imho yours is a better built warp core, as you're right that the poor diffusion in the original design (and model for sale) really gives away the use of LEDs and takes away from the illusion props (wink) to all who worked on this beauty

Hey Norm, great build as always. I just wanted to note that I designed the first 3-D printable Warp Core Table lamp that was available for free online in 2014. My design had different criteria: I wanted it to be fully 3-D printable with no supports and no tooling needed afterwards. It also uses off-the-shelf blue icicle lights so that no electronics skills are necessary to get that beautiful pulsing. (I admit that this makes it not quite screen accurate, but it's still very satisfying.) Many people have built it over the years, and parts of my design that were original carry over into designs like this one. I hope others will try building it if they are intimidated by this build. It is still available for free on Thingiverse made by theplanetmike.

Norm I don't know if you read these comments but I wish there were more builds like this but what nobody talks about is the costs. Like the electronics alone is over $100 and the Resin is probably $80. It's definitely cool to build it, but when you add in paints and sand paper you are pushing $300. If you ran a successful KZbin Channel of just building things the costs associated with fabrication are really expensive. I love that your time with Adam gives you opportunities to show off your skills and that's one of the things I really love about the channel and why I subscribe.

I can imagine a world where the videos of the Tested crew don't "perform" as well on the KZbin Algorithm. But by golly, I love the joy. That moment where you questioned whether to test the lights--knowing how it cold just be for your own satisfaction--I love coming with other humans on that journey of creativity. I want to see more from ALL of you, Tested Team! Kristen! How goes your Muppeteering journey??

Yes, it's not always about the views, we agree! Thank you for your kind comment. And ... my puppet collection is doing most excellently, which I'd love to share if only I didn't freeze in front of any camera, even for photos. Adam would like us to share our interests and joys with you all -- he and I were just discussing it the other day -- but I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to get past my abject terror and horror that is me on camera. I think the rings between each layer need to be perforated or maybe set a little further away from the LEDs to actually ALLOW some light bleed into the unlit parts as they just seem a bit TOO dark. Could be an affect of the camera, but I just think that in the show the WHOLE thing was always lit with the brighter parts moving to the centre. Beautiful model though.... Of something I have wanted for YEARS!!!

Have you thought that this video is going to be referenced in a textbook, that's used to train a generation of engineers, who will create the first Star Trek Replicator (the one that takes two hours, and an array of fresh produce and materials)? Because Season 1 Wesley could replicate a model of the warp core, and this is the first iteration to achieving that milestone.

This warp core it’s simply amazing, unfortunately supports are needed despite how annoying are them, if you don’t want to print on angle the best thing you can do it’s raise the print about a cm from the plate and add couple rect supports to avoid any deformation. But if you want to avoid any support and have the best quality possible it’s better print on nylon.

My wife called the room as her gaming room, but gave me control of the much larger living room to do as I please. She asked what I wanted to do with it and I immediately said "I want a giant warp core that can be seen from outside when lit up!" She loves Startrek too, so she didn't say no, but I don't think knows that I was serious. In time, in time, but for now, a desktop one will suffice.😅
