My dad was a Semi Truck driver. He use to keep tools, grease, and that sort of thing in the side boxes. That frunk is probably large enough to carry a spare tire and maybe even a jack in it as well. Could be super handy space for a Semi Truck Driver. Calling the roadside support for Semi's is much more expensive than for cars.

The lug nuts on a semi are torqued to around 200 foot pounds. If you think you're going to change a flat tire on the roadside without the machinery a tire truck carries, think again.

You do realize you don't have to take the wheel off to fix the tire? You can knock the tire off the bead with a sledge hammer and pry it off with a long pry bar. It's actually a lot faster than you'd probably think.

Back to the main point of my comment. It can be used for tools and spare parts on the truck. Sometimes just having a tire with you for someone else to put on could be beneficial. What if the repair truck ran out of tires or didn't carry a specific one? Mayne you have specific needs. Let's not over think it though. It could be very beneficial to carry a spare tire.

The Ford F150 Lightning has a CCS charge port on the front left side, and there is a "dummy port" blank on the right side. That dummy port could be retrofitted to support NACS, and it would be on the correct side to use at Tesla Superchargers.

@@davidbeppler3032 - I don’t know where you read the $12/gal without subsidies, but it’s not true. We subsidize the discovery of oil, as well as militarily “protecting” the fields, but not production or refining, other than not making them pay for the damage done by producing it, refining it, and particularly burning it. Many European countries have taxes for these purposes, but they’re not high enough, particularly for the burning it portion. Edit: Also, of course taxing it to $10 or $20/gal would hurt big oil, because it would slash demand, as well as push people (and industry) to use other things instead.

@@davidbeppler3032 - Yes, it would hurt lower-mid income people who have chosen carbon-intensive professions and/or hobbies, at least in the short run. However, not only would I phase it in over 5-10 years to give them a chance to evolve their activities, I’d also fund a UBI with it. Edit: And, again, yes it would hurt the oil companies, because at that price, there would be far less demand for oil, so they would sell less of it.

The charging port on the Semi should be a CharIn Megawatt Charging Standard port which is specified up to 3.75MW. They may also have a secondary emergency slow charge port as a NACS or CCS. Fun fact, assuming a 1 MWh pack, a Semi charging from an MCS charger at 3MW is very close to the per cell charge rate of a Model 3 charging at 250kW.

RPC: Remote Procedure Call. When a computer program in one location calls a subroutine in another location. Efficient for number of lines of code but inefficient in execution if the subroutine is in/on another continent or datacenter or server.
@fdelacou
@fdelacou 2 жыл бұрын
I don't think that one RPC itself is a problem but the multiple calls have a tendency to create a lot of overhead with the same information repeated multiple times. It is usually better to reduce the number of calls, even if you are carrying more data in each response.
@marvinegreen
@marvinegreen 2 жыл бұрын
@@fdelacou You are right of course. Twitter was designed from the outset to facilitate very brief and succinct messaging. This type of design would call for minimalism in (probably) C++ with RPC routines cached locally. If Twitter is made to look and behave morel like KZbin then there will have to be some redesigning to accommodate longer more complex rendering of content. Excessive RPC calls may have been appropriate initially but no longer mesh with Elon's future plans for Twitter.
@HenryLoenwind
@HenryLoenwind 2 жыл бұрын
@@fdelacou One common design error with RPC I've seen quite often is that those are designed like local function calls. So few parameters and a single return value. This is just natural, as the whole narrative about RPC is that it IS just like a local function call. A nice idea in theory, but in practice the overhead added by the "remote" part matters. They probably have one RPC to get the date of a tweet, one to get the username of the tweeter and one to get the body of the tweet (if not from the app to the server then server-side between microservices). That's a perfectly valid design---at university. ;)

Watching that robot arm with the deep fryer just makes me think that a robot ARM is not the right answer but a redesigned automated deep fryer like those semi automatic mini donut machines would be FAR better.
@HenryLoenwind
@HenryLoenwind 2 жыл бұрын
In general that's true, but there are a number of caveats: - This is a retrofit system, not one for new installations. - The fryer needs a backup, so you'd need to install two independent fully-automatic fryers (or one and a normal station). The arm can just be switched off and a human can take over. - The arm has fewer parts that can break as all of them are on the arm and are shared between all motorised functions. An automated fryer would have actuators (either with their own motor or with clutches from a shared motor) for every single function---or be an "arm in a cupboard" anyway. And BTW, those donut-line fryers are not usable in a restaurant. They need independent basins for different foods, not one long shared basin for everything. And line fryers take up as much space as 4-6 basins. Space that's always at a premium. PS: Also, the arm is just "stage 1" of their product development. They are working on having the same arm take over other stations as well. And having one machine that can handle any station is better than designing and producing 6 or 10 different machines...

the boring company really just needs to focus on mining. It's very difficult to conceive of a more environmentally sensitive way to mine than TBMs, which are 100% electric and emissions free and don't require any land clearing or habitat destruction. And the muck that comes out of the tunnel is already ground up into fine bits, perfectly sized for chemical extraction of the lithium or cobalt or manganese or whatever other mineral you're trying to get out of the ore.

It would be interesting to see a price comparison between CHAdeMO and NACS. Without any significant influence, the cheap one will win.

the 110volt plug is standard in North America. there was patent on it but that ran out after short period of time. After that anybody could make it. The ordinal designer gets pennies for every 1000 units.

Standardizing will help things interconnect with one another, as well as make it easier to manufacturer them with limited selection on the field.

I'd expect most of the new Chinese EV coming to America to use the NACS charger. I can't imagine many companies new to the region would choose CCS over NACS. Hopefully this will make it easier/ force the larger companies to transition to the superior NACS plug.

Yeah, the KIA EV6, I had on order at a price in Australia, and without telling me upped the price to $87 and did not honor the original price, so now have ordered a Model Y, coming between Feb and May 2023. The reason why I went to KIA in the first place was because of the V2L capability and their 800v architecture. Waiting for Tesla to update to V2H or V2G.

Hold on a minute Bernie was right a standard unit of insulin analog costs on average $9.32 in non US OECD countries whereas it is basically $100.00 in the US.

Exactly. A missed opportunity to point this out. The USA health system is a mess thanks to greedy corporations in bed with politicians.

$100 for standard insulin is still less than those $250 for the advanced stuff. While $100 also is outrageous, it doesn't help one's argument to compare apples to oranges.

@@josephj6521 I agree with what you said, it's gone too far we pay by far the most for healthcare and are getting worse results than countries spending half as much per capita. People are more sick and going bankrupt over medical bills, it is an outrage to let disgusting greed dictate whether or not you get medical care.
@ironassbrown
@ironassbrown 2 жыл бұрын
@@HenryLoenwind If you look at all the varied insulins some of them are over $1700.00 per vial in the us, I am assuming that most people can use a less costly variant. The least expensive is about $65 per vial and some people can probably get by using it, but most people are probably in the middle somewhere closer to $275 per vial. The point is not to argue about whether or not we payed 275 or 100, it is the fact that in this one country we pay astronomically more than anywhere else for the same treatments. in 2018 it costs $2.75 in Turkey for an insulin treatment it costed $98.00 in the US for the same treatment. that is the problem we are wasting hundreds of billions of dollars every year and allowing people to die and go bankrupt just to make more profits for a company that already makes huge profits.
