Just got my Tesla tinted. I was contemplating between 15% or 5%. I would highly recommend going 5% in all the window’s except the front window of course. So glad I went the 5% route. My front window I did 50%….living in South Florida it’s definitely a must. I never did my roof window above the driver seat, probably will definitely get that done soon…..It gets pretty toasty in the summer.

I did the same in my Model 3 including windshield, roof and all around. The cost of the ceramic tints here in Puerto Rico was $475.00. Here is summer all year around and specially in summer the sun hit hard. I use the roof shields from July until end of August. Great video.

1. In Las Vegas, we use 3M 30% window for the side and rear windows and clear, heat rejection, UV protection tint on the windshield. 2. Cheaper just to install a Tesla removable roof sunshade, especially if you and your significant others likes to laydown in the back and watch the stars.

Living in a place like Las Vegas and being a Realtor that drives allot in the 100+ degrees tint is a must the first week you get the car. I have the tint and the screen for the summer months. Yes I think it looks better from the outside too but its helps big time.

I think the reason for the glass crack is due to cold nights and hot days. Living in the Los Angeles areas the temp are mostly moderate. In the Inland empire it's completely different, it gets hot in the summer with 100+ degrees on most days. With the tinting most places are fine. I had tint on one of my car for $100 and it never bubbles. Had that car for 10+ years always parked out in the sun.

NV resident, so I can understand what you mean about the heat. Prices have come down a bit in 2 years. I am getting my M3 tinted all around + the windshield for $600. That will be a one piece tint for the back window. I am watching videos to see what other Tesla owners used for their percentages. So far I like your percentages the most.

I had my Audi tinted all around.. including windshield. The windshield was always a touch fuzzy compared to no tint. Could not really notice it but I'm a bit OCD :D. I wont do it again because of that. The back glass was great until night when the tint over the heater lines caused something like a star effect from headlights. That was 35% ceramic tint. I'm getting the M3 done now.. no windshild.. side glass.. no back glass for now :)

feb 2022, seattle wa area. stek ceramic tint. 70 nex on windshield, 5 percent smart series strip on top of windshield. Nex 70 on sunroof. 15 percent smart series on sides and one piece back glass. $1100. Breakdown is 550 for sides and one piece rear. $300 for windshield, tint strip thrown in. $250 for sunroof. Just got it done today so can't tell you what I think yet

My installer said they see Model 3’s showing up for tint with cracks in the back window by the brake light from the factory. They send them back to Tesla for a replacement before tinting.

Thanks. Those are matte black stripes. Just a little DIY I did a while ago. I used VViViD Matte Black Vinyl Wrap. Also used knifeless tape to make the smaller stripe. Took 2 attempts. Kinda fun learning. Thanks for watching.

Now that summer is coming we will now do probably 50% in the rear for slightly more privacy and heat rejection. It's all about heat rejection wherever you live. @@Mizabeyta hi there! I did end up getting the ceramic tint on our Model Y Performmace. I live in the Sacramento area and used Genesis Window Tinting I. Elk Grove. They specialize in Teslas and did an amazing job! The tint brand we used is called Llumar Ceramic Tint. We did the windshield at 75% (clear ceramic for heat rejection), front driver/passenger 30%, back windows 50% and 75% on the roof. We didn’t want to disturb the great view out the sunroof so we opted not to tint but to add a layer of ceramic protection to deflect heat. It worked well but with the Valley heat, we added a roof mesh cover (just for the summer) and we don’t feel the heat at all! The sunroof mesh cover we have is from TParts and it’s amazing. Comes with suction cups and magnets that hold everything secure and in place. Hope this helps!

I’m also in CA. My buddies in law enforcement tell be that as long as they can see the driver they don’t care about tint on the front doors. No need to draw unwanted attention to yourself. I had Air 80 ceramic tint on my windshield on another car, but didn’t like the halo effect you get at night from lights and oncoming traffic headlights.

I just paid 600 out the door for the 4 door door windows, hatch, and windshield on my 23 Bolt EUV... all ceramic. The windshield was 200 of it. I live in AZ, and now way I went with the moonroof option..sun's bad, um kay.

Percentage only deals with darkness, not heat reduction. It’s still a big piece of glass facing the sun. Any reduction is better than nothing. Note: newer model Teslas do a better job from the factory than this 2019. Thanks for watching.

I have trouble at night with tinted drivers windows and often roll the window down to be safe when checking traffic is certain circumstances. Do you have any problem at night with the drivers side glass tint?

Love the detailed video. Quick question for you. Did you ever research 3M crystaline window tint? Apparently their tint reflects the heat outside instead of accumulating heat between the tint layer and the the glass. This sounds awesome for the roof tint. Curious if you did research on that and why did you choose ceramic which collects heat over the 3M crystaline which reflects it?

I didn't realize at the time of this video that I actually got 3M Crystaline IR (according to my receipt that I dusted off) I will say that even with this on my roof for a couple of summers now, it still gets pretty warm (not hot) compared with my Y without anything aftermarket on it, both are about the same now. So either there is a difference in 3 and Y, or 2019 and 2022 model cars. Thanks for watching.

