I was thinking of redirecting a little bit of the air ducts going to the rear seats to actively cool the Pi. Although, I probably don't need root for any of that. These are very similar units, capable of running the same software. The biggest differences would be the resolved glitches (airbag light, steering wheel controls, stuff like that), custom hard button, and the easier install (don't need to hack your steering column) on the AUCar

Good question - I just grabbed an iPhone and I'm launching a video this weekend with a full Carplay setup and demo on the MK5. But simple answer, yes there's full Apple Carplay support, wired and wirelessly and it works well.

Hey great videos man, gonna sub! Question: Audio, can’t see any comments on this. I’m assuming the MK5 acts only as an audio source and not amplification? My 350z BOSE audio was instantly ripped out but with the BOSE premium in my Q60 the audio is like pretty decent. So I’m conscious to avoid downgrading audio just for the screen. Cheers

Thx for the support Wasso!!! So consider the MK5 a source that you'd plug into your aux port, like a phone or mp3 player. That's exactly how it behaves, it piggybacks the AUX. If you have Bose, all the amplifying and sound processing will still be handled downstream. The MK5 has its own EQ but I leave flat and just let the Bose do it's thing. Hope that helps!!

Love the tutorial just pre ordered the MK6! I was confused on the hotspot portion, does this mean the screen can’t run apps that require wifi such as spotify, waze etc.. without having the hotspot on? Is there any way around that just needs some clarification thanks and great showcase!

These are full Android devices and thus are most useful when you feed them internet. Without internet, it'll run the apps, but if they have functiinality that requires internet, that functionality won't work (Spotify and Google maps have offline mode, I do t think Waze does). If you don't want to go the hotspot route, the MK6 comes with a sim port so you can give it a dedicated 4g data plan 😈

How quickly does the screen boot up when starting the car? Can you show our talk about how to put in split screen? Can you change the color of the physical buttons? How good is the GPS signal? Thank you

It's fast boot, so if you've started the car in the last 24 hrs, its pretty quick... seconds. Longer than that, it does a full reboot and takes ~20 seconds to be usable. Apps that can be split screened have indicators in the bottom left corner that allow you to toggle split screen mode, and switch position (top/bottom) There's an app called colors that allows you to change the backlight on the physical buttons including the HVAC controls on the side. GPS signal is great, no issues. If u use the included puck, be sure to position it with a view of the sky. If ur Q has factory nav, you can use your factory gps antenna if u buy an adapter.

It was supposed to be released for customers by now, but COVID, supply chain, etc etc issues have things delayed and up in the air. The question I have for you is, are you familiar with the "Cidava" or "Autotecpro" screens for the Q and if so whats are your thoughts on it? I know it is more expensive than the Mark 5 but from the limited reviews I have read it seems that it is at par with the M5 w Sergey firmware as well as super responsive due to newer software I believe all while supporting 360 cam, Bose, split screen etc. I almost pulled the trigger on the M5 just the other night and now I'm on the fence because of this Cidava unit or whatever they will call it. Hey Rob ! Sorry For the constant comments on videos …. Again I’m really loving the unit and the firmware update. What I think I ran into was the wrong car audio company because I’m finding little faults in their installation and they make it seem like it’s a very complicated and expensive fix. I was messaging Sergey to fix the CarPlay issues but he mentioned I should be good and asked me to update some things on the original Intouch menus but when I hit the button it won’t let me access the menus. Did they not Install a cord/wire correctly? I’ve looked over your videos and I’m not seeing how it won’t run like yours if they are audio pros…. If you need to I can send you a text if this will be more back and forth than expected.

Google navigation allows you to download maps of your local area so you can navigate without an internet connection. You'll miss out on all the live notifications/traffic rerouting/etc but it'd work.

@@jarrelshotya2573 I see internet and HVAC as 2 completely independent topics. You can operate HVAC (and any other car functionality) anytime, whether or not you've got internet access. Additionally, there are hard buttons down the left and right side of the screen so that, in the unlikely event the screen stopped working, you could still fully operate your dual zone HVAC, front/rear defroster, etc etc. Not providing internet would only hinder functionality on those apps that required internet to work. Hope this helps!

Thanks! They're actually cheapo LEDs off Amazon (amzn.to/3dIv0BV). I insist on stealthy wiring whenever possible. I wired it to the dome lights, so they turn on when the doors open, or I hit the dome light button. Used this same circuit: kzbin.info/www/bejne/boOWqY16nt-qaas

Cool, just be warned: the major benefit of those is their price. 2 complaints I've got with them: 1) They are RGB so the white isn't 'pure' - looks more like orange to me 2) it sometimes forgets the setting it was last on, resulting in a surprise RGB rave in your footwells. I'm actively looking for a better solution and I'll be sure to post what I come up with so stay tuned!

