Today I test a cordless air compressor by No Name Brand. This compressor can be used with any airbrush. It's a very high quality product for sure. It turns itself on and off when you activate your airbrush. I test out several different airbrushes and several different paints. Awesome results for sure.

In at 10min mark, that vibration it does is actually to remind you it is still switched on. Because it has the auto switch it is easy to forget to turn off the compressor when you're done painting, so it does a regular small vibration as a reminder. It's in the manual BTW.

For 98% of my airbrush work I use the model from Green Stuff World and I am absolutely delighted and satisfied. I use 3 different airbrushes (0.2 / 0.4 / 0.5 needle) with no problems. I also have a water separator and quick release attached. Great product!

I have basically the same thing. I love it. I just wish it had a raised ring around the button to prevent accidental turn ons. I think it turned on accidentally when I put all my stuff in the box I use when I do use it inside for over spray catches. I do have a normal compressor coming though. I do love that it is quiet. I do not find this little compressor to be annoying during use.

Looks interesting, but I would need to see the max psi, and confirm it works with a regulator at various settings.
@jenniferwhitewolf3784
@jenniferwhitewolf3784 2 жыл бұрын
My too. I often use my Iwata at 15 or 18 PSI, never over 20. My 1950s Thayer & Chandler AA with the finest photo retouching needle & tip never goes over 15psi. Some brushes need higher pressure to atomize.. mine do not. I would probably need to run my regulator. We have a large shop compressor that I have to run a long hose from, at about 90, then use a regulator at the airbrush desk. I would LOVE to have a light quiet and portable air source like this.. but I want to know the static air pressure, and the pressure running a .5 wide open.

That is really cool. I had no idea a small battery powered compressor like that could push that much air. I'm in the market for a new compressor myself currently, and had pretty much settled on getting the Makita 2 Gallon Quiet series model, but after seeing this I may put that off for a bit. I don't do a lot of airbrushing, mostly just priming and highlights on warhammer and D&D minis, but I got a nice Grex airbrush with interchangeable needles so I can dial it to the paint and PSI I'm working with. This compressor might just work out perfectly, and the portability is great too. Awesome review, much appreciated. :)

Started looking for this in the UK and found a kit with what looks to be the same compressor (though a good $15 more than the same kit in the US lol). One thing I noticed and thought I'd bring up is that in the description of this kit it states "And it is not recommended to use it while charging, because it will affect the service life." @@barbatosrex9473 Finally got it after a bit of a fuss. The first never arrived - refund, the second never dispatched - refund, the third arrived the day after I finished brush painting the thing I bought the compressor for... That said, I got it at about half the cost it would have cost over here from Amazon/hobby stores so probably worth it. Just tried priming a couple of miniatures in Molotow acrylic paint with a white ink zenithal and overall I really liked it. Slower to apply than a spray can but dries faster and will save me money in the long-run. It's also very light coats which can be a positive for details. Kept a bottle of hot water and some acetone next to me as per your tutorials for cleaning so very quickly had some miniatures done and the airbrush pristine :) I'm not sure what to expect from the pressure but it seemed sufficient. Next test is using the slightly better airbrush gun I bought separately that has the little pressure adjuster thing on it.

I bought a ps290 0.5 trigger type and my compressor isn't able to handle it, so I'm looking for something better. Of course I found a big compressors (big comparing to modelling mini compressors) 12L tank and 8Bar stable with 10Bar max power. So it would be the best way out. But one problem, it is heavy, +-18kg and takes place as 27"-32" monitor. Now I see this video with this little boy, I'll check it and maybe get one for myself

Something you should be wary of is the duty cycle of cheaper compressors. I have an expensive oil compressor and it has a duty cycle of only 50% meaning that in one hour time, the motor should only run 30 min. With a larger air tank this is less of a problem. I imagine this number gets much worse the cheaper you go.

DO YOU KNOW ANYONE THAT USES PLEDGE FLOOR GLOSS REVIVE IT TO USE AS A INDOOR FINISH OF PAINTED WOOD PROJECTS
@jenniferwhitewolf3784
@jenniferwhitewolf3784 2 жыл бұрын
Yes... and I am out of it now. We have even used "Future" as far back as the early 70s on full size show cars, long long before the modern clear coats. It is also a fine gloss sealer protectant on finished wood, as long as the underlying finish is very well cured. In model railroad making, its a great gloss surface to apply decals too. ... and its the best 'dip' ever for clear plastic windows or canopies to make it look like glass. The only problem is buying it. Most places that sold 'Future' no longer carry the 'Pledge Revive Gloss' rebrand of the clear floor coating.. It is even difficult to get reliably online. I need some like right now... and the last place I ordered from via Amazon just lied and lied about shipping, shipping to wrong address, back ordered, etc, and just returned my money after 7 weeks. I hate suppliers that lie. 7 weeks later I'm still needing product, and really wishing a local store would stock it.

After all the testing you have done, what is your favorite gloss black base for chromes? I know you have probably mentioned it at some point, but I can't recall. Thanks!

I've used several at this point. To pick I would say Alclad Gloss Black Base for airbrushing and Tamiya Gloss Black spray cans which is what you saw here in this video

Curious, is there a particular airbrush that you'd recommend for this? Or from your testing do you really think any would do? Also thanks for covering this! I stumbled upon it myself a few weeks ago but couldn't find anything reliable on it!

Any airbrush should work fine. The Badger says in the manual to set your PSI to 15 which is what I do so that said I would say the Badger.

Know this is kind of late but how is the coverage for HG size gunpla pieces and how has this held up over time? Been looking to start airbrushing my HG but the investment and my living spaces may not be ideal for bigger setups so been trying to look more into these portable kits.

In the 1:1 car world, some painters are using tintable primer to dial in the color coat better. I thought of this looking at the bottled Mission Kiwi which did not turn out as "Limey" on the spoons. Is there something similar for model use? Maybe with inks or powders? What do you think? That compressor is interesting.
