I'm a 70 YO, retired , Resurrected "drummer", who picked them up again after 50 years (1969). I have become so much more educated about Drum Heads and Tuning (which still Eludes me). I have a PDP Concept Maple Kit & a Nickel over Brass DW Design series 14 X 6.5 Snare, and have tried different Batter heads on the Toms. I have settled ona Evans HD Dry Snare batter head. I just can't Get What I Want (sorry Stones), out of the Tom sound. I was using Evans G2s Coated on the Toms (8, 10, 12 rack Toms & 14 & 16 Floor Toms). I keep tweaking the Tuning almost to an Obessive level. I switched the 12 and the 16 Tom to EC2s Clear (I had them lying around from trying them on a Cheapo Gammomn kit that i gave to my 5 year old Grandson). I find it sooo difficult to get that Sweet compromise sound of Punchiness with low Overtomnes(ringing). I've watched numerous videos on Tuning Toms, but still find it difficult to Get There. I don't play Gigs (hell, I'm happy that I can play at all with lots of arthritis), just play To My Music about an 1 hour a day. I see that you are not using any condiments (Moon gels, etc.) on the Toms or Snare. Any Advice out there?? PS: I selected the Evans G2 coatd heads per the advice from my Drum Store ( I replaced the stock Remo heads on all the drums), who said that those were Warmer and more suitable to Maple kits.

Hi what’s your bottom drumheads ? Did you tune them also ?
@Chiroman5272 жыл бұрын
@@ledech666 I have been using the stock Remo clears that came with the drums. I believe they are single ply Ambassadors made by Remo. Yes I have been tuning them as well. That's what makes this maddening to me. I know that various YT videos playing drums that are micced up, so the overtone ringing is electronically muffled. Am I right ?

I added a small piece of Gatt tape to the reso heads - that seemed to improve the sound using the EC2s Clear. However, the 10" tom sounds better than the 12 " tom. The 12 " Tom can sound almost too Plasticky? If that's a word..

I Find that to the naked ear drums sound a lot worse than any miced up tom. Also the time wake up on stage. In bigger rooms. And in the mix of the whole band they are better The room where I practice my DW Design kit sounds dead. Not to mention my snare. A Sonor Benny greb. It dies in that small shed. But in other rooms the drums a totally amazing.

I've been thinking of getting Clear G2s Tom Heads but I kinda like the sound of the the EC2S Tom Heads. It's a tough decision.

bonjour quelle difference y a t'il entre les EC2 et les EC2S?
@ledech6663 жыл бұрын

In real room sound the harder I hit these heads i get a slappy plastic sound from these heads instead of the full note. Have you noticed this with these heads?
@No_Transitory4 жыл бұрын
This heads do no such thing if tuned properly and have decently tuned reso heads. Not sure what you were hearing or the circumstances of which you heard that, but before this whole covid crap I played shows and was at shows playing local bars and anyone with clear or frosted ec2’s with some 2 ply reso setup had plenty of tone and attack. Ec2’s are some great batter heads played by many bro
