Now see this is the kind of video I'd love to see more of. One color, every brand, so we can see how each one looks because odds are no two paints are exactly identical in shade even if they say something generic like "Blue". Black especially falls into this category. Some are actually jet black, some are a lighter black, and others are more gray but still labeled as black.

As a new airbrusher, whites are a huge pain to deal with. I appreciate you dropping a considerable chunk of change to figure out which ones I should try next: looks like I might step outside my comfort zone and use a non-acrylic (or hybrid) for my whites, at the very least.

once you go lacquer you don't go back they are touch dry in 30 seconds, they chemically bond to the plastic so no peeling up from masking tape, they are easy to sand and very durable, I only use acrylic and enamel for brush painting now

This video is a lifesaver. I am building the 1:144 Saturn V rocket and at some point I was completely frustrated while trying to cover the Tamiya putty in between and match the color overall. I went through Revell aqua color, Tamiya acrylics, Mr. Hobby acrylics, Mr.Base white, Modelmaster acryl, and Vallejo model air paints. I too found that Mr.Hobby aqueous is my favorite to airbrush. But my go to for brushing has been Modelmaster/Testors acrylic paint. I know they are discontinued and are probably hard to find but still just wanted to throw it out there. Thanks for the great effort in this video.

Army Painter has a pre-thinned color line for airbrushes. It is supposed to have a finer pigment particle level. They are called The Army Painter Air.

Fantastic video! You covered every brand I could think of. As a suggestion for future videos: Brushes. Not airbrushes, hand brushes. I know you're more of an air brusher but I'm guessing you still do details by hand. At the same time most brush reviews I've seen are focused on the traditional arts or painting with acrylic paints, but for those of us that are fans of lacquer paints its harder to know which brushes are good or bad. I've had brushes where the handles started dissolving, others that started leeching color from the handle, and others where the bristles just degraded so quickly after a few uses with lacquer paints.

LifeColor and Andrea Paints are made for brushing, I was surprised you didn't have them in your line-up. But thanks for doing this comparison of the whites that you have, it was great to see where some paints fall down in application and interesting that there were paints that you have, that I've never heard of, like Hobby Mie, Oden Kan, G-Paint, etc. which I gather are for Gunpla genre.

Even here in Japan the Finisher's line isn't very common. Any hobby store you go is loaded with Tamiya, GSI Creos (Mr. Hobby, Mr. Color, etc), Gaianotes and some Citadel paints but for Finisher's you gotta order online. I've only seen it on youtube. I think Acrysion was supposed to be the safe odorless paint made for children, hence why it's so mild.

I'd like to have seen artists' acrylics in this test: Golden Fluid Acrylics, Gold High Flow Acrylics, Golden SoFlat, Liquitex Acrylic Gouache, ... there are many others. I mention these specifically because they're quite similar in consistency to hobby paints and have very high pigment density. (I've been using them much more for models recently and find that they compare quite well to the usual hobby paint suspects.) Note that there are major differences between titanium white and zinc white pigments (the latter has much lower tinting and covering strength than the former, which is sometimes really helpful.) I suspect that all of these were titanium white, fwiw.

