Testament´s Chuck talks about healing his cancer, band dynamics and creating the new album.

At Wacken Open Air I had the pleasure of talking to Testament´s Chuck and Alex about the strenuous process of creating the new album, about meeting medicine men and going back to the his native american roots.

My grandpa is full blood Apache! I joined the military and traveled the world experiencing the whole spectrum! When I left the military, they prescribed me a slew of pharmaceuticals! I met a apache shaman in Durango Colorado outside the white dragon tea room...there was a interaction that was personal and near impossible to believe, so I keep it to myself! He changed my life for the better! I went to the mescalero reservation and participated in his ceremony! I haven't taken a pharmaceutical since! The experience gave me sight and understanding! You can have your doubts but...I haven't taken a single pharmaceutical in 10 years! I use to visite a psychiatrist every week before this experience! We may have advanced in technology but we have left ourselves behind!

Amazing story Chuck. It’s funny when I first heard and seen Testament I thought to myself Chuck billy looked like a neechie, a First Nation, later found he was I was like wow, but being First Nation when you see one it’s like you kinda know, a neech just has that look. But beautiful story I myself was doctored as a young boy by a medicine man, I am an Ojibwe from the ebb and flow First Nation, and I was doctored by a medicine men, went through a lot, seen things felt things that are tough to explain, my medicine man said to me one time “it’s tough being a First Nation because the more we know the more wise the narrower the road we have to walk, and it’s not like that for other people you know we have a responsibility of taking care of these teaching these gifts, if I were to disrespect my feathers, you know I can get sick, but it wouldn’t be the same for a white man” and I can see the look on the guitrasits face like wow this guys crazy but I get that, my medicine man said to me one time “I don’t know how you can make someone who doesn’t believe or understand these ways believer their is a creator a spirit world.. I don’t know how you can prove that to someone who doesn’t believe because you can’t, but one things forsure there is and I’ve seen it” and that’s what he said to me, I was doctored when I was 10-12 years old attended sun dances sweats shake tents and drank medicine, been cancer free 14 years now, I became a powwow dancer, such a awesome feeling a gift to be able to dance and feel the drum feel your spirit dancing feeling the spirit of those animals on your regalia with you, dancing for healing in a good way. Awesome story. CB is a deep dude. I love how metal musicians come out as smart, deep and educated. It was a long time ago that heavy metal was just aaaaaaarrrgh and keerrrrrang and stupidity. I do believe that the mind can control diseases, if you let it. I often have this scanning feeling, like I'm looking inwards, checking if I'm healthy, in a weird way. I can't explain it. It's like an inner radar..