Spoke to a 3M professional on the phone and he clarified a few things for me. 3M Crystalline is a different type of film from the 3M ceramic IR. Crystalline usually costs 1200 to do a whole car. You probably got the 3M ceramic IR which is what I was talking about earlier based on the pricing you told us in your video.

@@TeslaTipsTrips Thought so. There is a small potential of cracking with the ceramic IR if there's already a pre-existing manufacturing defect with the glass. Basically, what you said in your video. The installer is important too. There isn't a risk of overheating the glass and exposing the defect with crystalline but you pay for that ease of mind lol

The cracks happen from a difference in defroster heating, right? So the tint makes the window heat at different rates. If so, being in a warm climate, I wouldn't expect you guys to have a alot of that. Right?

My tint installer said it should never be an issue. We ‘visit’ the snow all the time using the defroster and haven’t seen an issue in over 3 years on our Model 3. I’ve heard some stories with extreme heat, but your luck may vary. Thanks for watching

My model 3 is so illegal in Connecticut. No front plate and 15% tint all around. I had windshield done too but in 2018 he couldn’t do the back in one piece. Tint rolls weren’t wide enough at the time. I only paid 250.00 cash but I was his UPS Driver so I’m sure I got a deal

Fact: I own 2 Tesla (X & S), I’m telling y’all to do NOT put tint on the SUNROOF, as it is already have very effective UV PROTECTION (and if those super hot temperature will be trap in it, then there’s a big possibility it will crack), as one of the known brand (XPEL) here in Austin already found out that only 3-4 BTU go pass that glass, period, The only glass y’all need to have a top of the line ceramic tint is the windshield (70.% - 80%), then 30% - 50% on all the windows glass, based on your state and what you’re comfortable with, especially on driving at night. Darker tint doesn’t mean it has better UV protection, as for years tint quality evolved that it doesn’t matter if it is light or very dark, as they have the same UV protection from sun. Please people, wake up! Most new Tesla owners has been duped by those tint shops who know nothing about it (or just taking advantage of those people). Have a great day to y’all!

3’s and Ys are different. 3 has far less heat rejection than the Y. I’ve had tint on my 3’s roof for 4 years in Los Angeles without an issue, leaving it in 100 degree sun. I don’t have it on my Y only to save some money. BTW starting every post with FACT doesn’t make it true.

@@TeslaTipsTrips It is TRUE, because even people of TESLA (Service Center & Factory) told us that they TESTED them with MORE advance machines. If you catch what I said, the NEW TESLA OWNERS, it means it's for NEW S, 3, X, Y. It's a "fact" because the people who KNOW the product itself swear it, and they proved it already and I met many tint specialists that had people who had sunroof cracks and whatnot, especially in the state of Nevada & Arizona. 5% at night is not great. Especially in less lit areas. It’s hard to see out. There’s been a few times I’d make turns on people crossing the street because I couldn’t see them. I use to do 5% with all my cars before and I stopped because of the visibility seeing out at night. I do 15% all around or 5% rear window only.

I won't lie, it's really dark, you need to really look out for headlights, and use your nav. I might go lighter next time myself.

I suppose that’s up to local law enforcement ultimately. Logically they should see your plate and realize. The tint in this video is less than legal in California and I’ve never been pulled over in 30+ years of similar tint. Your luck may vary of course. Excellent question!

The law in my state says that the tint needs more than 35% sunlight to shine through. Does that mean I can get a 65% tint?

Check with your tint shop, they have a device that can detect what amount is already in the glass (there is some stock) and then decide on the % tint you need. I did 5% in the rear, basically limo tint and it only lets 5% light though for instance. Most states allow tint behind the driver of any percentage. Thanks for watching!

It means you can get 35% tint. The number the tint is referred to as is the amount of light it allows through.

Question 🤔 why didn't you tint the roof 5 percent and go with 50 ? I live in Phoenix and when I get my Tesla I'm tinting the car and debating tinting the roof or use a sunshade. I never cared about sun roofs so I would go 5 percent on roof. Did you not want to because you were afraid that if you went with 5 then you wouldn't be able to see out the roof ? If that is the case it makes sense but I will go 5 percent all the way around.

Yeah, am pissed, I should have done the whole top part of the back. the tint guy said you want just half, I didn't know what he was talking about. I thought he meant the part above my head. So I said YES. Now when I drive I see that LINE. And my OCD bugs me. But I can probably find some old window tint and fix it myself just so the line isn't in my view. The funny thing, I drive with the cameras and hardly look at the rear mirror now.

Regarding your comment... "haven't been pulled over since the 80s" I hate to make it about race but this is what is often referred to as privilege. As a black person, I don't have that same level of comfort so went with the recommended tint that was legal in my state. I was pulled over while on foot in my "white" neighborhood while checking my mail lock box and having to prove I lived there. The officer said someone reported someone tampering with boxes. So they assumed it was me because I don't look like most people in my neighborhood. (Mind you, I had my mailbox key in hand and was opening the box) Stuff like that is hella traumatizing and I certainly considered it when tinting. Always felt like I'd be more likely to be pulled over than "other" people. Sorry for writing a mini book, but great video btw.
