Just out of interest, we left our Tesla Model Y at the airport last December and, over a two-week period, it used only 2% of the battery - and there was about a foot of snow on the roof on our return, so it had obviously been very cold during that period. We were very satisfied with this level of drain on the battery.

Yup, SentryCam (and DashCam) are great features! Not best resolution and no audio, but multi-angle for free can't be beat! You can always get a 3rd party if you want ... a neighbor helped police catch a catalytic converter thief across the street, cops saw their Tesla in driveway and asked for video, helped identify and catch them! It really works! Sentry uses about 1mile/hour, or around 8% per day/24hrs, if long range, just be aware for longer parking periods eg days away. It will auto-shut off once reach 20% battery, and then car doesn't lose much at all.

Does the car send an alert when you are away from the car and something happens to the car? I'm thinking of a situation where, for example, you park the car and then go for a walk. If so, for peace of mind then you'd know that if you hadn't received alerts then there was nothing to worry about.

People often mistakenly believe that a security camera *protects* their car from vandalism etc. If course, it does no such thing. Much better to say - it monitors the car - and nothing more.

Hi Ian, great content today, I have actually learnt how to further use and operate my Sentry system on my Y. Thank you. From your video about 3 weeks ago, how are you getting on with one pedal driving or have you gone back to the old fashioned modes?

In my opinion, Sentry Mode is only any good if it picks up a reg number or similar, or you or one of your contacts recognises the vandal, and therefore you have someone to blame. If it is a random act of keying the car, or some other senseless act then sentry mode is not much good, as the police are unlikely to pursue, so you simply end up a 1 minute clip of someone costing you a lot of money.

Dashcam is very useful, I'll agree. Sentry Mode works well, but does drain down the battery if it is on all the time, and if you park up at the side of a busy street it will be recording all the time and you'll have dozens of clips. Since you have remote access to the cameras you must have paid extra for Premium Connectivity. Do you think it's worth it? I wasn't impressed by browser, KZbin and the like during the free month on my Model Y, which is pretty much identical to yours. My door locks are cleverer than I am, only the drivers door now auto-unlocks unless I use the long press on the drivers internal button and can't figure out how to set all to auto unlock.

I thought it only stored a clip if the car was nudged? My dashcam (non tesla) stores all movement so i turned it off as I might be in say Tesco and find I had 50 alerts when i got back.

@@Joe-lb8qn Tesco car park would be a good example. If Sentry Mode had camera detection on you'd have a load of clips. I'd guess it was set to record a clip if someone came within X distance. Don't know what the trigger for an "event' would need. Last time I parked at home with Sentry Mode on I saw some of the local kids standing behind the car leaping up and down deliberately to trigger it.

Then the Tesla employees share your intimate moments from inside the car... Yeah, it's great!

Erm, there aren't any intimate moments inside my car...

You can buy a $100,000 Mercedes, BMW or Lexus and they still don't have CCTV system like a base model Tesla. LOL.
