@rj8u - You understand that the subscription is not a Tesla subscription but the Chamberlain MyQ right? Tesla added the software like Spotify to allow you to use other services. Using your logic Spotify should be free with Tesla premium LTE.

@@baileym4708 Yeah, but some other car brands have a deal with Chamberlain so that the feature is free for their customers. For example, I don't think Mitsubishi or Mercedes owners need to pay a monthly fee.

Am I missing something. I Just use myq app on the iphone. Its free andworks great. You can open from anywhere and see the status of your garage door anytime. Granted it wont open automatically when you drive up but its just a button (big) on the phone.

I have both homelink and myq on my model y. At my location, i find that myq only works about 50% of the time. The signal needs to go to the cloud and back to the garage door receiver, which can be hit or miss depending on cell signal strength etc. When myq is triggered it can also be slow to react and have longer latency. The homelink method, although not perfect, works consistently for me.

Set up the trial for the Tesla MyQ integration the first day and have been loving it! I still have the "clicker" in the car just in case but I haven't used it since.

Not every one uses these for garages. A lot of us uses this for gates. At this time MyQ is not supported by a lot of gate openers. Also, some gates are too far from the home and cannot connect to the internet. The simplicity of Homelink allows this to work and I hope Tesla brings this to Cybertruck.

Nothing at all but for techy people such as myself it’s just cooler and extra features. You can open it from anywhere in the country to let a family member in or house maintenance people and you can give access to everybody that lives in that house. No more buying controls and having to replace the batteries

One time payment for devices and records everything locally to memory. Even if you get ring basic that’s $500 over 10 years or $1000 or 20 years just for a little door camera. Ridiculous

myQ was too flaky so I installed the Homelink module. There were times when myQ would just time out and not open the door. This became more frequent and was very annoying resulting in having use the old garage door opener. I tried several things like leaving Wi-Fi enabled in Drive and having an AP in my garage, but it was still not reliable enough.

I got a MyQ system from Amazon years ago for like $18 and installed it to my existing garage opener. I got it back then mostly for the Amazon Key delivery. And also I didn’t need to subscribe to any service to use it.

I was able to remove my Homelink on one model Y and install it in a new one. So it is possible to move from one Tesla to another.

Funny timing since I just got a my q garage door opener this week. Everybody that subscription is a straight up scam. You can do it for free through just the app. The main reason I got the my q garage door opener is because it works with Amazon key. Amazon drivers get one time access to your garage to leave a package. I also got the my Q camera to record events in my garage as well as the smart lock for the garage entry door. Everytime an Amazon delivery initiates, the smart lock on the entry door automatically locks so then unlocks once the garage door closes. After closes there’s no way for the Amazon worker to open it again. Little risky sure but there’s nothing valuable in my garage and my garage entry is always locked so 🤷‍♂️. No more porch pirates though

What you’re paying for on MyQ subscription to your Tesla or multiple Tesla is that you don’t have to do anything. Yes doing the MyQ App is free but so is a garage door opener remote. Also since you got a camera with your MyQ you’re paying a dumb subscription fee esker if you have Ring or Google cameras cloud subscription. Because you could just add a Ring or Google camera which doesn’t cost anymore than what you’re paying already. That’s what I have a MyQ garage door opener and a Ring Stickup Camera.

It does not work well if you back into the garage and leave. It sometimes does not close the garage door when leaving. I think a strong wifi is needed in the garage. A Google Fi is probably needed in the garage. Just add another node. I have one in the garage.

I have the MyQ garage opener and use my iPhone to open the garage from anywhere as long as I have cell service or wifi. I don’t think I pay for this feature annually. Why is there a fee to connect MyQ to my Tesla..?

I couldn’t figure this out either. Bought the myQ HUB/sensor from amazon for $18. Got the app for free. I can open/close/monitor the door from anywhere my phone has a signal. I keep my phone in the holder in my Model Y and when I’m two blocks away, open the garage door. Which means I can use myQ as long as I have my phone and with anything I drive. Why pay $299 for 10 years or $38.25/year for a subscription just for style points?? I mean I guess I get it. myQ is at the top of the Tesla screen and accessible without having to open an app on your phone. But just doesn’t seem worth any amount if it’s more than free. Everybody’s different.

Seems like it should be fairly straightforward for Tesla to use the cameras to recognize if the garage is open or closed and to double-tap the HomeLink for the occasional miss. Doesn't give the open from anywhere feature, but there are other ways to do that. Wyze has a neat mechanism. You just put their basic camera by your garage opener and tape a piece of paper with a QR code to your garage door. If the camera sees the QR code, it knows the garage is closed. There's a simple adapter that links to the garage door wiring. I love Wyze! Very functional without a subscription.

the myQ Hub and included garage door sensor is available on Amazon. $18. The phone app is free. If your garage has a good WiFI signal, it works great. Never had a problem with mine.

Homelink allows 3 remotes, so i can access mult garages (mine, parents, sister) and not pay 3 subscriptions. MyQ is also flaky, i went on a bike ride yesterday and couldn't open my garage when i got back. Actually had to use the Tesla app to fire Homelink to get in, and this happens more frequently than I'd like

Nah what I did is stick Velcro to the back side and bottom of the screen and stuck the remote there. It’s completely out of site and kinda acts like a secret button for the garage door

I have a secondary smart garage door opener by Meross and I just use Siri to open and close my garage. You can use Alexa and google assistant too though. No subscription. Always knows the doors status and only $40. Super easy to install

For me as long as you’re close enough it doesn’t beep. If it signals the WiFi and you’re too far away then it beeps. Might need to resync yours

So distance doesn't make a difference. I think MyQ on Tesla is just sending out a LTE signal to close. It's been awhile since I tried the free trial of MyQ. So your doesn't beep when you reverse right out of the garage and you press the close button on the screen?

For the price of 1-2 years of the subscription I set up a permanent solution that works with Siri and Home Assistant and still tells me if the door is open or closed using kzbin.info/www/bejne/pITVnmmebNdggacsi=p-cBJRsLywil44N6 It isn't integrated into the touchscreen on the Tesla, but I have an automation that opens the door when I get home and can just tell Siri to close the door as I leave. With an automation to check 1 minute after I leave to notify me if the door is still open. Also lets me know at bedtime if I've left the garage door open on accident. Works amazing. Been using it on my wife's Model Y for years and now that I've got a Cybertruck it works great for that as well.

It’s a straight up scam 🤦‍♂️. I have a similar device as yours that was $40 on Amazon called Meross. I can use Siri to open and close and it knows the status as well. Delayed auto close and how long it’s been opened reminder. Can open from anywhere and give access to all my household family members. I also have the myQ garage door opener that works for my Amazon deliveries. That doesn’t require a subscription either. They also partnered with Yale so whenever an Amazon delivery initiates the garage passage door auto locks then Auto Unlock’s when the garage door closes.
