Hasselblad's decision to make this both comparable and compatible with their old film cameras is brilliant, especially in light of the film camera resurgence we have been seeing.

@@eatenbyopium Older digital backs from Hass could easily be sync with one (disgracious) cable and can use the mirror, it is indeed limited in speed but that's it, i'm pretty sure they didnt go back on that function and you can still use it with the mirror under 1/500s and use the mirror in any faster speed, just locking it before the shot. I dont get why you would spread misinformation about it.

I think some of these digital camera companies are having a dilemma where influential kids are going all film and taking pictures with discontinued cameras that these companies can’t profit from. I think there will be an effort to redirect people away from film much like this video right here. I’m not accusing willem of anything I’m sure he is t aware of this but it’s clearly going to be a thing. These corporations don’t want you to know that you don’t need their cameras. Hasselblad is owned by dji who is owned by the Chinese government and leica is owned by black rock btw.

This has to be the most exciting digital camera since the Fujifilm X100. As you mentioned it shines in middle of so many uninspiring digital cameras. Despite the costs of film I still don't feel too tempted to get a full frame digital camera for my lenses, because I enjoy my film cameras for those lenses. It goes, for now, way beyond my means but I am very excited to see what talented photographers as yourself do with this camera that isn't a normal camera with some nostalgic clothes, but it feels like another experience.

Yes! I'm glad Hasselblad still has you on their short list for reviewing new camera releases! I love this project you've been working on, too. I also love the form factor of this camera for all the reasons that you outlined. That said, I own the sister to it, the X2D which has the same sensor. For those viewers thinking of buying either of these cameras, what you give up for this body type versus the X2D are excellent sensor image stabilization, and a significantly greater degree of weather resistance. If you still have this camera and lens, you might try shooting at wide-open or at least wider than f/4. These lenses are so sharp you can see softness from diffraction even at f/5.6 and smaller apertures on that lens/sensor combination. (The body provides auto focus bracketing and auto exposure bracketing to allow you to easily and quickly do that). All that aside, I really can't wait to see this project when it's done, especially if you publish a book or host a gallery show. For the sake of our entertainment, however, def. spend that $13,000 on more Volvos and Volvo parts for your other channel!✌

As a Hasselblad film camera user from the 90’s and into the early 2000’s, I have fond memories of that system. Running a studio at the cusp of the changeover to digital resulted in flicking all my film gear. Blads, Leica M6, Canon Eos to go 💯% with the new tech. It paid dividends big time, but the vibe around the cameras was degraded. No soul compared to my past experience. Anyhow, kind of full circle now in a way. I just bought the Leica M11P and a few lenses. It’s a seriously nice camera… I love using it!!! However… had I known the Hasselblad was being released….

These new 100MP sensors are stunningly good. (The sensor in this hassy is analogous to the fuji 100s and II, even if the aesthetics are very different). The high price of the HB is largely the looks, which...fair enough. It is a great looking/feeling machine. The files it produces are...not 4 times as good as the GFX 100s even if the price is. Both cameras give similarly great results. Now with used prices on the GFX 100s hitting $3200 it's tough to justify spending $13,000. I've noticed that using electronic shutter, remote release, focusing very slowly, and using 2 sec shutter delay make a significant difference in sharpness tho. Any tiny vibration is visible otherwise. Taking these precautions I'm now getting back some 30" x 40" and even a 53"s (and bigger w stitching) prints that are sharper than anything I've ever gotten from digital or analog previously.

To be fair $13000 includes lens and grip. If you’re comparing body only then the hasselblad is $6800

@@WillemVerb ok fair point. it's twice the price, not 4. I recently was able to get a used 100s AND 45mm lens in like new cond for $4500. So in the end the money part of the equation is very significant. I suppose if someone really wants their camera to look a certain way tho, then they are in a market segment where the extra money is not a huge deal to them. I also bet some clients really do notice if the camera itself looks cool, so it might end up paying for itself there.
@ZeLoShady
@ZeLoShady 10 ай бұрын
The price point on these 100MP cameras is not looks, it's the manufacturing cost of the sensors. The manufacturing process for them is similar to that of a computer chip and the larger you go, the higher the failure rate meaning you waste a ton more money making ones that actually work properly. That's one of the main reasons companies like AMD, Intel and NVIDIA are moving to 'chiplet' designs for their processors. It allows them to make smaller parts that have a lower failure rate and then assemble those parts into one working computer chip that has higher performance & efficient than older designs. That of course can't be done (or at least hasn't been figured out yet) with camera sensors but if it can be done, we will see these high MP cameras drop in price as the cost of production lowers. Right now though, it literally costs thousands of dollars for Fuji, HB & PHS1 to make these sensors before factoring in the rest of the electronics, assemble, design, packaging, employee pay, factory bills and everything else that goes into these cameras. There is certainly a cost people pay for 'Hasselblad' but they aren't just adding 5k to the price because it's them. They are also a smaller company with less sales than Fuji so they can't place as many orders for the sensors and with most manufacturing related products, the more you buy the more you save.
@Eliguitar1
@Eliguitar1 10 ай бұрын
@@ZeLoShady there's no doubt that you pay extra for the hasselblad name, chip aside. They are mechanically wonderful machines and look it. That costs money to put together. I think any visual difference between RAW files from this HB and a 100s does not explain the price difference. The physical design of the HB and the brand cache explain most of it imo, and as you mention economies of scale on the production side, since HB is a smaller operation.
@ZeLoShady
@ZeLoShady 10 ай бұрын
@@Eliguitar1 I am definitely not denying there is a brand tax here but my point was that isn't the main factor of why it costs so much. There would be more of a price tax because of the manufacturing process (sensor, volume, assembly) than the brand tax. I think the mechanical wonderfulness would also contribute more to the cost than the brand tax as getting the "feel" perfect costs more in engineering and manufacturing/assembly than getting it to 95% good. Pretty much, I'd think there is a 5-15% brand tax but 30-50% manufacturing tax if that makes sense. They also made it compatible with their older cameras and I am not sure if that is true with older digital HB bodies so they can charge extra for that feature. Willem said in the video it retains autofocus when doing that too and if that is true, it's a huge boost to the value of the product. I don't see how that would work though since the old film cameras don't have electronic contacts for the lens and body to talk to each other. Maybe there is a wire you can run between them outside the cameras but then would the lenses even mount on the film body? Idk, this is just a side ramble and off track from the original conversation.

This being a professional film camera has a good hdr processing which means the computing capacity of the software in this camera is very capable. Most pro cameras or dslr dont process the hdr unless you shoot in raw and combine multiple images to get the proper exposure of bright and dark areas at the same time. This also has a unique signature style in the images it takes. OnePlus phones also seem to have this but doesn't work well on phone cameras as it does with this professional camera. The yellowish hue is present and it seems to be it's signature style.

the shots are insane. if i had the money to blow i would be running to the store right now. an absolute beast of a camera. i don't think i know a modern age photographer who can quite capture and also articulate the importance of light in all different condition as well as you. you've been inspiring me for so many years, right from my final folio at university to the work i produce now, so thank you for that.

Every single one of these photos can be done on a regular camera. There'd literally be no discernable difference. We are far past the point of "I need X camera for Y look" and into an era where post production editing is the limiting factor. Idk why people fan boy for Hassbleblad so hard that they seemingly forget this.

@@CanditoTrainingHQ These guys are probably stupid or are living under the rock. What's great about these photos? People now a days take same or better pictures with their Iphones and sony experia etc

Hasselblad has an amazing colour science team that works on setting their colours a certain way. So although it's a Sony sensor, the colours it "produces" are quite unique different.
