Testing Burek in Niš, Serbia: What is Burek?

What is "Burek?" you may ask. Consider that question ANSWERED.
Baked in pork grease, this crunchy, circular Balkan staple pushes the limits of my vegetarianism and keeps me full for hours as I trundle through the city center streets of Niš during my Fulbright.
We tested 3 bakeries in Niš to try to find the best burek in the city.

Burek is made up in Serbia - in the city of Niš, in the end of 15 century (round in shape). And it's prepare for Serbian nation, not albanian. WTF are you talking ?! It's a Serbian product.

Gibanica je srpska a prvi burek je pravljen u Nisu 1496 cini mi se, pravio ga turcin, albanaci su nastali nekih malo vise od 400 godina kasnije! Turski burek je kao nasa pita a za ovaj okrugli stvarno me znam!!!

To be quite fair, I am a serbian but I lived next to albanian bakery twice - once during studies, and during my childhood. Albanians are hella good bakers. Just because of our history with them does not mean we shouldn't give credit where credit is due. The mastery of burek craft is not limited to serbian gene pool only, anyone can learn the craft. And this blatant intolerance and racism is exactly why people don't like us. Also they never said that burek is albanian product, just that owner of the bakery is an albanian.

Pizza burek is an atrocity. Just....avoid. Spicy meat wins no matter what, it's just not easy to find.

Burek is from the Albanian. In albanian pite Its not serbish not Turkish
