Great review from someone who truly understands motorcycling in its fine detail. The GS has been refined and developed over many years,making it one of the most well rounded motorcycles ever built. I actually bought one this year without ever having taken a ride on one after listening to all the hype from friends and vloggers. I was not disappointed, probably the best riding bike i ever had. Despite its mass, it handles so well ,is extremely comfortable and inspires confidence . And that torque! Thank you for putting into words and thought what I was feeling. 🏍🔥💓

I bought my R1250GS rally 1 month ago, and i am in love. I am impressed how tight she can turn, and how much confidence she inspires in me. She is just a awsome bike. Ps i heard from the dealer that his gs had a problem with a rear differencial at 80.000 km it needed replacement...
@VToldsMotoShow
@VToldsMotoShow 2 жыл бұрын
80.000 kms is a lot, so I wouldn't really bother. I haven't heard of such an issue but even a soccer ball can break. It's just a question of how often certain things break. If you're really curious, ask that dealer-dude for all details, including sources and service data. Now in fact if a dealer knows that there's a faulty part, they should let the manufacturer (BMW) know so that they can further investigate and recall the bikes to replace faulty parts. I don't think it's the case, so again - a weird talk at a dealership.

Spent a week deciding on my choice. Rode the multi, KTM, Africa twin, XR, and the 1250 RT. After I rode the GS the choice was easy. The bike just is a pleasure to ride! It’s chunky when stopped but maneuvers easily in traffic. The power is everywhere, I don’t change gears a ton and rarely when passing. The tech is there, everything is at your fingertips. The bike truly doesn’t get old to ride… The GS allows you to say yes to any group ride and explore areas where others can dream of. It performs on street, in the dirt and even in the mud. It truly is a magnificent bike and I am thrilled with my choice. My previous bikes are FJR, ninja 1000 touring and concours 14. Great review and great points. My only complaint is 26000 out the door price tag (27000+ with the vario cases) .. Totally worth it !

I have owned 3 GS's. 2002, 2006 and now the 2021 Bumblebee. Loved the 2002, hated the 2006 which soured me on GS's. I decided to test ride the 2021 and was pleasantly surprised. The 2021 is an excellent machine, very fast, amazing torque, handles as well as my SDGT but is way more comfortable and better tech. I am truly amazed at the torque of this bike and it turned me back into a fan. I have had the KTM 1290 SA and loved it and would get another any day. I don't, however, think the BMW and the KTM are comparable. If you want a true dual sport the KTM is the best hands down and is great on road as well. The BMW is better for on road and would be my choice if the pavement is 80% of the riding. I suppose the GS will be fine on fire roads etc. But the KTM can be pushed in true off-road settings. For my needs I have a Husky 701 for off roading and find that the GS is a perfect street bike. Anyone who pulls the trigger on this new GS will not regret it and will probably keep the bike for a 100,000 miles.

When will BMW be announcing the 2022 1300 GS line up?
@VToldsMotoShow
@VToldsMotoShow 2 жыл бұрын
Technically it would make sense to happen in 2022 but according to rumours in regard to what names BMW registered for 2022, the GS remains as it is. This is an indication that they may keep the current 1250 for at least one more year. My non-scientific guess would be that they may show the bike in the late 2022 and start taking orders in the early 2023. It is time to refresh the design after 8-9 years already.

I spent some time with R1200RS and felt a bit weird. It feels like a sports bike when you sit on it, but when you try to ride it quickly in traffic, it gives an impression of being an adventure bike or a chopper because of its boxer engine with rather short gears. To me that's a strange combination but hell, it's a nice bike to ride in general and definitely very unique. I'd stay with a GS myself though as I appreciate its position and handling.

@VToldsMotoShow

The rumours claim that it may not even appear in 2022 but 2023 at earliest. Manufacturers register specific names for their vehicles and I've heard that BMW has not introduced a new name for a GS for 2022, so it would be appropriate to guess that perhaps next fall they may show it fully and start taking orders at the beginning of 2023. Seems late - 10 years after the current design was first shown. On the other hand, no one can guarantee that it won't happen even later than this. But I think it makes sense for late 2022/early 2023. Especially with the new Multistrada V4 being already here an taking sales from BMW.

Dear friend, I’ve been at Ducati’s premises and I enjoyed to meet and to get the feeling of the new Diavel, it’s a very defying naked bike, a mix between a muscle Bike , a cruiser and a Street fighter, very well succeed, but the reason of my visit to Ducati’s was to test the Multistrada V4 and I did it…I will not comment on my impressions related to this bike as I have nothing to say of special. Today I’ve been at my BMW Dealer to adjust the chain of my S 1000 XR and I went quite in a close touch with the GSA Rally version and that was a contact that went fast from warm to hot enthusiasm!😅 I don’t care if I have the best wind protection of the market on my 1250 RT, but I would be sad and cold if I were to lose the adaptive cruise control, feature that pleases me a lot on my longer journeys. So, I held my horses refrained tight. After all, we will have a complete newer big GS on next year…I Have to ponder everything calmly 😉✌️✌️

In the sentence before the last one, there's exactly what I was going to get ready to recommend - just to wait for a new big GS as likely it'll be packed with lots of features that some BMW bikes have but the current generation of the GS doesn't. Like the adaptive cruise control. There's a feeling that the announcement may happen pretty soon around the last 2-3 months of the year. Motorcycle brands like to choose that time for the new launches! ;)

