In 1972 my dad paid 3k for a brand new Super Beetle. I saw that shift pattern on your vid and it brought me back to 1976. Thank you for showcasing that Beetle. I enjoy your vids and test drive. Well done bud!

We had an older couple that drove a red beetle back in the day. One time sticks in my memory. They had a knob on the steering wheel. Coming out of an icy parking lot uphill onto Main Street, he gunned it to get traction. Lifted the thing off the ground, and as they hit clear pavement, he grabbed hold of the knob and made a sharp left, tires squealing as they drove off. They were in their 80s. Funniest thing I ever saw.😂

I would like you to know that you got a steal for this VW today. OK lets go, she was mid line of 71 & 72, but that's not the way she was born # 1 the spare tire worked the window washer for the next 3 years, and that is were it got pressure to work the window washer of that day. For this Bug has been customized of the day. # 2 the rear lights on a 71 were smaller that a 72 and then came 73 the lights were larger and more easy to see. For I boult a new 73 for 1500 hundred, but when my old man saw me drop a 911 Porcha and a 5 speed in it, then it had blown him away. For I left in late 73 for Nam at the time. For I did not retune home until 1980 with 4 bitter conflicts under my hide of the day. For that was not of the years that I had left to go. But Maple Motors has a real steal for this Bug today. For up here around Maryland and DC this Bug sells for a good Bug at 19 to 25 K today and that is no lie today. For 25 in the city and 35 on the highway. For they were always know as the peoples car of the day. For I have rebuilt many of them and they are still a great car today.

Looks nice. I drove one of these when l lived in Germany a couple of decades ago so not sure why all the enthusiasm? It didn't do anything well. Was slow, couldn't stop, didn't handle, wasn't good in snow, sand, or mud (though was easy to push), parts were expensive (even in Germany), loud, everything rattled, prone to rust, not safe, no leg room/trunk space, plus it was very cold natured, and didn't even get that great of gas mileage compared to other compact cars. One of these as a dune buggy/sand rail - yes, I get that - but as a daily I'd much rather have an older Golf GTI or Audi then one of these.
@brianw89634 күн бұрын
Don’t go good in snow? They do better in the snow than any other rear wheel drive ever made. Not quite fair to compare to front wheel drive. They were designed for affordability and simplicity and more of them were sold than any other car in history. To compare them to modern cars is redundant.
@bfd1944 күн бұрын
@@brianw8963 If you say so. As mentioned I drove one for over 3 years in Germany, wouldn't dare drive it in snow/icy conditions without chains. Would much prefer an AWD Audi but even the couple of other VW's I had (a Golf and a Golf GTI) handled much better in the snow particularly stopping.

It's getting harder to find them bug's in good condition..!!!! Does that one have a gas heater since it's air cooling.?
@brianw89634 күн бұрын
No, it does not. Most think the heater systems don’t work, but they work well if everything is correct, which is usually not the case.
@ClemisLilly4 күн бұрын
@brianw8963 I sure there not liquid cooled and the heaters were. Gas or electric so I thought. !!!!
@brianw89634 күн бұрын
@ They are air cooled but have what is called “ heater boxes” on the exhaust headers. A fan on the engine shroud driven from the rear of the generator circulates the heated air into the interior of the vehicle . They actually did have optional gasoline heaters that worked just like a fuel oil furnace and were mounted to what would be considered the firewall on regular vehicles, but they were problematic, and a bit dangerous to say the least.
