This is a small featurette that talks about some of the equipment we used during the recording of our 'Live in the Studio' version of the 27 minute beast, 'Concealing Fate'. This special recording was co-produced by myself, Acle Kahney and Francesco Cameli. It was recorded and mixed in glorious 5.1 surround sound by Francesco Cameli at the prestigious Sphere Studios, and then mastered by Andrew 'Hippy' Baldwin at Metropolis Studios during December 2010. It can be found on the special edition version of our debut album 'ONE', released via Century Media Records.

@adistantcalm I don't mind at all. On stage we Acle and James use Axe FX to go straight to FOH. But thats only for clean tones and lead lines. The rhythm signal goes to an onstage amp (6505 in North America, and Mesa in Europe), which then goes through a Mesa cab and then to the FOH.

Your bass playing and rig just sounds so good. It's all natural and crisp yet warm and bassy. You should do a few more instrumental playthroughs because I can't get enough of your bass sound. You also have an awesome accent hahah.

You manage to have a nice tone live (I saw you in Philadelphia on the 10th, fantastic show!) and in the studio as well. Love the slap grooves, man!

@thericecrispy2 TesseracT only really needs 4 strings, but all my basses are 5's. However, I hate carrying around different basses for different tunings. So, I decided to have both tunings that TesseracT use on one bass. The really cool thing about this is that it gives the same low notes but with totally different tones. One, far rounder and fuller (so great for finger style), and the second, shorter and more suited for slap style. The tuning is crazy: Ab, Bb, F, Bb, Eb.

Hi, I use D'Addario long scale .145, .130, .110, .80, .45 - you have to buy the .145 separately - code: XB145TSL . Plus it's tapered to fit nicely on the Warwick bridge.

@blindsidedka the bass is nearly always all at 0 on the EQ, no boost or cut. I tend to use the middle position which is a blend of the bridge and neck pick up.

@cyanidesicky So long as I can a semi-hollow one like I use in the US. I'd gladly have one of those. The sound is awesome. And they are so versatile. Its like having 3 basses in one. Two electrics and one acoustic. Crazy. Check out the INFINITY TN. Bad ass!

@manankapoor81193 Since his bass tuning looks just like Dick Lovgren's of meshuggah id say its an Ab (G#) He tunes his four high strings up a step and then the B down a step so its in drop D format.
@ForTiorIJohnny
@ForTiorIJohnny 12 жыл бұрын
if that´s a 34" scale bass what gauge do you use for the Ab string?
@MosTesseract
@MosTesseract 12 жыл бұрын
@MojoJojo378 No, its a 34". I'll be honest though. The songs in Ab and F# would suit a 35" better.
@MosTesseract
@MosTesseract 12 жыл бұрын
@MojoJojo378 I think Dick from Meshuggah uses a 35" scale Warwick. But, that may be one of the expensive basses you mentioned.

@MosTesseract damn, i thought so. i´m currently looking for a good bass for djent but it´s hard to find a good 35" bass here in germany. they are either too expensive or too cheap. it´s weird.

@MosTesseract Could you explain that tuning a little bit more? It would be Drop Bb (Bb0 I'm guessing, unless you go up to Bb1...) and then the fifth string just a step below the fourth, right?

Could you please explain a bit how you EQ the bass itself, if any at all? Do you go series/parallel, do you lean more towards the neck pickup etc. What's the settings? Cheers!
