Could you suggest some best cameras for recording rocket launch..... Please
@daniellezepess6 жыл бұрын
Even with the fog, this is a fantastic photo progression! It's fun to learn the mechanics of how these kinds of series are achieved.
@UCreations6 жыл бұрын
4:28 "55 is too tight" he is talking about a aps-c lens. You have a full frame camera, so 50mm on your 5d/6d is about as wide as a 30mm on an aps-c camera. Auto-iso, minimal shutter speed at 1/1000sec should have done the trick. Manual focus was a good choice, f/8 gave enough DoF to keep the rocket in focus.

Thanks for the tips!
@aerospacefuzz6 жыл бұрын
Yup we clarified regarding crop vs full frame later in the conversation. Good catch :)
@aaronv2photography6 жыл бұрын
Auto Iso? Gross.
@UCreations6 жыл бұрын
nothing wrong with auto iso in combination with a minimum shutter speed. It will result in exactly the same iso and shutterspeed as by setting the iso and shutterspeed manually. Too bad many photographers think that "M' is the only way to shoot photos. A real professional knows how too use his tools as efficient as possible to get the job done. Some things you do manual, other things automatic or semi-automatic.
@aaronv2photography6 жыл бұрын
You're right. A REAL professional knows how to use his tools as efficiently as possible. So while you rely on auto iso which will lose you fine detail in your image. I as a professional will not because I am more concerned about my iso and fine detail instead of focusing on a shutter speed. Too bad many photographers don't ACTUALLY know what they are talking about when it comes to a technical reason why they cling to some fall back tradition they always want to do. So while you made no point in your reply I stand by my comment... auto iso is for people who dont care about fine details.

Norm! Terrific pix-- a little fog is a shame but things still look good. And it is a rocket launch in the fog! Nice-- hope there's plans for going to another/several.
@jeffhaas876 жыл бұрын
Well played! It looks like your settings are about 90% the way there. Sorry to hear about the fog, man. That sucks. You should come to Cape Canaveral! We almost never get fog like that over here on the east coast.

Superimpose the last clear shot of the tower with some of the rocket in motion images, you should end up with some good composites, as the camera does not move...
@davidangel-blair93586 жыл бұрын
Definitely should use ISO higher than 100. At least 400. Great video Norm!

"I've been hugely envious of the beautiful photography I've seen from some great photographers." You should cite some of them. I'm a photographer (never shot a space launch), but most photographers I know think it's nice when they hear their images are appreciated by others. I'll start off by saying anybody interested in rocket photography should look at Last Launch by Dan Winters. He's usually a portrait photographer, but he did the book almost as a love letter to the Space Shuttle, and shot some of the final launches.
@markderoller76456 жыл бұрын

Cant see why you didn't go wider than fifty, obviously if you went to 20/25mm it would have looked distorted and you'd of had to do alot of cropping but a think a wider frame would have gave you more room to work with. Awesome you got the opportunity to shoot it though!

This is all fine & well, informative...but it seems moot if you don't have news credentials. Explain how to get credentials so one can view a launch from that close for this to be truly worth while.
@oliverpelhamburn93346 жыл бұрын
Get a job with a news site or news paper then apply. Pretty easy.
@JonGaled6 жыл бұрын
Without being too harsh, you need to be a member of a legitimate news outlet or blogger that they deem worthy. SpaceX, ULA, and NASA have a list of media members on an email list that they'll inform us of when accreditation is available. We have to submit to a background check (we are coming on military/government property). Media credentials are the only way to get that close. KSC in Florida (where I'm based out of) does have media viewing areas 3-4 miles from the pads. Sometimes they'll sell VIP seats where the media are. If you want to become credentialed as media, get a job for an outlet or freelance as a photographer
@Lion_McLionhead6 жыл бұрын
To be clear, they're ULA launches, not NASA launches. NASA hasn't launched their own rocket in almost 10 years.
