Scotty there is a manual handle on Teslas as a failsafe. It's on the handle just behind the button. You pull up on it and the door opens like a normal door

The only thing I don't get is why you say you're too cheap to buy one. You can get a base car for the price of a Toyota Camry with average appointments, and it will last 500,000 miles or more, with virtually no maintenance beyond tires and substantially cheaper fuel costs (my Model 3 costs 1/6 per mile what my Infiniti G37 did). And for that modest money you get a car that for all practical purposes is the fastest car on the road. You can't afford not to buy one IMO.

I will say with the door at 7:12, you mentioned having to grab the door frame to open the door, in fact after you press the handle to unlatch the door, you’re meant to grab the piece that pops out and continue to pull at the handle to open the door :)

I love Scotty, especially his humor mixed with solid logic. It's so rare today. I know he does, or someone does, some real tight editing....still, based on the pace of his speaking, he seems to be aerobically fit...he never seems to get out of breath. Informationally he's brilliant and very thorough! He very strategically covers the caveats and exception to his criticism well and so impresses us that he is fair and even-handed. Someone will probably take exception to this but if we had his videos 30 years ago people would be less gullible and cars would be more reliable and dealers would be more honest. Edgar Cayce Material on M.S. Muscle Scar was what it use to be called.... Muscular Sclerosis I think is the current name.... The lining on the nerves. Leaves a scar. The body dose not recognize the healed Scar. Thinks it is a foreign object in the body. So attack's this scar.... Was what I seen on the Edgar Cayce Material...... The person who did their treatment. Had became well enough to go back to work......

Fun, quick review. Couple notes - the regen is strong but can be adjusted, but the better way to work with it is feather off the accelerator to come to completely stop slowly, one pedal driving is great. The door handles - you push in the big part with your thumb and pull out the handle that presents itself, not pull the edge of the door.

Runaway diesels: I have worked in a Rental car shop for a few years and they had quite a few of 2010+ Ford Transit 2.2 Duratoq's They had anything from full on Transits to Fiestas and KA's Those transits had quite a few issues where it would blow the turbo and then return the oil into the intake manifold and shoot some out of the exhaust So, naturally it would just start overrevving and keep running even after the key is out because they found a new source of fuel Either 1. Wait for the engine to blow 2. Take out the key, foot on the brake, pull the parking brake and jam it into 6th gear to get it to stall And let me tell ya' Those things would have a lot of issues Every single one of them blew the turbo at least once and had an issue with "running away"

2:38 They keycards are for backup and for guests, PINs are optional security. if you have your phone the car unlocks when you are nearby. 6:00 Supercharging is pretty much only when you're on a roadtrip, plug in 240v at home. 6:40 Instead of an engine theres a crumple zone part of why they are the literally the safest cars on the road according to NHTSA. Tesla will pay to have the gaps in the body fixed if it bothers you--it's not that common of a problem and they give you a loaner.

I've actually had a Detroit Diesel engine go backwards by pushing the clutch and brake abruptly when I was backing my tractor trailer up into a space in our yard ( the company I worked at). I turned the engine off quickly. The shifter was in reverse and when it happened, it went forward. This happened in the late '70s... it was a two cycle diesel engine.

Modern Diesel engines can still suffer from runaway even when switched off. Not all can but most could with the right conditions, we had a call out to a 2015 diesel car, the turbo had failed and the oil from the sump was being drawn into the cylinders and the engined revved out of control despite the owner switching it off. The failed seals in the turbo allowed the oil to leak into the air inlet side and the engined redlined until it seized when the oil was used up.

On some Teslas. The button by the door handle if for emergency opening. It doesn’t retract the window to clear the seal. And could damage the seal.

You have all of its torque available from 0 RPM. However, even with an electric motor, it’s the combination of torque and RPM (the two things multiplied together) that gives horsepower. Scotty misspoke about it being full horsepower from 0 RPM.

@@sategllib2191 I suspect the same thing. Whether a BEV is practical or not depends on the living situation of the owner. For some people, such as in cities with closely-packed houses and no off-street parking, or apartment complexes that don’t yet have enough charging stations, or someone who needs to drive long distances more than once in a blue moon, that’s probably true. But for others it could be just fine. Especially “for daily use”, where people who do have their own driveway (and eventually others as charger availability improves) could probably easily live with a shorter-range BEV as their 2nd car, and have a gas 1st car that they use for long trips.

When you push in one side of the handle, the other side pops out - that's how you grab the other side of the handle that pops out and open the door. Obviously not so convenient if you're doing it one handed with a camera on your dominant hand.

To open the driver side doors, push with you left thumb and grab with your fingers when it the skinny part of the handle pops out. Passenger side doors use your right hand.

Just a point, ..... when you push the rear part of the door handle, the door handle pops out, to easily open the door. You don't have to fiddle about behind the door to pull it open, like he did in the video at 7:06

I test drove the exact same model this week. One thing I will say is, you're supposed to use your phone as a key as opposed to the key card. Also, I totally agree about the bumps on the road. I was surprised how bumpy my ride was compared to my care. Other than that, it's cool. I didn't like the minimalist inside and it just costs too much for me. I'll stick with what I have.

A note about the handles. You're meant to grab the handle that pops out. They're shaped like your hand. Press the big piece with your thumb and your fingers will be in just the right place to grab the handle that pops out as you do so.

Scotty, I had a 2013 International Prostar runaway when it was only 18 months old. The oil seals in the turbo started leaking on the air intake side. Enough oil got in and away she went. It spun uncontrolled at over 2000 rpm for almost 5 minutes before I was able to get it stopped by restricting the airflow at the filter. I got lucky that it didn't do major damage. A knew 13 liter engine would have cost almost $40k to replace.

The door handles aren't gimmicks. They are for reducing aeodynamic drag, which matters _way more_ for an EV than an ICE vehicle. Also the easiest way to use them is to push in with your thumb and grab the handle with your hand (instead of the door edge).

Just a thing about the door handles and the key(card). You push in the fat part of the handle, like seen in the video, but you don't but your fingers behind the door to pull it open then. If you push in the fat part of the handle, the slim part sticks out. So just press the fat part with your thumb, grab the slim part with your other fingers and there you go. The keycard also isn not the main key, it is a backup. The main key is your phone. Of course, you wouldn't give a person you rent your car to your phone as well, so rentals will always use the keycard. But if you own one, phone is just fine love the video
