For those not "in the know" 442 is not an engine size. It means 4 barrel carb, 4 speed automatic, dual (2) exhaust.

It has meant a couple of things over the years: 400, 4barrel,dual exhaust, 4 SPEED, 4barrel, dual exhaust.

Back in the sixties some police cars had a 442 package. I believe it was in 1965 . I have an old car book showing this option on a police car. Strange option for the police. 😊

The cutlass was the best looking grand nationals are sweet too but they were unobtainable for a high school kid back then , unless u came from money..the Monte ss and reg Monte were sweet too. Grand prix’s we’re nice looking as well basically all g-bodies…the iroc-z’s we’re awesome the trans ams , the formula firebirds too.gm had so many winners back then, they weren’t fast but they looked good

I love the fact that the 442 was a trim package on the Cutlass that after some time became its own model. It's just sad they don't make them anymore. My grandmother had one and her only complaint about it was it was too fast😂😂😂😂

Real nice condition. Classy paint color. Only thing I could do without are the t-tops. I only had one car with t-tops. An 86 Firebird. Those t-tops were a little cumbersome to remove and store in the truck.

she has my favorite GM O/D transmission, a 200 4R in my 45-year professional transmission rebuilding Career i have built more than a plenty of them. the good part is they all have a multi pattern bell housing and will bolt to any GM engine. i have one in my beautiful 86 monte carlo SS,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Those tachs are notorious for reading high. There are replacement circuit boards for the tach now.

Few and far in-between. For the 80's. Trans and we're still around, z28, ford's yuck, mustangs overheated. Chrysler and Dodge had what, the conquest and they had a small 4- banger that had a turbo and weird twin shifter. I am not forgetting the obvious cars. GN and t-type

Nice Cutlass 442 definitely needs work and it's not worth 19,000 needs paint work noticed a little oil leak underneath new vices fix the passenger mirror cable and is that the original motor and what was the mileage

Has a lot of chips in the paint.. Wrong reverse lights and tail lights. Love how he shows the miles making it sound like they could be original. LOL.. My 87 442 is way cleaner than that. I'm the original owner..

Sweet car. Noticed in the drive over that the bottom will never rust out because it has the GM Protection Plan, oil covering the entire underside out to the bumpers. I’d jerk that 305 out and drop in a $3K Goodwrench crate 350 and twist it up so the T-Tops would pop out.

Always wanted to swap a L98 350 TPI in one of these! Use to see one on Gratiot Ave in Detroit, license plate read, "Dr. Olds" it couldn't keep up with buddies 5.0., but it had that ;look like I'm gonna whoop Y'all! Good Times in '80's Detroit!

This car, brand new in 1986, was $7,500. $7,500 was a lot of cash in '86. This car sells used for more than it was when it was new.

@rogercoop1489 at 14k or 15k wouldn't that not be too affordable in 87 as wages were like $3 an hour. I seen an old commercial from 86 it advertised that price or very close to it. Things seemed cheaper then but the wages were so low as well. I remember the Trans am was a bit priceir then, as I had a friend who had one.

@@Malte-MichaI looked it up and the base price of a 87 442 was between $13,000 - $14,000 , a car with all the option ( which I bought) was around $17, 000. Not sure where you got the $3 hr but I was making $10 hr and worked for a company that worked a lot of overtime. The article also showed that in 1986 a regular Olds Cutlass was between $11000 - $13000.

@rogercoop1489 minimum wage in USA in 95 was 5.75. So what was the wage in 87? Definitely less than 5.75 Per hour. Unless you had a degree. I was too young to work in 80s so I'm not sure what the wage was but it want much.

There were jobs that paid more than minimum wage. I was just a factory worker on a assembly line that made parts for the Nissan car factory in Smyrna Tennessee. I made $10 hr and worked tons of overtime. The minimum wage now is only like $7.75 but a good job will pay two or three times that.
