Great video. Will be interesting if you can do another video later after you have some miles on the wheels to see how they fare in the long term.

Ive been smashing through rocks in the last 5 years on various Chinese carbon rims with zero issues. Many of the more expensive rims are built in the same building.

Saw Sam pilgrim riding without tires down stairs over and over again drifting and jumping etc like he was trying to break the carbon wheels. I think they got damaged after a couple of hours which he shortened down to 25 minute video or something similar.. I think it was on a heavy emtb any aluminum wheels would get smashed the first ten minutes

Been using quai carbon rims on hardtail, its more nimble, not too compliant with super rough terrain but compensate it with my tires, overall i feel more connected with the terrain using carbon rims👍

I ordered some ICANs with DT 350 for $920 shipped. The shipping to the US is spendy. The hubs are good once they get trashed and need news rims. I can't feel much difference in ride quality with carbon rims. I think tires way more impacful.

@piciu256

They aren't really any lighter than a cheaper alu wheel, they are probably stronger, but still, I don't see a point personally. On the other hand, if someone wants carbon so bad, they are not much more expensive, so whatever, I heard that carbon wheels can be pretty harsh, so definitely not for me.
@piciu256
@piciu256 3 жыл бұрын
@@LoveMTB for sure carbon is stronger, it's been proven time and time again, aspecially with tore inserts, however, the issue with carbon is that once you exceed the threshold, they break catastrophically, while an alu rim absorbs the energy so can often be bent back and ridden down.

As much as I like keeping to a budget. I think it’s an injustice to place such a wheelset on such high end boutique bike. It’s like putting a Sram AXS on a CCM bike from Canadian Tire. We Are Ones rims with cost efficient hubs could of been budget friendly and helped out the Canadian economy.

I have these discount carbon wheels on all of my bikes. No way am I going to pay 3 or 4 times the price for a wheelset that also was made in China, and quite possibly in the same factory. 6 years without a problem.

I can tell you were not riding on a Tuesday (no rain) . Good review, love to see products being tested in the field. My bikes are too old for carbon :) Have easton Havoc AM on my trail bike and XT/Mavic rear with Easton XC One front on my XC. Still have the XC One rear, just it's way to light built for me :) every ride = broken spoke. Pain to fix with the double threaded spokes.

I recently purchased 29er carbon wheels from DIY carbon bikes. While the customer service and rear hub were a problem, my final wheelset is good. While about $100 more than these, its also significantly lighter at under 1600 grams for the set.

@@LoveMTB I'm not sure...I switched from an old pair of Stan's Arch EX with thousands of miles on them. So of course they felt amazing! My problem was with the Fastace branded rear hub, the shell broke twice! I've never had a problem with a hub in 2 decades, so I knew something wasn't right when 2 hubs both broke in the same place with only a hundred or so miles on them.

Carbon wheels can be stronger than aluminum, or they can be lighter with similar strength. You choose based on the type of riding you do, and of course, your budget. Compliance is different, but that’s not a better than/worse than proposition. That’s purely rider preference. Where carbon can’t compete with aluminum though is with direct impacts. You get a hard rock strike on an alu wheel and you end up with a scratch/ superficial blemish. My aluminum wheels have dozens of such blemishes after less than one season on them. There’s no way I’d trust an expensive carbon wheel to stand up to this long term, except maybe if they offer a lifetime warranty against that specific type of damage.

I have used Knight carbon enduro wheels on my bike for some time but have broken the back wheel twice 😦! For now my back weel is a Mavic Enduro aluminium... Knight has a very good crash replacement policy, but I don't think I will run carbon on my enduro bike anymore. 🤔 I will keep them for my trail bike (a RM Growler). I don't want to see if and when my warranty will expire 🤣🤣🤣.
