Last night I ordered my first ever new car from Tesla, Model Y AWD. I have always settled and bought used cars my entire life, now I am going to get what I want. :) Not much out there can beat the 1.99% financing Tesla offers, so I pulled the trigger. Looks like about 10 days before I can go and get it, the anticipation is killing me. I have a detached garage about 75' away from my house electric service and I will need to trench and bury a line and install a breaker for the level 2 charger. So at least that will keep me busy until I get my new wheels.

I actually discovered the same thing in May/June and was able to purchase my First Tesla, a 2021 Model 3 with 26k miles on it. It was $24900 which after the tax credit was $20900. I love this car more than any other car I have drove. I used to private drive some business people in 100k+ cars and while those have some very unique luxury features, the drive and experience isn't as nice as this Tesla, I love the minimalism of the design, while friends who have seen it say they want more buttons. Usually after they take a ride or two they change their mind on that opinion.

The fact that there are so many model 3's clustered at just a few hundred dollars over $25k (in CA at least!) is clear proof that Tesla is deliberately excluding these from the tax credit. They could easily sacrifice a couple of hundred dollars in order to give their customer this huge percentage benefit. They must be trying to prevent the used market from impacting their new sales (maybe during this current slow-down that is hitting their margins and stock price)

@NikeshAmin

Don't forget that the $4000 tax credit for EVs has an income cap significantly lower than the $7500 credit available on new cars. For individual filers, your income cannot exceed $75k while married folks can have an income up to $150k. This is in contrast to the limits of $150k and $300k respectively for the $7500 credit.

Those examples are really good deals. I bought a 2017 Tesla Model S 75D (lots of options) with 75k miles back in Feb, just snuck under the tax credit. At the time, the M3’s that qualified were base 2018’s with 80k+. Similar 2020 or 2021 M3s were still $30-35K. That’s a huge drop in just a few months.

Yeah I have to agree with Uber CEO. The thing about full autonomous ride share vehicles especially teslas idea is that they aren’t thinking about psychological reinforcement. Idk if you can remember but laundry detergent used to be powder form. The only reason they changed to liquid is because liquid doesn’t clump in the water like the powder did. So it psychologically reinforced that people didn’t have to stir the water to make sure the detergent was in there like the powder. Tesla has to do the same with their cars. People will resist the idea of riding in the cars because there’s no “safety” or “control” reinforcement.

If all cars were "self driving" vehicle deaths and injuries would go way down to the point of being statistically insignificant. The NACS port shown is on the rear passenger side of the Rivian, the opposite of Tesla. If they move the port to the rear driver's side Rivian drivers will be able to seamlessly charge at Superchager stations while backing in as Teslas do. If Rivian moves the port to the driver side front that is a non starter. A Rivian driver would have to pull in forward into the space to the right of the one a Tesla would use, effectively taking up two stations.

Speaking of EV sales, it's now confirmed that over 50% of new vehicle sales in China are EVs, and that number is growing at an increasing rate. That's significant since China is the largest automotive market in the world by far. Also, GM, Ford, Stellantis, and other European legacy automakers can no longer compete in the Chinese market and have already pulled out or are in the process of pulling out. However, as reported by TESLARATI data from the China Passenger Car Association showed that the Model Y dominated electric vehicle sales statistics during the first half of the year in China. So Tesla is doing just as well in China as in the European and U.S. markets. Overall, the EV take rate in Europe and globally is expanding. EV sales are growing while ICE vehicle sales are going in a corresponding diametrically opposite direction and slowing considerably. Be aware of the mainstream media hype blowing smoke in your eyes and attempting to gaslight and convince the uninitiated that EV sales have stalled or stagnated. The numbers prove quite the opposite.

I have bought model 3 2021 from Tesla for $25K minus 4K tax credit . Tax credit can be applied of the used car only once. The reason why people do not see mention tax credit on 25K cars because usually there is none. Hopefully this helps.

Last year I got my new Model Y. Initially for few months my range was coming upto 329/330 (7 seater). Then later Tesla announced their modified range for Model Y and from then on my Model Y range fell to 308 miles (on 100% charge). Now when I am seeing these used Teslas I am surprised to see the range as 326 or 330 miles. How this is possible. Do you mind sharing how much range you would get on 100% charge.

I own an ID4, 2 Teslas and an F150 Lightning, and a Cadillac Lyriq. I use these cars on Turo. If you were going to be driving around town and charging at home, the ID4 is just fine. However, its range is limited for road trips, at least out west. The Tesla user interface is simpler, and the charging is also simpler. However, there is the Elon factor, and I probably cannot bring myself to buy more Teslas, at least new ones from Mr. Musk for my business.

Take this with a grain of salt: I was recently getting a ride in a Lyft. I was talking about automation with the driver and he told me he had recently given a Lyft to some Chinese engineers (his words) who were programming for Waymo. They told him that Waymo w/its current design will never get approved for public adoption, as each car heavily relies on cloud processing, and that there is too much latency to the Waymo servers to let the cars navigate the roads and respond to conditions in real time. If this is all true, then once on-board processing is adopted and matures, robotaxis (at least for Waymo) may have a better chance.

I think the logic of more cars must mean lower growth rates doesn’t explain everything. Switch from horses to ICE took about 10 years. Massive growth rates but somehow Ford made it happen even while there was a war a multiple other problems. Don’t underestimate how fast things can go sometimes in capitalistic markets
