So sad that you had to let her go but at least she's still in Canada and hopefully has an owner that takes good care of her. These are starting to catch up with the prices of Skylines of the same era. Hoping to find a clean one myself in the near future. Cheers from Calgary!

Looking to buy an e30 in the next couple months! Any tips you can give me on getting the most reliable e30 as in what I’ll need or what to look out for ! Thanks

Victor Hernandez Biggest concern may be rust depending on where you live (ask me how I know). Notable areas include front sills, rockers and battery tray. As far as engines are concerned they're pretty reliable if they've been maintained or if you put a pile of time/money into them. The M20 (325e/i) motor can be a victim of a timing belt failure and as a result bent valves so watch out for that. If you do buy an M20 your first action regardless of its history should be oil/plugs/filters, a water pump, valve adjustment and new timing belt. If you find a M42 (91' 318i/s) these engines are very potent for their size/age but are pretty clapped out by 200k unlike the M20 which can soldier on. But if you do buy one be weary of a noisy valve train which will need a cyl. head rebuild. An M10 (84-85 318i) powered car is the most anemic of the lot but hey it's an E30. They only feel underpowered if you've driven the others, that said the M10 is very reliable they may need a valve adjustment or new injectors if noisy and the occasional head gasket. You may also come across tired gear boxes in need of new 2nd gear synchros but that's part of the charm. Aside from that the youngest E30's are damn near 30 now so bushings/rubber hoses/any brake parts are in need of replacement by now. Do yourself a favour and have another daily driver until the E30 is solid, after that you won't want to drive anything else. Good luck on your search and thanks for keeping a bygone era of motoring alive. Jon
