Test Ride and Review HUSQVARNA Svartvilen 701 Why did they Discontinue this Bike?

Went to Clawson Motorsports in Fresno Today to check out the now discontinued for 2022 Husqvarna Svartvilen 701. I was intrigued by this motorcycle and its unique design. it's a sleek and small powerful beast with the largest single cylinder motorcycle engine in production 693CC! Husqvarna is a Swedish company originally but it is now owned my Austrian Motor Co KTM. This bike actually shares the same motor as the KTM Duke. It's really a far cry from my Harley Davidson Softail.

I purchased both as well, bought a 2018 401 for my son and liked it so much I purchased a 2020 701. Both are a blast to ride being so light weight and a good amount of torque to play with. Each has a bit different character in my opinion.

@@Zakori depends on type of riding. 401 is amazing in city riding and suburban roads and twisties. 701 is fine for city but it definitely likes to open up a lot more. For any beginner 401 is the best. 701 I'd say is less than ideal to learn on for most people

@@TheRealKazmir so if I were say on a 125 and were looking at doing my unrestricted license (I turn 24 soon) would the 701 be too much of a jump in your opinion ?

@@Zakori I mean from a 125 to 701 its gonna be a completely different experience. Not to say it can't be done but you would honestly probably enjoy the 401 more.

I call them "HUSKIES". I really like the appearance of these bikes, especially the 401, but I don't know if that is enough displacement to satisfy. The last Skreet bike I owned was a 03 FZ 1, and I put a crap load of miles on it over the 12-15 years I commuted to work on it. It paid for itself in gas saved over my truck, but I want something more economical this time around. I probably need to ride one before making the decision that it's too small however. Wish they still made the 701, that sounds like the sweet spot.

I snatched up the last one Colorado and am VERY happy I did. Since ya mentioned it, yes. This bike is a blast to take out canyon carving in the mountains. Gotta change out those mirrors though lol

I just bought one last month. I got a 2020 model, which had the spoke wheels rather than the cast alloy. So far I really love the bike. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and the nice review. Oh and I’d snap it up while you still can 🙂👍

bought my svart 701 almost 7 months ago brand new. 12k miles later and I still love that bike. mirrors are horrible and well she's sounds a little rough now. still awesome 👌

They blame it on problems getting the engine up to the latest emission standards, but not sure if that was the real reason.

My neighbor bought a new Svartpilen 701 in January 2020 for a blowout price, $7888. Even at that price the dealer said they weren't selling. Fast forward to 2023, Svartpilen 401s are out of stock everywhere. In Oct 2022 I bought a new Vitpilen 401 and had to pay $700 over list price.

I've searched and searched for the reason it was discontinued and all I have found believable is that it was too good as a hooligan bike, and law enforcement became involved. It's still available as a dirt bike however.

I think the reason is this (apart from the competition in this weight/power segement) in Europe, due to the type of driving licence stages, older bikers buy/drive bigger bikes and like to travel/have luggage , so the main market is youngsters (or older blokes with money, but they allready bought one) but they have limited licences these days, so most of the 701 are tuned back to 45 hp for a A2 drivers licence. Since the 401 does cover that use, there is a very limited market for this “gadget”. (I have one! But i have 9 bikes more to choose from) Since the 901 is to be released soon… i can understand the discontinuation out of economical perspective from the factory…. Still a pity though…
