Tesla Semi Factory Construction - Taking Care of Business! August 16, 2024

I estimate that 80-90% of all footings have been dug. 20-30% of these have concrete poured and are curing. A subset of these have post bases and are ready for steel posts.

By 'posts', I think you mean "columns' which are placed vertically. Beams connect the columns horizontally and the trusses are used for the structural floors and or roofing.

At 5:03 you can see the booms of at least 5 manlifts and several all terrain forklifts in front of the manlifts that I would bet are going to be used by the steel erectors. Upright steel is coming soon.

7:15 The stacks of corrugated metal under the black plastic is bundles of roof decking. The deck gets welded to the roof trusses once they are erected and all the steel is plumb and all the bolts are tight.

mostly what I see are posts, beams, and open web trusses Nomenclature comes from wood timber framing.. suggest you look at a couple of books on that and you will know exactly how it all fits together. What is very old is new again. This is basically the skeleton of the building. They will also place girts which are still nothing but beams to connect the various sections together. Once installed they will start installing roof panels and eventually they will put up sides to enclose the building.. Kind of like rinse and repeat and next day do it all over again.

Not sure why the drone does the, rotate left then right and then the up and pan. Doesn’t seem to be something that a drone pilot would do. Perhaps worth editing out?? Thanks for the update Zanegler. Re - the column footing layout - my guess, and it’s just a guess from an architect not an engineer, is the super large pad footings with the smaller footings in between may be for large overhead gantries. These gantries are essentially a moving beam that can run along a line of columns, with lifting points used to lift very heavy objects - usually in tandem. This would make sense for a factory with large elements - like a truck chassis. I think the smaller pads in between, the very large footing pads, are just to add extra support to the concrete slab in between - as there would be high floor loads in these zones. This for me would start to make a bit more sense of the layout. With the big footings (usually with smaller footings in between) creating large double bays with gantries overhead. I really appreciate your updates Zanegler, keep up the good work!

Agreed. Bridge-cranes are critical for semi production. Every part is bigger than a normal vehicle. That is a pre-programmed mastershot and I kinda like it. The drone takes over for a few minutes and includes several drone maneuvers.
