Nice review. Nice rig! They blew it on the engine cover in this one. The V6 is good (my 2003 Sport Trac XLT Limited is V6 AWD, but that generation is a smaller rig than this). For the newer, bigger 2006-2010 Explorers and Mountaineers, the V6 was much the same, with the 5 speed AT carried over. But the 4.6 V8 got VVT mated to a 6 speed AT, which gave it 2 benefits: Power jumped by 50 HP to just under 300 HP (a 20% bump) while fuel economy improved. I bought a black Mountaineer Premier in July 2023, black on tan, and V8/2WD with a 7200 pound tow rating, for the RV trailer I bought, which has a GVWR of 7,000 pounds. The F-150s were too expensive, or had the problematic 5.4 engine. Silverados with the 5.3 were also way beyond my budget. With the cruise set at 70 mph on the interstates,I was going 400 miles between fill ups with a 20 gallon tank! The V6 can't do that. Oh, I paid $3,500 for it, with only 235,000 miles on the odometer. Everything works like new, except the navigation, which is missing the DVD. The Premier trim comes with the tow package, including the brake controller cable. Mine was in an unopened bag with the Jack, etc in the back. I just needed a brake controller, and an equalizer hitch ($199- at Harbor Freight) and I had my trailer on the road in style! Great vehicles. The Mercury looks better than the Ford, and original buyers were usually older, with the $$ to maintain them. That makes these one of the best used SUV bargains out there. 😊

i've driven these and the Explorers extensively and I can honestly i like these better than the newer Unibody ones. The 4.0L motor in these is kind of a boat anchor but the transmission is geared perfectly to get the most power out of it. I'd love to pick an explorer of this vintage up just as a run around town truck

I don't think I'd mind driving one, especially a Mountaineer with leather like this one. It would probably be a lot nicer than my '98 Ranger haha.

I just picked up a 2005 sport trac 4.0 with 95k on it. out of all my cars I've owned, its by far been my favorite! not to big, not to small, decent power and fairly decent on gas. My only real complaint with it is I wish the bed was a little bit bigger

That 4.0's issue was the timing cassettes outside of that, fairly bulletproof. It's no 4.6 tho. That one is the lifetime engine.

Hello question what is the difference between all trims as far what will those or gain? When I see trims I don't see much maybe a sunroof but that about it or navigation but that seems about it

depends on the year but Premier got a v8 and nav, sunroof were options.

It may have euro style brake lights units but not British style as british style has on the back two options clear over indicator with orange bulb and clear over reverse with clear bulb but red over brake with clear bulb and red over tail with clear bulb or orange over indicator with orange bulb clear over reverse with clear bulb red over brake with clear bulb red over tail with clear bulb and also can be orange over indicator with clear bulb clear over reverse with clear bulb red over brake with clear bulb and red over tail with clear bulb, but what you called with all of the rear lights being clear with different colour bulbs for each light is over here called Japanese style and the government allows it if they came on the car clear all over from factory but if you after market put them on your car then the government says there illegal but smoked rear lights are fine, yet i can see normal rear lights better than all clear and i can see all clear better than smoked but i got no problem with either form.
