Test Firing the Evaporator Arch

Hey folks, today we're pulling out the arch and the new boiling pan and doing a test fire to see how well things work!

So what I did, and should’ve said in the video, is I flipped it upside down so the bow is going up. So far that’s actually holding up decently.

Good job Josh I am building a evaporator too but I am going with the rocket stove concept actually more like a batch box. If it works like i hope I will clean it up and stay with it! Your early taping we get going up here in Canada around middle of March. I am in NB near Maine

Good first go! I'm trying to think back...I think that is the only non rust colored metal you have ever brought to the farm 😁🤣 I used to have the around 3 foot diameter cast iron cauldron my grandfather boiled sap in but somebody (as a kid) wanted to know how many rounds from a .22 the bottom could withstand and once it had a gaping hole in the bottom it got turned into a firepit, oh well, live and learn.

@@LandisLegacyFarm Oh yeah, I did forget that. I don't remember...I think there were three of us, 2 with ruger 10/22's and one with a remington nylon66 and I'm pretty sure we had to reload at least once 😁

Just like you planned on creating that nice arched fire grate! How does the ash pan filling up affect your burn?

Exactly to plan! So far that hasn’t been an issue. I think the blower is helping to evacuate some of the ash out the stovepipe.

Quite the effort to have a pancake instead of mush every morning. I prefer the peanut butter and jelly on mine with just a tad of surap on the top one to hold my eggs in the middle. Gets all the yoke from the over easy egg and besides, I am lazy and just shovel food into my mouth. Now days breakfast might only be a piece of toast, but at seventy four, just don't need the fuel anymore. At your age, dad said it was cheaper to board me at three houses than to feed me at home. I am a sick and tired old man, old before my time really. But now I understand how the body burns calories a tad better. Plus when your age, I could eat a five pound roast and lose a pound doing/eating a meal ..... that said, now if I walk by some dry cerial and hold my breath while just walking by, I gain a pound thinking of eating..... take care friend. Not into the shorts as no place to comment... and I talk too much