Hey Rob, I finally got my unit in and installed, got Sergey firmware, but haven't installed it yet. So I have this wierd problem and wondered if it happened to you with this product? When installing the unit I went ahead and hooked up the rca so that way if I wanted upgrade the door speakers I wouldn't have to take the dash out again to hook it up. I did however installed a subwoofer and couldn't find a remote wire on the mark 5 so I decided to tap the remote wire the same way you did it on you subwoofer upgrade video, which worked. But the problem is when I turn my volume up or down the subwoofer stay a it's constant volume. Even when I turn the volume down to 0 the subwoofer is still hitting. Did you have the same problem?

Nah but I didn't use the subwoofer out from the MK5. I just tapped the Bose subwoofer signal like in my other video. If you use the MK5s subwoofer out, you might need to use the equalizer in settings to control the sub's output??

Dumb question probably. But I’m an Apple girl, with a 2017 Q50. I got one that didn’t have the heated seats or navigation. Would this still work for me if I have an iPhone? And who would put this in for me. I’m ignorant to the process. Your answer will definitely help me

Not dumb, probably the most common question I get. Gonna post a video soon to address it. But yes it definitely works with an iPhone. U can either feed it internet by setting your iphone as a hotspot, or use Carplay wired or wirelessly. Installation is pretty easy, u can do it in less than an hour with just a screwdriver. @Static Alpha In a nutshell, its similar internal components, with new custom buttons. The install is WAY easier (no need to get into steering column which is a major PITA). The MK3 is glitchy out of the box, and needs firmware updates/Sergey mod to be reliable. Those issues/glitches that the MK3 had are resolved on the MK5, fresh out of the box. It just works. MK5 also gets to your door in 5 days, vs several weeks with Phoenix MK3. In my opinion, if you already have an MK3, its probably not worth it to get the MK5. If you're considering your first Tesla-style screen, the MK5 is a no brainer.

How do you install the gps and microphone on this. In your installation vid you skipped those parts. Im interested in buying this but before pulling the plug i need to know this. Also need to know about heated seats

The gps I routed around the glovebox to the passenger side of the dash. The puck needs a view of the sky. Alternatively, if you have factory gps, there's an adapter u can use that will leverage the OEM GPS antenna. Microphone I routed to the side of the unit, right above the leather trim piece. Some customers have reported NOT needing the microphone attachment too. I believe if you don't connect their mic, the system will use your OE mic. Heated seats work without a hitch. Tested em myself.

It's got fastboot, so if you've run it less than 24 hours ago then it's available pretty much instantly when you start up (seconds). If its been over 24 hrs it does a full reboot and that takes more like 30 seconds

Love the video! I've been contemplating on getting this type of screen on my Q. I do have 1 question though, does it work only with the OEM back up camera or can it work with an aftermarket one as well? My biggest peeve on my Q is the quality of the camera (I have a 2014 model, only have the rear camera and no 360 view) and would love to see if getting the Mark V and maybe getting a better quality camera would improve it. (Any recommendation as far as what back up camera to pair this with?)

Good question, I hear you on the camera quality lol. This screen is high definition, so it'll actually make your stock camera look worse, because it's stretching the low resolution image out wider. I only uploaded 3 days ago but it has been consistently stable for the ~1.5 weeks I've owned it - that's all I can go by! I've seen many reports of those MK3 issues too, and generally the issues dont "pop up" over time, they're messed up right outta the box

Nope sounds good to me. It just sends audio through the Bose amp like any other input, and there's a 16 band equalizer for fine tuning.

I honestly have no idea what the speaker is for. I didn't install it, and I haven't noticed any purpose for it. I ran the microphone out the driver side, just above the leather trim on the center console. I've seen some other people run it up the a pillar so it's closer to the drivers mouth, but that makes the voice assistant/bluetooth mic less accessible for my passengers.

Can you play video while driving on this unit. I like the tesla screen style, but is on the fence, since it require a Hotspot to run the unit. I was also looking at the smartauto kit and saw your video showing how I can play video while driving which is what I want. Seeing that you have experience with both unit, which one do you think is better?

Yeah it can do video while driving also (downloaded videos like the smartautokits, as well as Netflix, KZbin, Hulu, whatever) I like the Tesla screen better for 2 reasons: 1) it looks awesome in comparison 2) no wires, nothing to plug in when I drive. It just works. It also does a lot more than the Smartautokits unit. It's essentially an Android tablet so it can run any app. Hope this helps!!!

Its good in most conditions. When I have direct light coming Ithru the sunroof it's tough to see. It's basically the same core hardware as the MK3

I saw a video of the Manufacturer AuCar and they explained that the reason it is called the Mark 5 is because they skipped the Mark 4. In other words, they also manufacture Phoenix Automotive Mark III. Just created a different company for the new version.

So at the top of the screen, there's a little moon icon. Touching it blacks out the screen so u can drive in stealth mode. It comes back in next time u touch the screen or a button.