@@VToldsMotoShow yea, I already know that the new model will bring along a lot of novelty and goodies that will turn it into a even better bike, I’m confident about that. The first question that I formulate is:- At what final cost? 🥶 The actual bike is a relatively safe choice. And the second question is the following:- Considering that BMW will launch a new S 1000 XR pack M, which one if I’m bound to do an alternative choice, will be the right acquisition, knowing that I’m keeping the RT?…🤔

So then, for strictly road use, would you personally pick the new V-Strom 1050XT or the R1250GS?
@VToldsMotoShow
@VToldsMotoShow 2 жыл бұрын
Oh, 8 out of 10 times, I'd pick R1250GS. The 2 situations when I'd pick the V-Strom would be when I'd be getting a motorcycle to listen to its engine sound, and when I'd have to pay for service/parts. As funny as this may sound, it's actually a pretty serious statement. V-Strom is a correct motorcycle but the GS is better at almost everything (exclude engine/exhaust sound and maintenance costs).

I have an s1000xr. But it’s not that comfortable for the wife. Thinking about the GS. I’m just worried about losing the fun factor the XR has….. I’ve only ever tried an older oil head GS, and it was boring.

It will depend as if you'd be expecting straight line performance, then perhaps coming off of an S1000XR, a GS would not be very exciting. Now if you'd manage to feel the excitement in its agility and light feeling in everyday riding, cornering and manoeuvring, then it may be much, much more fun. It also pulls significantly better while in higher gears thanks to its torque that's higher than XR's.

Seeing people in rough terrain getting assistance from people, pushing and pulling the bike, makes me think the GS isn’t suitable for extreme off-road riding. Which is a shame. I think it’s weight (but even a Yamaha Tenere is heavy but not as wide) and the cylinders sticking out the side would make traveling up steep and over rocky terrain every difficult and dangerous. Am I wrong?
@VToldsMotoShow
@VToldsMotoShow 2 жыл бұрын
I agree - but all big adventure enduros are exactly the same in this area. Some feel heavier and less encouraging though and I believe that this is the case. Their weight in kgs or lbs is roughly the same but some like a Harley-Davidson Pan America I'd never want to take off the road while some like this R1250GS or KTM 1290 Super Adventure, I'd be tempted to play with. Then once in trouble, there's a much bigger issue as you pointed out.

Hey, nobody knows if it's going to be a change for the better. In fact, it's unknown when that may even happen. It just should due to the period of the design not being changed pretty much at all. I wouldn't worry that much. These bikes keep their value like crazy and keeping one for 2-3 years is still quite fine value-wise.

Don’t dismiss the Africa Twin so easily. Less power but so much more character and fun, slimmer and more nimble. But just as capable.
@VToldsMotoShow
@VToldsMotoShow 2 жыл бұрын
But I do like that extra power. Cannot say much about balancing and handling but my guess would be that if other likely top motorcycles in the category cannot match the big GS in terms of ease of riding, brakes and torque, AT will not either. I think that perhaps it would make more sense to match it against BMW F850GS.

Panamerica is possibly the "world's ugliest thing" is an understatement - Let's face it if they're targeting the HD crowd they've missed the mark forgetting the fact that this crowd don't like to get off the straight asphalt, plus they just about alienated every other adventure riders, once the novelty wears off. Just another bad byproduct of "design by committee"

@@dseagull3567 The overpriced Beemer is consistently at the bottom of the reliability charts. The old ones were good. The new overly complex ones with its ever increasing weight spaceships. Repairs and maintenance are expensive. At the local Beemer,ducati,triumph dealer, a mechanic and a salesman quietly admitted the Beemer was the least reliable. Far more of them showed up for warranty work. The Harley has 2 advantages Beemer and Ducati can never match. An actual dealer network and no valve adjustments. Time will tell.

I've watched a good number of your vids & you continually seem to harp on about the sound of the bikes. Although I do understand what you're getting at, I think you should consider the majority of the situations that most of the owners of these bikes will find themselves. Personally, the last thing I want is a loud, bass note which does nothing more than piss off my neighbours & every one I ride past within many kilometers. I get what you're saying but, most of the people who buy these bikes are city based &the lower the noise levels the better. It matters not from which position one looks at this subject, more noise from bikes simply equates to more hate &, all for a simple, childish preference.

In my experience, a good exhaust may sometimes be the only successful way of keeping drivers around aware in the city. Outside the city it doesn't matter much indeed. Then there are dB-killers for such riding. In the city it's a brutal fight for survival and although statistically it's not terrible, I've seen enough aftermaths of motorcycle crashes to not give a crap about those that may not enjoy a louder exhaust. I myself don't enjoy it... when it's attached to a 4-cylinder engine.

Too heavy, too expensive, too complicated, too hiped. Used to ride an old 1150GS, fantastic bike, drove it over 100000km / 61000mi in 6 years. Loved every mile on it, on every conceivable surface. The new GS bikes have only become more in the direction of spaceships, switchable ABS is enough for me, anti-spin, different driving modes, on me they sit in my head. No, it was not a new GS I bought, but I stay out of the evil empire, I bought an Italian!
