at least 50 horsepower. when I brought my car to Vegas it ran quite a bit slower even though it's 2000' so at 5000' that would be a huge hit to the performance of the 570S.

There is no "Technically" in drag racing. You cross first, you win. He ran a faster E/T, but you got a better reaction time and crossed first. A little electric car running in the 11s is awesome. Little hint. Try hitting the gas after that 3rd yellow is fully on. If you leave on green, you're WAY late. If you red light, start waiting for the 3rd yellow to be on a little longer.

Guys... you launch on third yellow, not the green. If you anticipate the third yellow you will red light. Don't anticipate it just launch when you see it and you will get a fast RT because of rollout and human reaction time. I believe this race was at 5000' elevation where the Tesla would not be affected at all and the McLaren would probly lose about 50 horse power but it's still an amazing accomplishment and that's extremely fast ! no BMW M3 could touch that time stock! 😁

Just saw this, in REALITY, the Tesla lost twice. The only reason I say this is because clearly the McLaren driver was still trying to get his mind right and the Model 3 was probably already at the 60ft mark. Crazy!! I guess the McLaren forgot he was in a race twice in a row. Give the McLaren a driver Mod with a similar reaction time and the McLaren will cross first. However,...and with that being said. The McLaren will only be a car length or less behind. I'd still opt for the model 3 cause it's super cool, super fast and super cheap compared to the starting price of $188k for the McLaren. My buddy just got a Model 3 Dual Motor Performance for $70k. Win for Tesla!! Sorry McLaren.

There is no "head start" in races. The Tesla's time starts when it rolls out or "1 foot roll out". Now... THAT SAID... in real life when you have a neck and neck 1st out of the red light that is EXACTLY what can happen and the Tesla is going to "win" AKA first of the line and first to get from point A to point B giving the owner the satisfaction to brag about a "win". I'll take that and save the dough on the more expensive car. And do groceries and not be spotted since the Model 3's are pretty common. I am the kinda guy who will accelerate out of a red to green light and go 10mph over speed limit and that's that. No Johnny Laws, no citations. Very few McClarens, Ferraris or Corvettes can beat this car. RWD cars will have a hard time. Too much power, wheel spin and the Model 3 gets all the torque from the start. No build up to 3500RPMs to get all the torque... nope.

There is no scenario where the race is this close unless staged. Now if the McLaren hits its 10.3 quarter time, which it can do quite easily, it would look like the tesla is a piece of shit and easily been blown away, but by showing this idiots can think oh wow a 70k tesla kept up with a 190k maclaren... no it didn't, don't be stupid. They intentionally drive the McLaren slow here, this is no accident, this is just sad.

Not taking anything away from you bro, most people who have never raced don't realize this, but you were doing what is called 'bracket racing'. That means your cars are rated. Your light turns green *before* his does. So, even though your reaction time is better (kudos man, you would make a good racer!), he is still smoking you. If you were both launching at the same time... he would be crossing the finish line before you. Hope that makes sense. You should keep doing it every so often though. It's a lot of fun for cheap! And it keeps your lead foot needs legal! :)

I own a McLaren HDK 570s Spider and have logged time in the Tesla. Teslas are quick. The problem is there is no visceral experience. It is a go cart experience...fun...but a go cart experience which is sterile and lacking the roar of a V8 engine. Handling is pedestrian in the Tesla, and the road compliance is what you would expect is a basic car. Comparing a supercar like the McLaren to the Tesla is admittedly a losing proposition for the Tesla, but these e-cars have a place in society.

What in the hell does it mean that the Tesla smoked the McClaren, passing the finish line with the McClaren no where in sight in the side cam, yet the McClaren beat the Tesla in timed speed. interesting...however, I think the McLaren sounds better. Plus the boys from England need to simplify their LC feature; 8 steps is too much unless it is supposed to be a deterrent...I'm also surprised no one mentioned this test took place at altitude...it's nice, but not spectacular; even with turbos, the 570 is handicapped and the Model3 or any electric car has the advantage the higher you go - see recent Pikes Peak hill climb

Anyone saying or arguing that the McLaren doesn't understand how drag racing works. Regardless of the ET (Elapsed Time). The Model 3 crossed the line first and therefore the winner, period. Hence why the left lane got the winner lights and also confirmed by the timesheet "Left 1st .xxxx" Which tells the amount of time the vehicle won by.

A sub-12 second 1/4 mile is very fast for a road car. That's the accomplishment. Claiming a "win" over a car because you crossed the finish line before a car that was leaving second after you (and clearly had no interest in a fast reaction time) cheapens that fact. It's like a prius owner claiming to have a faster car than you just because he passed you once during rush hour.

Why don’t they do these videos on a 1/2 charged battery? Could it be when an EVs battery isn’t 100% it doesn’t perform nearly as well. Model s with half charge isn't nearly as fast as a charger hellcat with half a tank of gas

570s should have run less than 11 seconds, it was high altitude and that made it much slower, and altitude does not affect electric cars. Dragtimes ran a 10.664 @130.78 mph at sea level.

Sorry but you can't count that as your car winning just because he had didn't cross the line first.. He did run a better time than you all 3 hits, just waited a second to leave the line to get turbo spool. I do think it's a win that the Model 3 keeps up with cars five times more expensive though!

But what the times mean is the Mclaren covers the 1/4 from start to finish faster. Which means its a faster car. I would still rather own your Model 3

It's funny how tracks don't count the reaction time as part of the time... in any normal race the tesla clearly won. When was the last time an F1 race was like... well the second place guy won and had a better time because he was slower. WTF.

YOU LOST....it wasn’t a drag race,in fact it was an ET race. In order to be a drag race both cars has to launch at the same time and the mclaren had a delay (look at the launching lights).
