Check the other side of the connector for voltage. Turn key on and check the voltage on all four. Should be consistent. Either 12 volts or approximately 5 volts. If one of these is zero then you have a broken wire.. then to the next step which is continuity tests....

My friend and I worked on the rack & pinion bushings only on my RAV4 2004.After we put everything back that ABS acted up.Inspected the sensors but not like the way NATHAN do it.just a simple inspection on that sensor that connects to the wheel..we are about to do it the same process his video was showing,but suddenly my friend goes...TRY DOING A "HARD RESET"(disconnecting battery terminal for a while)AND IT WORKS!!!its been 4 days were thinking what happen. GOOD TIPS BY THE WAY NATHAN

I believe this resistance test ONLY works if ABS system is a PASSIVE one vs ACTIVE one.
@rockroll95136 жыл бұрын
Just checking for resistance is not a complete test for the sensor; Keep probes on sensor. Turn multi-meter to AC then spin hub. Check the spec.
@FixingWithPassion6 жыл бұрын
But it works this way also. There are several ways to do this. This is just quick and dirty.
@russaification4 жыл бұрын
@@FixingWithPassion Rock and Roll is correct. For a full test that the sensor is actually working you must spin the tier while the probes are connected. Switch the meter to volts and turn the tire, you should see a voltage on the meter while turning the tire. If you don't see a voltage the sensor is toast, just because you see resistance doesn't mean the sensor is good.
@jamesbarratt5935 жыл бұрын
you can't resistance test both types of sensor, passive and active. You can only resistance test the type which when key on has 12v going down one side. Other side ground. You need to use a scope for the other type.

Also the sensor will get raised up too far from the chopper wheel, the wheel with the teeth by rust building up under its seat. Then it can't read the magnetic changes and thinks it's broken.

You should also check at the plugs to be sure they are getting voltage from abs system..

Also add some knock air to the bleed system for better pressure apply. Everyone forgets that.

So do you connect the multimeter to the cable that goes to the sensor in the wheel or connect it to the cable that goes back to control module or whatever it's called?

The OBD code readers that do not cover the ABS units are the cheap ones, or cheap apps that connect your phone to a 2 dollar bluetooth OBD2 dongle. Save yourself the hassle and buy a decent OBD2 reader.
@DR19X2 жыл бұрын
you are right. even the reader at parts stores could not read abs

I have a 2001 Ford Taurus and the check engine light has been on for about 4 years the car runs perfect! Except for a idle it misfire so bad that actually it will cut off. I didn't have this issue before it just started about 2 weeks ago. I hooked it up to a scanner a couple years back it said it needed a new EGR valve and I replace it didn't do anything and now the gas cap light is on I check the gas cap it's fine so what could this be? There is a hose missing on the intake but I doubt this would be causing all these issues. Keep in mind it has 185,000 miles
@davedeatherage49026 жыл бұрын
Jacob Moon Jacob I had a 2003 Ford Taurus see. And I had same misfire stuff, it turned out to be a bad vacuum hose on left side Plenum going down to intake, try examining that, if bad should be an air hiss coming from hose. I replaced that horny car ran great again, could brother things too, hope this helps you!

The factory service manual should have that resistance value. Its a 4 volume set for @ $130 from rock auto. I have them for my 2001. Lets see if I can find it for you...

Frank White I check Craigslist in Florida (Tampa) weekly. Prices on rust free cars are considerably less expensive than here in (rust belt) Virginia.

Nathan, are you disconnecting the battery? Guess I still don't understand what you're measuring with the meter. Maybe looking for broken wires?
@grassroot0115 жыл бұрын
He's reading the resistance on the coil in the sensor. the Ohms meter provides a voltage/current to prove it has continuity or a path for current to flow. If it's open, no current flow and no Ohms reading.
