I live in Illinois, we have 1-1 net metering at the moment. My contractor is installing 20 Q-cells panels and the powerwall 3, with Gateway 2. Updating 100 amp to 200 amp service. Hope I made the correct choice.

Why would you choose solar power modules that have anything but the best long term guaranty? Why choose a battery at all if you d9nt need one now? Do you suffer power outages? Why not wait for the never ending progression of battery changes to settle in a year or two? You are choosing batteries that have been rushed to market due to panic reactions about net metering in other places? Also, not hearing any of the important details. It never ceases to amaze me that people on these videos amand threads only talk about the equipment as they explain what they're doing. Never sharing the more important questions! The equipment choices are obvious. And usually wrong. The important questions, well, you didn't ask if you did them right.

The backup switch is really a game changer with the backup switch to lower the cost. Unfortunately, my gas meter is too close to my electric meter, so my installer had to add Tesla gateway 2 and new main panel. I believe the installation went from 1.5 days with backup switch to 3 full days from not able to utilize the Tesla backup switch.

Thank you for all the good information. I’m currently designing my system and will be using the Tesla 3 batteries. . Three batteries with a ground mounted system will use bifacial solar collectors.. these collectors have glass on both sides and produces energy from the front and the reflected light from the back. . The rating of these collectors does not include what you could get from reflected light that go to the back of the collectors. will keep you posted on the final design and will be installing end of August.

@@TheDavid19691969 good point. We signed up with a massive solar company, Petersen- Dean, figuring since they were in 7 or so states the were safe. They were slow to respond and Tesla was much quicker. So we dropped PD and went with Tesla. 2 months later PD went out of business. Tesla still answers emails quickly and has rolls trucks to fix things. Not as quick as I would like, but at least they still do warranty work.

How important is panel level monitoring in your view? I can see that it would be nice to monitor each panel, but power optimizers and microinverters heat exposure on the roof are the most likely candidates for failure over the panel. And that means service calls, which inconvenience homeowners and cut profits to installers. If you don't have shading issues, would just a set of string inverters suffice for monitoring overall power of the panels on the string? Thanks!

Lack of generator connection is not good for people in Hurricane states. How expensive is it to add a manual or auto power switch? Once switched over, I figure the solar system is no longer part of the solution, so the batteries are not being charged. From the description on the Powerwall 3 page, it sounds like all of the functionality of the older PW/PW2 + gateway is in the new system. That page shows the instant takeover, not buying when the rates are high, and selling back to the utility in alerts where they offer high rates for you to send the stored power in your battery system back to the grid. I assume this is one of the same Virtual Power Plant (VPP) programs that current Powerwall owners can participate in in certain locales. We participate in this, and we get from $300-400 check from the utility each year.

I like the fact that Powerwall 3 will support microinverters and do wish it would support generators to recharge the battery during a grid down power outage. 4 years ago I was sold on 'cutting edge' Enphase battery backup with generator support'. Little did I know that cutting edge meant 'we aren't ready for primetime yet so you will be a guinea pig for us'. I ended up purchasing a small (too small) Enphase 3kWh battery (they only offered 3kWh and 10kWh options at the time) with a 10kWh generator. The system was installed with a critical load sub-panel to only allow for circuits I had to choose (and that could not include AC power or electric stove circuits). It took over a year before Enphase released support for generators using their switching device. I might consider adding a powerwall 3 in the future, but only if it could support a whole house backup including AC and stove (maybe AC with a soft start device). My current daily usage avg 10-13kWh so adding 13.5 to my 3kWh battery should cover me, but I also need the powerwall to support generators since I have one.

Tesla pw3 agree are very advanced , however buyers need to be aware of the plethora of problems it has post install and a wait time of upto 3-4 months for Tesla service. Highly recommend using third party installers to install as Tesla service is getting absolute. Mind you - you will have problems with pw3 100% at least one major one in 2-3 years of install

@@SolarSurge and @Foreverfront The gateway 3 currently has no external CT ports to my knowledge, so the gateway 2 needs to be used to measure AC coupled solar. DC on the roof is not an option. Voltage on the string accumulates, DC arc faults are a real risk.. Plug and play methods are only as safe as the squire chewing your connectors and the Installer splice errors responsible for most DC solar related fires. interestingly your videos are sponsored by an insurance company... DC efficiency and lowest price is a red herring selling point IMO. All the advantages TSLA solar has introduced will be copied industry wide within one or two product upgrade cycles. I wonder out loud what the insurance cost is for a 30 year policy covering products with 10 year life spans?
