We take a closer look at two great backpacks that I've used for many adventures, I talk about when and for what adventures I use them! hope you enjoy!
Abisko 75
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Abisko 75 from Fjällräven is a simple, light, trekking backpack with comfortable, adjustable carrying system adapted. Slim silhouette, spacious main compartment and several pockets.
Simple, light backpack for trekkers, backcountry skiers and travellers who like to move about without too much weight. Now with a new, more stable carrying system and new, even stronger polyamide fabric.
The back panel has been updated for better air circulation and the hipbelt has a new design that gives even better support.
Pre-shaped, solid base that gives stability when you place it on the ground.
Keb 72
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Ergonomic robust backpack for year-round use. It has Fjällräven’s award-winning wooden frame and durable, sustainable materials that will last for many years of adventures in rough terrain. Slim profile gives freedom of movement and its well-planned compartments make it easy to organize gear - like the front pocket that has space for reinforcement layers or a small shovel. The carrying system is designed to distribute heavy loads and can easily be adjusted to suit different back lengths.

It is nice to see a durable, high volume pack reviewed - it seems ultralight is dominating backpacking these days. I am a much taller than average guy, so the gear and food I need to put in a pack won’t fit or be comfortably carried in a lightweight 50 litre pack. Looking forward to the next one 👍

Both are great looking packs. I really like the way that the Abisko 75 opens up completely, but I think that I would prefer the Keb 72 overall. On an unrelated note, am I the only one who has noticed that yt videos are getting shorter? I would actually prefer longer videos if it meant that I could get more info and a better look at the subject matter, but that's just me. Thanks for sharing and keep up the good work my friend.

@@TedWeirum Saw that you took the Keb72 on your 1,000km journey and I was wondering in my head why not the Kajka75. I would really like to see you compare Keb72 and Kajka75 as the two big hauler models (that are still available for sale, lol). I have a Gregory Baltoro75 bag for long hauls and winter overnights, but I'm considering swapping it out with a Fjallraven pack after picking up the Keb52 and falling in love with it. The quality and durability are simply unmatched.

Keep it up! :)

Been uting keb72 for a few years. If you are a "narrow/skinny" person the keb 72 fits really good. Due to its narrow profile. Also if you go on winter adventure and use skis, its really comfortable because its narrow profile helps keeping balance, and dosent get in the way of the ski-poles / trekking poles. Best pack ive ever owned. Still good as new (except the smell of bonfire). Oh, and due to its fitting so well, the weight of the pack dosent feel like an issue. I recommend Always trying in store if possible. Regardless of features, fit is really important for long trips.

Let's work on that algorithm. I've got the Keb52, I think I might size up? Both of those look great. For me the 72L might to large? I'm just a wealth of indecision. What really wish the Keb52 had is the elastic cord webbing on the back and straps on the sides to hold stuff.
@GetUpTheMountains

Just because it has a 72L capacity doesn't mean you need to fill it full. You can put 60L of gear in there and be just fine. 👍

I had an Abisko 65, sold it and now have a Keb 72. The main difference for me was that the back length for Abisko can not be adjusted as much as in the Keb with the wooden frame. Abisko is a great pack also but the back length could not be shortened enough for me (I’m 178cm). So always fit the pack on yourself with weight before you buy!

Servus Ted, greetings from good old Vienna. Thanks a lot for your outdoor comparison videos, where you „talk to yourself“. :-) I love them. I have a question: How would this comparison go, if you‘d compare you beloved Keb 72 with the Kaika. I need a new backpack and I was thinking about getting the Kaika. What‘s your take on these two? Could you even do a video comparison? Kind regards Stefan

Wild, they don't even sell the "Abisko 75" in the US. Is it the Abisko "Friluft"? That full front opening feature that is on Abikso and Kajka is a must for me. All of my Gregory backpacks have it, and its a huge deciding factor when I look at a pack to buy. They need to add that shit to the Keb 52 and 72.

Hi Ted, that was the point I was trying to make that people need to pay attention to what they need, not so much reviewers like the gear. I still like the K52 as a mange with it. Although a bigger one might have made more sense to me; I’m not a minimalist packer.

Having a hard time deciding between the 52 and 72 KEB! Mostly would be using it for three season overnighters and up to four days out. In the winter mainly overnighters and rarely some weekend trips. I'm from Finland so the winters get cold and my stuff is not ultralight though I sleep in a hammock. Just wondering that the 52 would maybe be pushing it for the winter and then again the 72 is overkill for rest of the year? Thanks! ❤

Hi Ted, which rucksack would you say is better for solo trekking with tent and all: Keb 72l or Kajka 75l? I have got a hunch that Keb is the more versatile of the two while aslo being lighter. In Kajka, I think 75l denotes the main comprartment only, with those huge side pockets I think one can fit another 10-15l or am I wrong?

Just a warning to anyone thinking of getting their hands on a Abisko 65 or 75 at this stage (which might be hard since I think they took it out of production) - the seams on the shoulder straps tend to break after a while, turning the entire backpack practically unusable. Happened to me after just a couple short trips, and heard lots of similar experiences. At least be careful to not carry the backpack longer than necessary in just one strap

I tend to judge backpacks by how they carry, by that I mean which feels lighter and more comfortable with say the same weight inside. My own Keb 72 is amazing and carry’s better than my Granite Gear packs which are nearly a third the weight! Only my Osprey AG65carries better and only by a small margin but its not as tough. Would be nice to judge these packs with a standard load exclusive of actual pack weight.
