Hi, thank you for this great video. Just one thing - you should measure ESR at 100 kHz.

Electrolytic power caps should be tested at 120 seeing we're on 60hz in the US. They DEF shouldn't be tested above that, you'll definitely get false readings!

Great video! I would have liked to see you test the caps with the DE-5000 at the same frequency as the other testers to see how they compare at the same frequency.

Electrolytic caps are *not* precise components. Last time I checked, the normal capacitance tolerance was -20 to +50%. Looking at every last uF and every last milliohm of ESR is pretty pointless.

You mentioned as long as the magic eye on the Eico 950 opens up the capacitor is not leaking up to 2 milliamps. Can you explain why the eye opens partially for some capacitors and fully for others? Is there any significance in the opening position relative to the capacitor's health etc.

Another proof that no two meters read the same. It's all relative ! However, if all the meters used the same frequency the results would be different as well. In regard to capacitors

Wrong frequency for ESR testing on the DE-5000

I agree; great video. My main interest was the DE-5000 which I am learning to use. Any videos on it?

Two things... Don't use probes with the ATmega tester, throw the cap right in the ZIF socket, you'll get bad ESR readings with probes. Another thing, why not use 100KHz to test ESR?

Even if you used 5 meters of the same make ,the readings would still be different. If the meters had calibration certification, then they would have been closer I suppose.

The DE - 5000 is what I just purchased I’m new to electronics and understanding some of the functions and how to exactly use to test some of the features on this unit are still not quite clear yet. All the other features on the DE - 5000 if you can make a video specifically on that unit going over testing different components and its features and how they apply to repairing or making from scratch amplifiers and radio repair.
