The Tesla Valve is a one-way check valve that allows fluids to flow in one way but blocks them when they try to go the other way.
This device was patented in 1920 by Nikola Tesla, a famous inventor from the 20th century that was known for is ingenuity.
The design for the blue and white tesla valve featured in this video was created by one of my subscribers, Grav Inert.

So, a lot of people in the comments are annoyed because I didn't test the valves. The reason why I didn't test the valves in this video, is because the Tesla Valve only works properly in a specific setting with short pulses of high pressure. (That's the point made in the video) I still don't have the right setup to show the Tesla Valve in action but soon I will, so the best I can do for now is to invite you guys to stick around, the Tesla Turbine Pulse Jet Generator will be a great project.

@@charlesmitchard246 It can work, if tuned for the particular fluid, frequency, and pressure. My intuition says that the valve action would be stronger if the lobes varied in size. Also, the device will significantly impede flow in both directions, though by different amounts. It would be interesting to see what optimized versions look like, but not enough to get me to spend 4 weeks optimizing models.

If you search KZbin for working Tesla Valve you will find a couple videos showing one working-ish. If you define Q as forward/reverse flow, a measure of quality, you can find a video showing maybe two or three times the flow from a balloon going forward vs backwards. That would be a Q of 2 or 3. Some silicon diodes have a Q of more than a billion. The video that used "shrinky dinks" to make a micro-fluidics version did a little better than the balloon version.

a family member back in the day knew Mr. Tesla and in a conversation Tesla made a remarkable statement. The Tesla valve is a cut away of a next generation Tesla turbine. The inner channel dividers are actually rings attached to a central shaft ( modern equivalent turbine engine ). Its info passed down a while so how much truth is in this is to be questioned but, at a time when airplane props were brand new and rotary engines a dream it shows how ingenious he really was.

In high school in architectural drafting decades ago they taught us about how the smoke shelf in a residential brick fireplace works. It is a bit like single part Tesla Valve, in that a smoke shelf is located above the angled back wall of the fireplace. Part of the theory is that the arrangement of the throat near the smoke shelf acts along with the smoke chamber as a bit of a valve to keep a backdraft from a rogue gust of wind from blowing smoke the wrong way down the flue. This is all kinda codified by the complicated dimensions that the masons have developed over the years along with code officials for different sizes and shapes of fireplaces, all calculated and tabulated in sections and diagrams.

There are research papers on optimizing the design of the Tesla valve, but I didn't get the impression it only works in bursts, and there are youtube videos showing it works for fluids. Gases might be more difficult. There is something similar though I don't know the name. It also has no moving parts, but acts sort of like a transistor for fluids. It has an inlet and an outlet and a 3rd line which is able to modulate the flow. I think the Tesla valve is the same thing, except with the control line connected to the outlet. If you think about it this is a lot like a JFET constant current source.
@keantoken6433
@keantoken6433 4 жыл бұрын
Here is something similar to the hydrodynamic transistor I mentioned: www.researchgate.net/publication/301549718_Microfluidic_Valves_for_Flow_Control_at_Low_Reynolds_Numbers Here is the research paper on optimizing the Tesla valve: fluidsengineering.asmedigitalcollection.asme.org/article.aspx?articleid=1828374 You can see it as a cascade of hydrodynamic transistors with the control lines connected to one side of each transistor. In another sense, you are taking advantage of the fluid's momentum to cause it to sway sideways into the meandering path in the reverse direction, thus obstructing the short path. Therefore it is beneficial for the start and ends of the valves to run together so that sideways momentum is conserved into each consecutive valve. This design is not as good as it does not take advantage of the first loop momentum to force the stream into the next loop: www.researchgate.net/figure/elocity-field-of-a-tesla-valve-in-backward-direction-with-an-applied-pressure-of-6KPa-X_fig2_229035232 The flow obstruction begins at the last valve in the direction of flow and then cascades towards the source as the obstructed flow develops. Look at the flow charts and think about it.

I have the same idea in spirit. Use a vehicle turbo derived jet and a vehicle turbo behind it. Use the charge air the increase jet output and cool exhaust, and attach the shaft to a generator. Better yet oversize that turbo and have a compound setup to unlock incredible airflow rates required to power a massive centrifugal turbine, more suited for the kind of torque production necessary for a generator.

There already is an engine with no moving parts. It's called a ramjet air breathing engine. The only catch is that it requires another aircraft to bring it to speed before it can begin producing thrust, and it must remain at that speed or faster to keep producing thrust. The engine works when the aircraft is moving fast enough for the air to compress itself in the engine. It can do this because of the shape of the engine. All that's needed is a fuel spray and it can continue flying for as long as its fuel tanks last.

Great video! I know of these Tesla inventories, but I was not aware about how he intended them to work together. It looks like a great project. I have a high temp printer and some carbon fibre reinforced PEEK if you would like some parts made.
