I had a similar situation to you, I live in a semi rural area and the distance from my house to the cabinet is 1.8km. My max speeds I got on my copper landline was 15Mbps down and 0.5Mbps up with a ping of around 40. This for most / some people would be completely satisfactory but for me I do allot of streaming and wanted to view content in full 4k whilst also having the capability to upload content without having to leave devices switched on for hours on end. I went for the 3 package like yours and saw a noticable bump in speed and upload to about 25Mbps down and 5Mbps up maximum. I however upgraded my router/modem to the Huwawei B525 and purchased a Poynting 4g-xpol-a0001 external antenna and got it fitted on a pole on the side of my house and now I can get a maximum 100Mbps down and 30Mbps up with a ping of 25 - 40 (external factors permitting). I've also read a press release by 3 mobile stating that whilst they are introducing their 5g networks in areas across the UK they are also heavily investing in their existing 4g infrastructure and introducing 4g+ in areas which theoretically could increase download speeds to 300Mbps, 3 have a device list stating what devices support this (including 4g routers /modems)

you should install an outdoor 4G/LTE antenna.. the hub should have 2 connections for the antenna somewhere.. if you do take this route, try and keep the antenna cable as short as you can so you dont loose out on the gain provided by the antenna in the first place :)

I'm very pleased with 4G. Just be aware that the 4G providers tend to oversell the bandwidth a bit too much. So 4G that started real fast can slow over time to be faster than ADSL but not much faster. In other words congestion. So at 2.45am you might get 95 Mbps while at 8.45 pm you might get 15 Mbps etc. If your upload speedtest is much faster than download speed blame congestion.

Hello, i would just like to make a comment on how my 4g wifi had been and what i recommend to improve your wifi (i have tried a lot of different things). 4g wifi is great, my average speed is 80 mbps when the fastest available in my area is 10 mbps. However the downside is that the ping is an average of 40-50. So what i do is i have a cheap broadband which i only use for gaming and 4g for everything else. In terms of having unreliable broadband i HIGHLY recommend the tp link av500 or better which can be bought for less than £20 and grants ultra reliable internet if your router is far away from your device, what i have done is wired the av500 into a second router upstairs so the upstairs internet is as good as downstairs. In my experience normal extenders do not work and the reason the av500 does is because it is basically an ethernet connection

The problem with mobile broadband still, is the data capping at certain times. I've also noticed with intense work, like live HD video, you are limited to one device that's going to work. As soon as you add live TV in another room, the internet stalls. I suppose so many are using a 4G network, three has to cap it to share it around.

my area does not supply fibre optic (fastest wifi available in my area is 14mbps) but in reality my speeds were normally 6mbps but could be as bad as 0.8 when others were using it. So i decided to buy a 4g router. My internet is now averaging around 25mbps but can go up to 30mbps when no one is using it. On my phone the reception is usually only around 3/5 or 4/5 where i live but the new 4g wifi is reliable and fast. I purchased a tp link lte router and a unlimited 4g sim with *no download speed cap* Highly recommended doing this if you are in a situation like mine

I ordered this today. I live in the country in West Sussex and with BT we get max DL of 5 meg. I seen this offer on Facebook and decided to try it. My only worry is the Three signal where I am. My mobile phone network is EE and they're generally faster and I get a max of 40 meg download. I really doubt I'll get that with Three as I was with them for over 15 years untill I changed to EE so I know how bad they are. Let's hope they've improved! I get mine on Thursday.

Hi, I think I have got silly question. Can you use "Mobile" CIM in Router to get better speed ? Is there difference between Broadband and Mobile CIM in terms of speed? I am using Three prepay cim in router and getting upto 2mb/ps. Should I get broadband cim? I am in the 4G area so no issue of signals.
@WingingIt4 жыл бұрын
Hi, good question. As far as I’m aware there’s no difference. A sim is a sim. You can buy blank routers and add your own sims to it from EE, Vodafone etc. But I’m my case the device and sim are contracted from Three. Don’t know if you’re in a similar situation, but I would contact three if the speeds aren’t up to scratch. But be very careful about swapping sims if you’re on a contract. They’ll charge you a huge amount to leave a contract early.

