Testing Ballistas Against Every Boss In Valheim

I know the devs intended them for pvp but I hope they do eventually get a friendly fire patch, or atleast be tied to turning on and off pvp on your server

The queen is the only fight with legit raid mechanics. She moves around the different levels throught the whole fight Also, nice bleach music.

It also seems like the queen is the only boss meant specifically for co op, because I’m not really sure how someone could solo her easily, and nice catch on the music lol

@@mannythemage Magic helps to freeze / slow the mobs and you should dodge roll her attacks. Using AoE weapons to deal with the mobs she spawns as well (if you are high enough in sword skill you can kill the seekers with krom / the mistblade in one combo or less). The active ability of Bonemass also helps a lot and of course bring some potions. But was a really tough fight, especially since the first time you fight her you do not summon her and do not know her patterns yet. She is already inside and the fight with all the mist begins almost right away. Fought her with 2 friends and had thankfully already found out how op the staff of protection is. Even if your shield is popped instantly it nullifies any damage done above the shield value. So it is a free out of jail once every cast use. Took a few minutes to learn her patterns, but thankfully I had learned from bonemass that sometimes you just cannot parry an enemy / parry and block just does not help much. Of course, a shield is still helpful to survive an attack that you did not manage to dodge due to lack of stamina. And if you are not using magic, bring your 2 best health foods and maybe a secondary weapon. My frosthammer got down to 10% durability. Then again, she had 60% more health due to us being 3 people.

@@mannythemage Recently I soloed her, no magic, it did take 2 Bonemass buffs (1st activated at the start), about 4 major health and 8 medium stamina meads were downed (no lingering stamina meads since they can't be used together with stamina meads), I started with the sword and shield combo but at about 65% of her HP I perma-switched to the atgeir because dodging rather than parrying allows you follow up with attacks faster (successful parries will still knockback you back a lot), bring the double-handed hammer for broodling waveclear

15 balistas for bonemass isn't so bad considering his resistance to piercing damage. If not for that, I bet half would be enough as he's also big and slow and easy to hit

he is a rather large target with very slow movement, so less could probably do the trick

@@mannythemage Haven't gotten to that stage yet, but if they don't already have them and add ice bolts, that would hurt him significantly more than any regular one will with pierce resistance.

Ballistas are very weird with their friendly fire. I have no idea what they're supposed to be used for. If you set them up on walls and towers around the only entrance to a cool castle for PvP, then you'll have to go disarm them every time you want to leave… and the cooler setup with spread out towers you have, the more annoying it'll be. They really need a friendly fire off setting to be used for PvE, clan/faction system to be useful for PvP, or change them to be mounted and manually fired by a player because automated turrets don't really fit in with the viking setting anyway. I'm guessing devs will have to change them one of those ways no matter what. Since now no one's using them and it's just a wasted mechanic.

If you set up like 8 ballista against elder, it's a good way to farm keys for lighting

Farming is the main potential I see for ballistas, like setting them up next to a greydwarf spawners

i dont actually cheat to play valheim, i even farm all my mats... but the only "kinda" cheat i use is summoning the flaming cheat sword and i hang them throughout the base for light bec on a friends server that won't use mods... and the servers always running.. i wasn't going to spend the first hour of playing with my friends to make coal and run around relighting torches and such

Fire damage with campfires, braziers, or bonfires is way cheaper and more consistent anyway. Also poison damage from pufferfish and poison/lightning damage from eitr are completely free. You can also summon skeleton archers in a protected spot to do exactly the same ranged damage farming for free, while also training your blood magic skill. So setting up ballistas for farming is redundant and pretty much roundabout way of doing this. Maybe they could be useful for automated PvP naval defense if they're decent at sinking ships from the shore? This is the only reasonable way of using them I can think of.

I did use magic, but I had to go back to repair my flame staff, it almost broke, yet the queen still have 1/3 of her health, I think it's because she spawn so much little bugs

The weapon I've been using most is the Himmin Afl atgeir. It does so much damage and stagger and my skill level is only at 24

@@tyburkulosis8799 I like that the skeletons stay forever, so they keep killing trashmobs while I'm out building something. But I don'T like the basecost of summoning and for any 'decent' leveling you really need to camp a greydwarf spawner.

@@KonaFanatiker lol yeah it made me finally decide to make a greydwarf spawner farm. I think the base eitr cost should be reduced to at most 85. I dont like the idea of having to eat 2 foods just to use it. I also think the dead raiser should just be an offhand. Move summon to right click cuz who blocks with a skull anyway lol let me wield a sword with it.

I never really understood the pvp in this game since everyone shares the exact same starting area and the resources can get grossly limited depending on how many plays. Then there's the fact that you can bring in materials from outside of the seed, so pvp will be really unbalanced. This game is better off being a cooperative one.

@@mannythemage Game isn't even designed to center around pvp. I could just make a cheat world and spawn a 10k damage sword and bring that in or cheat my character to max, or have client specific mods. Worlds have a limit of 10 as well so if you want more you'd have to mod which the game doesn't officially support so if there ever was any hardcore pvp play they could just zerg the server with alts capping the limit break everyone elses base then spawn camp the centre by placing hundreds of ballistas.

for PVP Base Defenses I suppose, but as you said if you cannot make it recognize friendlies, then it sucks a lot.

@@mannythemage I have not seen any Lox with stars so far and based on the wiki they do not have star spawns yet in the game. So unless the Wiki is outdated, they do not spawn naturally.

In devcommands you would type either “spawn lox 1 2” or “spawn lox 1 3” I forget which one It basically means you’re spawning 1, 2 Star Lox
