Tesla needs to also integrate speed cameras with the premium subscription for the navigation. Even on my current car i never use them perse as i am not fond of how waze looks, but it would be a nice addition to the built in navigation.

Too much sense. Also the cost for premium connectivity is in credibly low considering the cell companies would really like to get $30/month for the amount of data that can be used. That's what they charge for data on iPads.

@@PoloJ410 Don't know about the S-Class, but I've driven EQS before. It has nicer leather chairs, but tech wise, their UI is very laggy and slow, it is nowhere comparable to Tesla's.

How does it work? Does it automatically reroute you just because you have premium connectivity, where is it if you didn’t have premium connectivity, it would take the slower route?

@@chezchezchezchez I’ve never “not” had premium connectivity, so I can only answer that WITH it, it showed the “red” heavy traffic area and rerouted me around it. I would guess that without premium it would not show or anticipate heavy traffic.

@@chezchezchezchez It will still re-route you around heavy traffic without premium connectivity. What you miss is a visualization on the screen of where the heavy traffic is. From the Tesla Connectivity page: "All cars with Standard Connectivity will continue to receive the same core maps & navigation functionality as cars with Premium Connectivity, including traffic-based routing, Trip Planner and Supercharger stall availability. Premium Connectivity will add satellite-view maps and live traffic visualization."

You’re right, it’s a first world problem but honestly I need it mainly for live traffic! It has saved me on many trips driving through big cities. Worth it for me

Look at getting RFID tags , Program one for you car and one for your home config , TAP them when needed and it will resolve your problem. Less than a $1 each once off cost.

I have bought a Model 3 a few weeks ago and I have about one week of free premium connectivity left. After that I'll give it a try with my iPhone, see how that works out for me. I have prepared my iPhone a bit for that already. Using automation on my iPhone (iOS 16.6), I have set up my iPhone to switch on the hot spot option as soon as my phone is connected to my Tesla by Bluetooth. And secondly I have set up my iPhone to switch the hot spot option off, as soon as the phone connects to one of a specified set of WiFi connections, like my home WiFi. And I should add that I have unlimited data use with my iPhone (at least in my home country, in the rest of Europe it's 50GB/month). I will see if this set up keeps working well. If not, well, then it will be the 9,99 per month.

It’s not about affording… it’s about using it… I don’t care about Google map and other features might be available for free from your phone so I just wanted to know what else am I missing by not getting getting it…

Not a question about being able to afford it. I've ordered my model 3 and those 10USD aren't something I would miss. But why should I pay Tesla for data collected and provided by Google (traffic, satellite images) if I'm not using their network? That's called an extortion - they are pocketing money for not blocking you to do something that has nothing to do with them.

@@mariajones8304 Maybe you do that the day you're going on a long trip with the car. For example, how are you going to know how much to charge to get to a certain charging station after the road and, in addition, find the charging station or see which ones are fast

Thanks for the informative video on Premium Connectivity. I am also planning to purchase a Model Y long range Tesla in the near future. Like you, I don't have unlimited Data service on my Android cell phone and only paying 25 dollars a month for just unlimited calls and texting which is a great cost for me. So i do not want to over burden my cell phone with allot of data through the cellular connect enabled. I do have one question right now which is Spotify on the premium service. Besides paying 10 dollars a month for premium, do we have to pay additional for Spotify? I have video streaming subscriptions to Netflix and HboMax and Premium KZbin, so I am not worried about those, probably just put in my ID and password. Not sure if Carokee is really necessary for me, unless I want to sing while driving. Do I really need the elaborate graphical maps, I guess I will see. i don't live in a congested large city or drive freeways. I also hear that Premium Connectivity for 2023 is now only for a month or so when we buy the Tesla vehicle, which is not really a big deal. At least we get to try everything before it disables which I will do. Thanks again and take care.

I wonder if having to turn off WiFi in order to tether is just specific to you. If you could leave WiFi on, Tesla updates going through your phone when you get home would still prioritize your WiFi over your data plan.

i only had free connectivity for 30 days....I paid for a couple of months extra but for the last few months I've been getting by without it and I can't be bothered messing around to get it to connect to my phone as an alternative. I like the map overlay but realize that you only get it on the daytime maps. I like the better music streaming connectivity but I generally stream from my phone or just listen to one or two radio stations. I might have to break down and get it again though as i might like to have the live sentry feature. I'm in Canada and it's around $16/mo. so a bit more too. I understand that the traffic awareness is still working to possibly re-route you in the Nav but it just doesn't show if you don't have the premium connectivity enabled

If you have an iPhone, Apple Maps will show you where the traffic jams are, so you could get the visualization there.

I thought unlimited data plans came standard with most cell phones these days. I don't know who you've got but you could try switching to Visible for like $30 month. They're owned by Verizon and run on the same network. The plan is unlimited. I've been with them for about 3 years and it works just about as good as verizon for about $50 month cheaper.

A BlackVue 750 lte dash cam would solve your problem(as you can use the internet through that)but you have to pay around $8/month. It’s £4 in the Uk with Vodafone. I have a MS which has premium connectivity for free but there is no sentry mode, hence I bought the dash cam.

Give it a try. For me, the down sides outweighed the upsides. It might work for you. The biggest problem for me was when my car would stay attached to my phone after I went into the house.

Thanks ! couple of feedback on my end I really value the sentry mode. Also small stuff like leaving the music on then when you get back to your vehicle as soon as you open the door the Music welcomes you again that is a so cool feature. Also probably on my end: responsiveness with an iPhone 13 when you want to turn off the music playing via Bluetooth. There is a longer lag (which I hate). Think I lol go premium too (might have to stop one of my streaming service to compensate for that (I have way too many 😂)

Unless you use a really good Bluetooth codec such as LDAC, which may not be supported by Tesla, you will also get audibly worse sound quality in the worst case

Tesla, for all its software powress, just cannot match Apple Car Play or Android Auto. This all would be moot if we got these basic services that other cars enjoy.

I've used Car Play and it has it's place. I do wonder how well it would integrate into the existing software and not just look or work as a tacked on thing. Having an App Store for the Tesla might be a good compromise.
