Testing a Properly Operating Vacuum Pump

00239 Vacuum Pump Test - Here's a test of a good working vacuum pump. This is a good benchmark test, showing that when a vacuum pump works well, it is capable of reaching down into a very deep vacuum. As shown in this video, this particular pump is capable of reaching 35 microns, which in the Philadelphia area, is about as low as you could possibly go. That cps vacuum pump is acceptale but aint that good. My cps gets down to 19 micron, is it long time since oil change?

I was told a " good" pump should go down to 20 mics, if above that it is worn & could fail soon. Is that true?

I have the same micron gauge and the same setup but I can't get it to read any vacuum. But if I put a valve in between and I valve off the micron gauge while pump is running it will start to read vacuum. The vacuum reading will settle to 400 microns. With the vacuum pump running, if I now open the valve the micron gauge will show it loses its vacuum. Can you explain this effect? Thanks.

So on my Harbor fright vac pump states down to .22 microns, is that a good pull for stabilizing pen blanks ??

My guess is you meant 22 microns, that's a decent vacuum outside of a very expensive laboratory type system.

I'm looking at buying a used vacuum pump. I have a manifold, can that be used to test the vacuum pump? As I don't have a digital micron gauge. Also what would a car A/C system need to get down to?
