Ngl I'm getting a bit of Owensri2 vibes from this video as he used to have a WABCO Triangle gate mech in his backyard setup. Would be totally epic if you added a Stop on Red Signal sign along with finding a pair of GRS LEX C 8 inch lights, and maybe change the bell sequence to have the GS only ring while the gate is lowering, and it would totally be a near replica for sure.

Put a Gateless signal to the left of the gated signal with a hybrid bell would definitely bring those vibes.

Awesome! I would love to go see that! Though, the gate might need a little adjustment. It comes down too fast, and it goes up a lot slower. Also the gate rocks as well after it goes down.

Nice to see an old mechanism still working that well, would be really neat to see a Grizwalled gate mechanism, probably tough to find now

I don’t go after rare stuff as parts are a pain to find once parts do wear out. I prefer the modern/new equipment. This is definitely the oldest gate mechanism I will ever have.

Awesome video that gate went down pretty quick that's asking for a bump in the head lol

Here before long a fence will be built around this signal so nobody should be getting that close to it. I am in the middle of fixing the minor issues such as the gate bouncing too much and the battery overheating which is why the gate picks up so slow. It’s definitely still a work in progress but all the minor problems will be fixed.

I assume the plan is to repair the mini bell and put it back up? Other than that, that's a beautiful setup
@RailroadSignsandSignals2 күн бұрын
The bell that is up there is staying up there. It will probably be months before anything gets repaired as there is a lot more important work starting soon with a few more crossing signal installs.

Interesting to see this working. Is the bell dying?
@RailroadSignsandSignals3 күн бұрын
Yes and replaced the day the signal was first tested. I tried everything I could to get it to run faster and properly but nothing helped. I had no choice but to replace it with a bell I had on hand.
@SignalMan92923 күн бұрын
@ ah. I assume the coils need work or something. That bell is incredibly rare and is not throw away thing.
@RailroadSignsandSignals3 күн бұрын
The contact on it is bad. I tried filing down the oxidized layer but nothing seemed to help. Possibly readjusting the hammer would have helped but who knows now.
@SignalMan92923 күн бұрын
@ I wonder if making a new old stock contact will work.
@RailroadSignsandSignals3 күн бұрын
We do have a NOS fully complete standby bell replacement chassis with the contact, hammer, coils and the moving parts for that type of bell which is why it was chosen for this crossing but that bell will likely not be going back on that signal now that it has been replaced. The bell was returned to the parts warehouse to either be fixed with parts on hand and reused on another crossing install or removed from the parts list altogether.

That Wabco Gate Mech needs adjusting, as after it’s all the way down, it bounces a little & causes the Bell to briefly ring again, plus when it rises, it rises way too slow. For the dropping part, the snub needs to be adjusted, while for the rising part, it needs to rise faster.
@videolover20142 күн бұрын
Also, if you were able to get for some Bells, I think that for the Main Railroad Crossing with the 3 Gates, you should get & put these Bells on: Safetran Type 3/Invensys Rail/Siemens (High-pitched), GS Type 1, GS Type 3
@RailroadSignsandSignals2 күн бұрын
To prevent the bouncing the counterweight can be moved towards the mechanism to increase the weight as well as the bumper sensitivity can be adjusted on this mechanism. The rising too slow is due to the battery being at a lower voltage. Had it charging for a few hours and came back to the sulfuric acid boiling so I had to turn the voltage down on it which is causing the gate hold clear to engage slower and pick up and drop out more abruptly. I am in the middle of finding a fix for the battery issue but everything else is super easy to adjust and change. This video was of this crossing activating for the first few times and this project is by no means complete yet.

I cannot fulfill your request for the bells as I only get National Electric Gate equipment or General Signals, sometimes RECO. Not much of a bell collector however I do understand of the significance it has for some.

@@RailroadSignsandSignals So, the Bells that you get are more automatic, as in as they give you what they have or what they can find, etc.?
@RailroadSignsandSignals2 күн бұрын
I don’t go after old equipment, especially if maintenance parts are not available anymore. The newer and more common equipment is what I am usually looking for as it is much easier to obtain and maintain than the rare or less common stuff. I get what is usually thrown out or what is found on eBay so my options are more limited.

That first bell sounds like its dying but you replaced it with a gs type 2 you could just probably replace it with a another mechanical bell
@RailroadSignsandSignals3 күн бұрын
All I had was an electronic bell on my vehicle for general maintenance so that is what I had to use to replace the existing one. Due to this being a fully restored install I put up a used E bell and spray painted it to match the look of the signal. Restoring M bells are a pain and take a lot more time that I don’t currently have.

Most people are not really into the old bells that signals once had and 99% of the people that go here just want to interact with the signal with no care to what it is comprised of, just that it works like it should and looks great. The MBU I originally had on this crossing unfortunately did not work so I had to use the DBU I usually carry for maintenance. There is several more crossing installs I have yet to show on this channel that all have MBU’s on them so this is not the last install to have them.
