Test Drive: 2002 BMW 525i

In this video I give a full in depth review and test drive of a 2002 BMW 525i. I take viewers on a close look through the interior and exterior of this car while showing details, over viewing of features, and noting unique styling cues to the vehicle itself. I show the car idling and the exhaust note as well as take it on a thorough test drive through the city and highway. A through review of this car designed to give others a greater overall appreciation of the vehicle.

That car is one of my favorite BMW. My cousin had one in white, and personally I loved that car, even the smell of leather and wood, along with the seat comfort and handling. I have very fond memories of that car.

I watched this video probably like 1000 times few years ago, when my dad sold the 523i... i was really sad and upset, i liked that car so much.. I loved to watch your video becouse of the sound experience, you can hear most of the "interrior noises" of the e39, engine... it's some sort of "ASMR" 👍 Now i have my own e39 for more than 2 years and i really love it, i tried to drive so many newer and "better" cars, but e39 really has something special that you can't find in any other car 👍

Kyle thank you so much for this video... when I was little my dad had a '92 BMW 325is, black on black. He rolled/totaled it a few years back... what a devastation. I have a 2003 525d auto. I was very impressed just how economical this awesome car is, especially given the performance it delivers. The E39 is definitely one of the best BMWs up to date - superb build quality, excellent handling, comfortable ride, flawless interior. Bought mine for less than 7,000 Euros and i think it's a bargain. Maintenance costs are a bit high, but they are definitely worth it. Just fantastic car!!!

I leased this same model from 2002-2005. It was an excellent car in all ways, except for the standard drivers seat which mine came with. It had no lumbar adjustment and was very uncomfortable on long trips. also had a bad resistor (or something) in the heater fan circuit that caused the battery to run down. Took dealer 2 tries to find it. 2.5 engine was superb.

I've got 98 BMW E39 528i with manual gearbox! It's really comfortable car even with 17 inch rims. Mine ise a extra little bit quieter than most, cause it has double paned side windows. it's a really great car even tough it has many issiues. But after the vanos rebuild the engine is like new, very powerful. Like this car very much

@TheMrkiddi Because it temporarily unlocks itself from the steering rod on the steering axle so you can move the wheel back and forth or up and down thats why when you set it to the position you want you hear a click because it clicks back into place. Our windstar is set up like that.

Nice car you've got there. Looking for a E39 when I get old enough, but it won't be anything like that as I live in Norway. To show you how high the prices are I found a similar 520i (170hp and 210nm unlike the 192hp and 245nm found in your car) right now for for $28 545. It was the cheapest saloon with an automatic from 2002 with less than 180000km on the clock on the biggest used car site here. Nice to see what it looks like in action and man is that engine quiet!

@dier2tte Spot on, only the 540i and the M5 have a six speed manual transmission. The auto was an option on all models, always a 5 speed. I have a 1998 automatic 535i.

@dier2tte this is a 525 with an automatic. not the whole 5 series came in a manual. the m5 always did. the 540i came in automatic too. it was the 540i with m-sport package with the stick.

I own a 07 manual mustang gr350 twin turbo and a 99 540i turbo automatic, and I take the BMW out more for the fact that I'm more relaxed in the car. I don't have to worry about the clutch. And if I came across someone on a highway that's being a dick. I just drop it into manual mode. There is a little difference but I'm not complaining. This car is perfect for someone that plays both sides, sport and luxury.

That applies for every german sporty sedan ;) A friend of mine has an A4, and i don't like it. Go for an A5 for sportyness and for an A7 for the better looks. If you have the money to spare take the S5/S7 :)

@JungleListSoldier i've got the touring one, no the orange gauges arent hard on the eyes at night if you lower the "light strength" wich is located to the left of the steering wheel, behind it, next to where you turn on your lights. Anyways if u have it on the highest strenght it can get hard to drive since ur eyes fall on it easilly, but if u lower it as i said its really comfortable for the eyes, the smooth orange light is really nice to your eyes :) (sorry for bad english im from sweden)

I got a 1999 BMW M-528i Touring. Same on the inside. Only the controls on the roof are only the sunroof controls. And mine has a sport steering wheel.

Very true sir! I have a 525i M-Sport with the manual gearbox and I can get 10-15 more mpg than the auto equivalent with careful driving - also the driving experience is so much more engaging and enjoyable with a manual gearbox - as far as I'm concerned it would be such a waste to have a car as beautifully engineered as the E39 5 series and not be able to enjoy gear changing!

@BiGPiMPiN591 All bimmers, E39 model, came with manual gearbox . ( 520 d - 530 d, 520i - 540 i and the M5 ) Gearbox has 5 or 6 speed . Usually e39 525i model comes with5 speed manual. Cheers ! :)

The car looks pretty potent when you drive it hard but around town its so groany in this video due to the M50 2.5 litre engine having no real low down torque compared to the 2.8... It really is an engine better suited to a manual box and the E36 shape.
