@@TrialsPassage 2014 is the worst year for the escape. Do not buy. I had one for 5 months and took it to the shop every single month so I just traded it back in to the dealership. Eco boost engines are not made to last and are very temperamental. Do not buy the 2014 I promise it’s way too risky

@TestDrivenTV you're incorrect to say that there are no buttons to push and nothing to do. If you go through the menu on the dash, you can turn off the "traction control" and that allows for more wheel spin and still keep the intelligent 4wd on. That can help in snow/ice and other slippery situations.

All-wheel drive is a type of four-wheel-drive system or mode that automatically shifts power between the front and rear wheels to maintain traction and is usually adequate for lighter-duty winter driving and light off-pavement use. Four-wheel drive can reasonably be used as an umbrella term for any system that powers all four wheels, but in the context of this-or-that, the term is often used to describe such a system or mode that excludes the properties of AWD and is heavier duty, meant for serious off-roading.

What about the Forester XT? Far better value than the Escape equipped with 2.0 Ecoboost and AWD in my opinion. XT is cheaper, more powerful, standard AWD and sunroof, better safety, superior visibility, more capacity, more ground clearance, great off-road capability, and no recalls. The CVT is also very good with options that mimic a 6 and 8-speed automatic w/ paddle shifters. When we priced out an Escape with 2.0 Ecoboost, AWD and a sunroof, the dealer wanted $38K+. Also, the interior felt claustrophobic and we didn't like the center stack or controls. Our '14 XT, with everything we wanted/needed, cost just $28.5K. The interior felt airy compared to Escape and visibility was great. Yeah, the stereo is garbage but easily fixable as Subaru kept the HVAC display/controls separate from radio. I hear owning a Subaru in Texas is a no-no like owning a Prius. Is it the same in Arizona? Lol.
@ponygt6629
@ponygt6629 10 жыл бұрын
I ve driven the XT and I didnt like it, reasons 1.) Looks like Subarus in 90s interior wise and exterior wise, damn boring design 2.) Interior quality is a step below the Escape, its too darn cheap looking with awful fake carbon fiber like plastics and simply awful 3.)Harsh ride quality- Here itself TestdriveTV gave a just average ride quality not a plush one, Forester is even worse, it is spine tingling ride quality is what I hate even with 17" wheels, Escape with 18" had and impressive balance between ride quality and GRIP that barely a few CUVs can match(CX-5,CRV,RAV4, rest all ride either wallowy or 2 firm) 4.)Infotainment system is from stone age in Subaru 5.)Interior quietness, even at 50 mph I felt like driving at 70 mph in Subaru, its cabin insulation is CRAP, In contrast I can whisper inside the Escape at even 70 mph 6.)The Escape felt it has minimal turbo lag, almost same as the VW Tiguan which almost has no turbo lag, so even part throttle was more than enough to move around in traffic 7.)Annoying CVT, it was a pain in the ass to use, terrible software it uses, completely tuned for economy, no charisma at all 8.)I averaged just 29 mpg with the XT while the Escape managed 28, I am more than happy 2 sacrifice than 1 mpg for the extra comforts,quality,brilliant AWD,ergonomics and all the qualities I ve quoted above

saddist1Gtown Wow, u ve driven which variant , I ve driven the 2.0 TDCi 180 HP powershift as well as the 176 hp 1.5l ecoboost FWD when I was in Spain, and its a popular vehicle in Spain as well
@G8GTJav
@G8GTJav 10 жыл бұрын
saddist1Gtown Well, I think you are kind of nuts. Of course the Forester is a competitor for the Escape, CR-V, RAV4, CX-5, etc. I'm a total gear-head and I did a ton of research before we bought our XT. We wanted power, AWD, and sunroof. The Forester XT clicked all those boxes at a far cheaper price than similarly equipped Escape. While Subaru has a reputation for being utilitarian, the engineers at Subaru spent a lot of time ensuring the XT was sporty as well as capable. Also, I am American and I love American cars. I would say Europeans are the snobs that believe everything foreign is better. I don't care much for Ford products but am a huge GM fan. My family owns several GM vehicles andI have personally owned several American cars including a Buick Grand National, an American icon over here. If the Escape is selling well in Germany and UK, then good for Ford. I'm sure you have different options over there that include a diesel. Subaru has record sales over here. It doesn't hurt that they have a reputation for reliability and are a top safety pick. I think you are the one who needs to get out more. As far as economy, it doesn't get more efficient than a CVT. The base Forester gets the highest MPG in its class, even with AWD, and we are happy with the MPG we get out of our XT.
@G8GTJav
@G8GTJav 10 жыл бұрын
saddist1Gtown How do you know what type of person I am? The XT wasn't even purchased for me. My daily ride is a Pontiac G8 GT. Its a sweet ride with a big V8. Before we bought the XT, Subaru wasn't even on the short list. The new Forester had only been out a couple of weeks and I wasn't even aware it had been totally redesigned. Also, didn't know Forester was going to get the IIHS top safety pick in their crash testing which, by the way, Ford Escape did very poorly. We were going to buy American but the XT ended up winning us over. Hate to break it to you but the Ford Escape is not technically a SUV. The term Sport Utility Vehicle refers to vehicles that are body-on-frame designs based off full-size trucks. They can tow boats and go off-road all while carrying a large family. The Escape, Forester, CR-V, CX5, RAV4, and all other compacts in the segment are Crossover Utility Vehicles (CUV) which means they are unibody construction based off of cars. The current gen Escape is designed off a Focus chassis and Forester is off of the Impreza chassis. Subarus aren't niche here in California at all. In fact, they are a no-brainer for people who like the outdoors and go to the mountains for skiing, kayaking, camping, hiking, biking, etc.
@ponygt6629
@ponygt6629 10 жыл бұрын
See why are you not replying to problems with the XT, I still think the Escape has more than enough talent to rival some full blown SUVs and its a perfect vehocle for some one who dosent want something dead boring as a Subaru

Do you use cruise control? I have a 2015 2.0 and get 26 with mixed driving. Use CC as much as possible. It makes a huge difference, and the person behind you doesn't have to constantly modulate their speed to your iratic driving. I've ridden with people who treat the accelerator like an on-off switch... It's like bipolar foot control. If you don't use CC you're not getting the mileage you could, period.

You keep talking about the AWD system like it's a 4WD system. The two are not one and the same. The Escape you tested has a full-time AWD system that, as you mention in your "one wheel up" section, can neither be turned off nor on. AWD is a system designed for on-road driving, and is a feature that is intended to be constantly on. 4WD is designed for off-road driving, and is intended to only be used when the driver is in an off-road situation and needs more traction when descending or ascending.
