The two big problems I still have are water-resistance (it's only IP54 which isn't enough for use in the rain) and security, there's nothing to stop somebody pressing the button, disconnecting the adapter and walking off with it whilst you're using the restroom or eating. But it's certainly technologically very impressive that they've managed to build this into such a tight package. I was worried at first about then only using a single contactor for the positive line, and the negative just passes through from the charger to the vehicle, but on reflection it's fine and not much bother considering the DC circuit only needs to be connected/broken in a single place.

It's frustrating that installers put the Chademo Charger in the first bay. That means that a CCS user goes to the first bay and makes the only Chademo connector unusable. They probably think they are doing us a favour but it's the opposite. They should put Chademo at the far end of the Bays, so it's more likely to be available.

1000 GBP for that CCS2 to Chademo adapter is quite a lot of money. If I'd bought a 62kwh Leaf it would make sense but my 24kWh with 113k miles is only worth 2 or 3 of those adapters.

Mine is only worth the price of the adapter. I wish Nissan would have made one . My city has plenty chademo units to use but some of the new units are only ccs and I could use them if we had a ccs1 adapter.

i think it is worth it, as chademo is already phased out in germany. new stations have 10 CCS statuins an 0 or 1 chademo. basically rendering your car useless.

Niceee, time to test it on the Leaf! I'm planning to buy one since here in Indonesia most chargers here are CCS2 for the DC chargers. Though the government mandated that every public DC chargers must have AC charger beside it, but then again I could use it for emergency.

I can't wait for them to get the CCS1 support working. From what I've seen it only works on very few units until the firmware is sorted. Agreed on micro usb. Your Soul key doesn't have the annoying alarm button that goes off in your pocket. 😅

In Australia we have many Tritium chargers that are often out of order, some operators are already replacing them with Kempower which work like a dream in comparison

Those Fiskers probably piled up because of various problems they had with getting the software ready for customers. This car seems to have been pain in the a.. for Magna who developed and produces (or rather: produced) it.

My worry about the CHAdeMO adapter is, the list of tested CCS2 chargers is pretty small; I'd worry about turning up to a site with no Chad chargers and finding the adapter wouldn't work with whatever charger brands were on site. If you take a minimum of 2 chargers as "safe", there are 60+ mile stretches of major roads in the UK, with no safe CHAdeMO stops along them; without going waaaay off route. M4 corridor to Gatwick, Reading is the last place with more than a single charger - leaving 63 miles to the chargers at the airport. The one and only time I counted on a single charger - it was being blocked by a 2011 Leaf driver insisting on 100%, even though at 90% it was already down to 2KW.

In Amerika we need an SAE J3400 (NACS) to Chademo adapter, because CCS1 is abandoned. When do we get one?

​@@theproffessional9 If you have money for the Kia E Soul and adapter for 1400€. Then you should instead buy a Ioniq 28 kWh. Then you don't need the adapter. You saved 1400€ and give this into the buy of nice IONIQ 28 kWh, huh? So at least in Germany you could do that. Here the prices for E-Soul and IONIQ 28 are not so far apart.

I just got mine a few days ago but haven’t had a chance to test it yet. I didn’t get it from the EU reseller though, from one of the the Chinese companies (looks exactly the same though - it’s the one that Dala EV got on alibaba)

I agree. It is too bad quick charge power from California couldn’t make one. They are doing mostly battery replacement now. I got a 30 or 40 amp extension cord from them to charge on level 2 9 years ago for my leaf . Bjorn is the best. And so funny. Even if he dislikes something he doesn’t make it sound like whining like Kyle Connor or Tom maloughney

Yes, Leaf Plus/e+ can do 100kW. However to get that full 100kW requires a CHAdeMO station that both supports CHAdeMO 1.2 protocol AND has a 250A connector, both of which are extremely rare outside of Japan. The adapter likely doesn't fulfill both requirements, but should still be able to do the ~75kW that they usually get on a 200A CHAdeMO.

AFAIK, no. You don't want theft protection. What happens if the communication breaks down and you can't release the adapter from the charger?

@@marcg1686as opposed to a normal CHAdeMO connector which locks to the car via a mechanism that's in the plug (charger side)? They are N/O normally open solenoids, if there is no power, they will default to unlocked position.

I'm not sure if the limits are cable restricted. Most charges follow CHAdeMO v1.0 standard. This allows for charging at up to 62.5 kW. The maximum voltage is 500V, and the maximum current is 125A. v2.0 license is more expensive? CHAdeMO 2.0H, allows for charging at up to 400 kW. The maximum voltage is 1000V, and the maximum current is 400A. I know v2.0 is popular in Japan but didn't Europe settle on 1.0?

There are no EVs in European market with more than 400 V. And the plugs here are mostly 125 A with a few 200 A plugs (e-on).

@@bjornnyland There are also some hyperchargers which have a black CHAdeMO connector and according to the name plate it is rated for 150A. I don't have access to a CHAdeMO car so I don't know if it delivers up to 60kW for 400V.

No. HiPhi Z doesn't use CHAdeMO plug. It uses GB/T.