DAMN!! I live on a new estate with no fibre and it's annoying. I am really tempted to do this but worried I won't have a reliable connection for gaming. Question, have you disconnected much? Also, what kinda signal does it indicate on your device/phone for 4g? My phone currently gives me half a bar or less but I imagine the router can get a better signal strength?
@WingingIt5 жыл бұрын
Hey, i haven't disconnected at all from it, there haven't been any issues with that. In terms of signal on my phone i get the full amount of bars and always a 4G signal. I use it on my PS4 and computer as well at the same time and both of those run at very high speeds with no drops. I should imagine that this would be ideal for a place with no fibre. As i said in the video i live in the middle of the countryside and its good for me. But it all depends on what data signals are like in your area. But there is a tool on Three's website where you can input your postcode and it will tell you what coverage is like in your area. Hope this helps, and the video does too!
@itwaskev5 жыл бұрын
@@WingingIt Thanks, yeh I get half a signal, sometimes less on my phone so that worries me lol. I've decided for now to stick with standard broadband. Maybe try this sometime in the future. I wish I could try it for 1month but at a reasonable price but the price is shockingly high when you only buy it for a month. I read in a comment recently that in the small terms and conditions they actually cap you after 1gb data usage and inspect why you are using so much so not truely unlimited. Did u ever use more than 1gb a month?
@WingingIt5 жыл бұрын
Definitely, uploading just one of my videos consumes 1-2gb easily. I think last month i used around 50gn ish. Never had any issues or anything from Three. I stream movies/videos from Netflix/Amazon/KZbin. Would you recommend a solution like that to me?
@WingingIt5 жыл бұрын
Well, it depends on the signal strength in your area of course. If that’s okay then it could work. Issue with phone data is that not many providers make it unlimited. I used to use my iPhone as a hotspot and I had to keep buying more and more data as KZbin and everything else drained it quick. That’s the difference with this hub, that it operates off the same signals but this particular contract has unlimited data. Not a limit of 20gb like phones normally do.
@Dominate9555 жыл бұрын
Interesting... Thanks for replying so quickly! Your video was very informative. I just saw some Three deals where you get unlimited data/mins/texts, where you truly get unlimited data (doesn't talk about a cap in small print) for £20/month. When the internet does work I'm getting a max of 10 mbps and upload of less than a mb, but the issue is that it's always dropping out. I tested the hotspot solution and I'm getting like 40 down and 6 up with much lower response times.

See I have this issue on the caravan site I live, their internet is crap...bought w Vodafone mifi device...slightly better but still really crap. Am looking at unlocking and changing to 3, and if that doesn’t make much difference I’m going to try the sim in a netgear router. The little routers Vodafone supply are pretty lame

Well now this could help, and thank you for looking at the model. I to am is a streamer, (grammar) and suffer from poor not advertised speeds from BT. Download says 14ish steam download says 2.0 mmmm upload 1mbps There are three versions of the product, now does it matter which one to choose? Many thanks.
@WingingIt4 жыл бұрын
Not sure tbh, they must have a stats or included table for each version so you can compare them?

Steam shows megaBYTES per second whereas download tests show megabits. 8Mb = 1MB Mb = megabit. MB = megabyte. 2MB/s would be 16Mb/s ☺️ hope I'm not being condescending or rude!

@@WingingIt I think he's saying he's not getting the advertised speeds in steam from BT when he's getting 14ish on speed tests and 2 on steam. Steam by default shows megabytes per second rather than megabits on downloads so it can be misleading and the only difference is the capitalisation of the b. I'm really interested in getting this. How's gaming on a 4G connection? My student house had 120Mb/s but due to the lockdown I'm back in the middle of nowhere with 2Mb/s download and 0.2Mb/s upload. I don't know if 4G will even be great in this area but I've looked at "smarty" which use the 3 network and they have £20 per month for unlimited data. Or £15 for 100GB. You get back in money what you don't use at the end of each month if you go with one of these deals. Also monthly rolling contracts and you can cancel at any time. Sounds way too good to be true but I cannot work from home or game with this internet speed so I'm going to give it a go! ☺️ Thanks for the video it was my decider

@WingingIt5 жыл бұрын
The plan I have with Three has unlimited data so yes. I can never run out. I’m sure there is an arbitrary limit out there of thousands of GBs but I sincerely doubt anyone would hit it. I download lots of games and I stream games from PS now which sucks up bandwidth like hell. But I’ve never had any issues. And three have never appeared to throttle speeds. I’ve had downloads, KZbin and streams running at once and it handles it well. Of course that could depend on where you live and your provider. But certainly this plan I’m on is unlimited.

One thing I like about those Huawei 4g routers is that they have an RJ 11 phone socket on the back as well, so if your SIM card comes with unlimited minutes you can plug in an old-fashioned landline phone and use it as a free home phone.

I’d advise anyone to check with their provider about signal in their area before buying it. Despite an area having 4G, it doesn’t mean that the signal may be good or that the provider is on that mast. Three have a checker on their website.
