Do You ACTUALLY Need to Rotate Your Tesla Model Y Tires?

I went one year without rotating my tires 23MY, sent in a service request home visit and when the tech came out he checked my tread depth and showed me all four tires wear the exact same, no signs of uneven wear so no need to rotate tires. 12K miles, so I guess I drive like Ms. Daisy

I had to change my 3rd set of tires at 19000 miles. I was told by Tesla that you can only rotate front to back and vice versa. Mine wasn’t performance model. My major problem was the rear knuckles needed replacing when broadsided about 5 weeks of when I bought the car. Worth checking with Tesla.

I have a 2021 Model Y with 50k miles. Even tread-wear at 10k, but I rotated. That was only time. Bought new tires at 45k with even tread-wear. (One tire found a nail or pro could've got another 2-4k). They had 40k warranty. Either way, "chill mode" + AWD for the win!

I rotate my tires every 5K. I got 45K miles out of my original stock set of tires on my 2023 Model 3 LR. I just purchased a new set of 80K mile rated Michelin Defender 2's which I have 5k on them already. The key to keeping tires longer is keeping the tire pressure correct and getting an alignment. I also check my tires regularly to stay on top of tread wear.

I rotated OEM tires once at 10k. I occasionally tow sail boats and uhaul trailers. I got 45k out of them; and would've gotten more had I not picked up a nail. IMO, the real key is modest driving.

Rear tires will wear more than front on all wheel drive, you have a performance model Y and when you leave those ICE cars in the dust at red lights the car applies more power to the rear as more weight and grip available. That Tesla grin we all have comes with a price.

Just did my first rotation on my Model Y long range myself which I've always done on my other vehicles. I just go front to backs. Don't want to look for trouble with reversing the rotation direction. Only little surprise is how wide and heavy each wheel is. Probably a good 50 lbs. From my experience its the outside of the fronts that wear the first due to cornering so by rotating it cuts down on the pace of the wear.

I've seen that this happens on the Performance model as the tires are cambered on purpose. The reason is that when you go hard around a turn, the weight shift of the car will shift the wheels slightly so now they are flat to the road, and that gives you the best traction and handling in the turn (which is why people buy a performance model). If you uncamber them, you won't get that performance handling feel.

Correct, your regular tire shop is fine. I have been with America's Tire a long time, so it's free for me since I always buy tires from them.

You saw the wear on mine, which I consider normal. So if you notice excessive wear, have an alignment done. Tesla does this, but is expensive. So call around to your local tire shops.

You need a full alignment not just rotation of the tires

Ok, but not needed every tire rotation. In fact, I've probably owned 20 cars, and have only done 1 alignment ever. And it wasn't one of my Teslas. Model 3 at 65k miles, Model Y at 52k miles.

So riddle me this: Went to the Tesla dealer 3 weeks ago to rotate tires having 9,000 miles, on 2023 MY Performance and was told “you don’t rotate tires on this model Y Performance. So they didn’t. Is there a difference between 2022 and 2023???? I am suspect but don’t know for certain…..

I have AWD... similar to performance in terms both are dual motor. I rotated once at 10k miles because I insisted on it. That was the last time. I replaced tires after 45k miles. (OEM tire warranty is for 40k). As long as tread wear is the same front back / left to right. no need to rotate. The point of tire rotation is try to even tread wear.