I'm wanting a tank style compressor. I plan on ordering one of their brushes. But I've held out on the order to see the compressor they have. I have a couple tankless, but with larger scale models, 1/16 or 1/8 I am getting them hot to the touch. And I am giving them breaks to allow them to cool off. Thanks again for all you do! Awesome vid. Watched the whole thing. Im kinda surpised army painter didnt make the best 8 as much as you raved about it. Lol. Then again I love army painter. Its my go to acrylic. Maybe if there was a runner up! Im also happy that the Creatix got a top spot. I recently discovered it and have been working with it and I love it. For some reason I just shrugged it off as trash cheap hobby store paint. On par with what Wal-Mart sells. I thought that was just the Hobby-Lobby equivalent lol. Boy was I wrong. Bought some to test and I love it. Plus at $4 a bottle and I dont have to order online. Yeah Im a Creatix fan now. For sure. I do love Gpaint. I do feel it should have performed better but I dunno. I have always gotten great results with Gpaint on actual gunpla pieces. Mr. Color and anything Mr. Hobby I also love. Would love to try AOK and Gaia. Might get some AOKs for a build I have in mind. The vid definitely helped me work out some ideas for projects I've been planning, and also also was super neat to see how a lot of these white paints functioned seeing as how white is so finicky. Once again, thank you! Question for you; have you thought about doing a similar video with gloss blacks and or whites? I recently got Greenstuffworld's gloss black primer to use with certain paints in after having issues with other gloss blacks, and was just curious. In my case it was Mission Model's gloss black paint that never worked for me, maybe because the formula was different from their normal paints which I really love and I just couldn't get it to work. Maybe I just had a bad pot. Am looking forward to trying the GSW tho. Also looked at Vallejo's as well as Tamiya's, etc. Just never could get the MMP GB to work. Have the gloss white on standby to try though. After seeing all of the options out there, was just curious on your opinions on the matter. Went down the rabbit hole recently too because I'm also planning on doing a number of other experiments with topcoats via gloss black and solvent vs acrylic, but that's an aside lol. After all of the dedication and consideration you put into your content and testing, I tend to come here to check and see if you have tested something or a paint first lol. Don't have time to watch this (yet) but from the intro I noticed you're missing the artist acrylics. So brands like Liquitex and W&N do both heavy body whites that miniature painters love to use, along with white inks that go through an airbrush really well. Could be nice for a future comparison.

I have only tried Ak real color's white, Tamiya flat white, Ammo mig's washeble white, Ak primer and microfiller white, Mr finishing surfacer white, Tamiya liquid surfacer white and Italeri white. I got Tamiya enamel X1 gloss white have not tried yet, and Humbrol enamel gloss white but have not tried yet. Nice to see how they all perform.

I really love the Vallejo dead white on gunpla, but I gotta check out the Createx Wicked white. I'm disappointed in the results for the kustom service white , I really like their scifi Colbalt blue, but good to know the white is something to avoid... almost bought it yesterday.

Very interesting and thorough video! As a MIG AMMO painter myself I must say I have never had such bad results either brushing or airbrushing. On the contrary I find the AMMO MIG to be some of the best water based acrylics, especially for airbrushing.

Had a very bad experience with them too. I don't reject that was a bad batch, but the colors and vanishes sprayed left visible droplets on the model. Gloss varnish was a disaster, behaved like I sprayed over oily surface, terrible. I did not thin them at all, and regularly use Vallejo Air.

Gaianote made some of the best quality hobby paint but they are extremely hard to find, always backordered. My next alternative is the Mr. Aqueous line, just as good as the classic Mr. Color but less toxic, they are like $2 a bottle where I live.

Gaia only ships out paint stock once a year. If you don't have everything pre ordered from them then your store won't be seeing any. I made arrangements with a friend in Japan to get some stock

Late comment but Ammo by MIG is very picky. If you try to thin it with water it basically bubbles like it did for you. I always use thinner medium and then it airbrushed and hand paints well. Water seems to break the paint up.

The Army Painter looked better than the 2.0 and about equal to AK. Another very good acrylic paint from the USA is Reaper from Reaper Miniatures in Denton, Texas; a number of the top painters in the MFCA use them, too.

If you use a corse surfacer and do a candy as thin as you can for the look you want the surfacer sucks the gloss up and gives an anodized look I don't know if it's a normal method but it works for me

I'm not trying to give you video ideas it's more of things I've done by mistake and I don't know if the technique is reliable or not but if you wanted an anodized look you could try it and the suggestion about painting an entry grade a with each line would probably help more when you model with a visual finished product over memory for the perfect fit and if you're going to setup for a big paint session why not do a cheap simple kit for display and visual aid
